A great dialogue! A great way to bring even more appreciation to this hobby I love.
I just saw Harvey's vid where you to discussed the topic of altering the tobacco and found your channel. I have to say I prefer a great blend that stands on its own for much of the same artistic or love of craft or however the reason we appreciate the blender. I wouldn't think mixing my single malt scotch's either lol. Keep up the great vid's.
That is a wonderful analogy! The trilogy of the pipe smoking experience...as dialogue. Wow, never thought of that before. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Love your vids...for this very reason.
Great topic, Kevin. I could see people maybe taking these things for granted. There is something to be said of someone who realizes and appreciates such things.
2) pipe and tobacco combination I only have the choice of vessel(in my collection) . Mood and flavor desire, sets the "tone" of the conversation. I like this whole concept discussion. And I would also thank the string of people that have brought this hobby down to us over centuries of change and style. Thank you, gregg
1) I respect the statement that the blender is trying to make. I don't alter their blends, but after I am used to a blend I may add something for my own palate. It would be like listening to a lecture if you don't contribute something to the conversation. Aesthetics of the pipe are also so individual as to be dictated by the carver, there are very few people who can or will alter a pipe except to perhaps open the smoke channel. The exterior is pretty well set. Also I as the user end of the
I feel like I fall somewhere in the middle here. By that I mean I don't re-blend off the bat. However, after some time I may and in my opinion that is my contribution to the conversation. So I let the tobacco and a particular pipe speak and maybe even another pipe, just to test the consistency of a tobacco but after awhile I may add my own statement(s) to the conversation. Just my 2 cents. Great topic.
I do not approve of altering blends so as to make them more familiar or easier to understand. When a blend has been around for long it has earned the right to be approached for what it is. We may take pleasure in it or not; regardless, we should respect it.
I see the pipe as an intermediate, the moderator between the smoker and tobacco. A pipe should be everything the smoker finds necessary to enable that "dialogue" - be that fair priced, practical, aesthetically appealing, etc.
I might disagree in this one, although I understand the point of the statement done by the carver and the blender, is up to the pipe smoker to make or sort of decisions in order to enjoy the experience. From how to pack it, how fast to smoke it, etc. Is up to the pipe smoker to modify as his/her will anything to improve his/her experience, if that is adding or modifying the pipe or the tobacco, so be it. Like a great meal, you still want to put salt in it. Cheers, Harvey

Yes, we forget about the many people (past & present) behind the pipes & tobacco. Great video!

Excellent videos. I like the interplay or the conversation that goes on between the pipe, the smoker, and the tobacco.
