  • hey its me again haha, i recently was asking you some questions from one of ur other videos. anyways, i have a few questions about these barbs as i saw that theyre for sale in my local petsmart. 1. are odessa barbs and ticto barbs the same thing? i notice the scientific name of the odessa barb includes the word "ticto".

    2. can a school of 5 odessa barbs live in a 29 gallon tank with head and tail light tetras, upside-down catfish, betta fish, gouramis, and a bristlenose pleco?

  • Yes to all of that.

  • I have 5 Diamond Tetra, 4 Black Skirt, 4 Otocinclus and 4 Siamese Algae eaters. Do you think any sort of aggression could be appointed by the Odessa Barb to my other fish? Most barbs nip fins and such

  • Tiger barbs give other barbs a bad name as there are loads of peaceful barbs about. You are more likely to see fin nipping from black skirt and diamond tetra than from odessa barbs so I wouldn't worry.

  • @pondguru thank you so much. Now just to clear things up... How big do they get? And is there a preference between males and females?

  • They get about 6-7 cm and males are much more brightly coloured than females. There is a better video of them as a related video on the right - 'XL odessa barbs' as well as other people 's videos of them in home aquariums so they are much better coloured than in this video where they are small.

  • @XXGOLDENXXDRAGONXX most of your fish are from south america. Barbs are from the far east. They don't do well together. Stay with the many types of tetras of S.Amer.

  • Look like awesome fish, too bad they're semi-aggressive. They'd probably attack my tetras :(

  • We've had no reports of aggression with this species.Sometimes we will even have a fighter in the tank and they never get bothered.

  • there really nice!

  • Those are nice.

  • I have to say, even now, the pattern on their dorsals are quite attractive. But they are nowhere near the knockouts they are at maturity.

  • Problem is, like most of the fish in the shop, they will be sold before they get large enough to get fully coloured. I may order XL size next time.

  • You mean so you can charge more for them?

  • If we get XL in next time there is a better chance they will be fully coloured up, much larger and yes, we would charge more for them as they would cost us more. Due to their better colour they should fly out.

  • Just a thought. I think the profit margin for the adults could be greater as they already have superb colouration,

  • Probably, yes.
