  • Thank you for these reviews...I am a multi-racial mother of 2 adorable multi-racial children and I am I am very protective of the images they get and plan on raising them as strong people proud of who they are and all of where they come from...I dislike reading to them from books that solely have non-ethnic characters....this is a great resource!

  • This is excellent sis. Maybe you can start something for the mommies? :D I want to start reading again like I used to but I don't know about any good books with substance. I want my kids to love reading the way I did as a child but to do that, I have to be an example. :)

  • @naturalesque81tv I hear you! We do have to lead by example. Don't be discouraged--reading picture books to them is still an excellent place to start. What kind of books do you like to read? I'm always reading something--what with schooling and all--but it's not usually for leisure.

  • @CherishMyDaughter I don't know. Recommend something. LOL! I'm serious. It's been a long time since I picked up a book other than the Bible.

  • @naturalesque81tv You can't go wrong there. Truth be told I've been longing for the same thing as I work so hard to give my daughters. I've enjoyed books by Francine Rivers and Ted Dekker for example, but I'd love to read a clean story--with depth--about a black woman like myself. I've read plenty without any substance.

  • @CherishMyDaughter I'd LOVE to find a book like you described too. I have books in my closet that I got from Black Expressions a long time ago (when I didn't respond to my email lol). I'll take a look through those, but they usually sold smut. :( I'm never joining another book club unless I find a good one that actually sell good books.

  • @naturalesque81tv I've done smut. It was suicide to my spirit. There's mountains of smut out there.

  • That is so wonderful my kids love books...

  • @antionette35 Keep that interest burning in them--you won't be sorry! Read that story "one more time" even if you feel like it's killing you sometimes.

  • This was awesome! Thanks for the book list.

  • @sassiemommy Your welcome--let me know what you think when you read them!

  • Super! It does take more effort to find books that represent black culture and the beauty of people of color, but it's so worth it!

  • @DrDawnMarie YES!

  • A woman after my own heart!! Our girls, their self esteem and helping them build a love of self, is where my passion lies. When my girls were little I made a point of not buying Disney princess toys or DVD’s. I just lifted the ban when they added princess Tiana. I found fairytale books with princess imagery they could relate to and bought dolls that looked like them. I’ve been on a mission! LOL. I’d already started sharing the books we love on our FB channel. I think book reviews would be great!

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls I'm with you on the Disney situation. I don't think ANYONE goes to Disney to see real life images but I think the absence of something that our girls can relate to can be counterproductive. It's not terrible if you offer a balance, but most of the time there's no balance. I wish we would have done what you did because undoing it is so difficult. It's much easier to build the right image than to go back and try to undo a twisted one.

  • This is a great idea. Can't wait for the blog!

  • @future2331 I'm looking forward to writing some reviews and hearing your feedback.
