DK Jr. is the DK we all know and love today. The original Donkey Kong from the 1980's was Donkey Kongs Grandpa or also know as Cranky Kong from the DK COuntry series.

I used to think Donkey Kong Jr. was Donkey Kong.

and now he is, he was DK Jr at the time because Cranky Kong was DK. Now that he is too old, DK Jr took his place to be the actual DK since Donkey Kong Country.
