That's a pretty bad tutorial, for the rest of us for whom this didn't work. Here's how to fix Error 21 if your hard reset doesn't work (aka bricked). Download Redsn0w (latest version if possible). Make sure your itunes is open and your i device is detected before proceeding with redsnow. In redsn0w select your ipsw to what you were running before bricking your i device, once done and detected. Go back and select "Recovery fix". This should reload your i device right before you bricked it.

@jcoolguy4623 all YOU need is a package on cydia called Corona!!! you dont need to reset anything if you already have tethered 5.0.1!!! just rejailberak it (tethered) and look for the package Corona on cydia, install it, viola it is now untethered

@ultimatedaywalker you still can restore it u just need to download IREB from IH8Sn0w.com. Once you get the error 1015 from ITunes(I'm assuming u do), run iReb and go to fix error code 1015 at the top tab. It will instantly kick your device out of recovery mode and your done.

I was trying to jailbreak and unlock iphone 3gs, new bootrom at 4.3.3, I updated the base band to 0.6.15 (ipad base band) something like that, now my phone never gets updated with any of the new version of firmware or anything else. It went out of the recovery mode but never updated.

@BMTH666RaWrrrr if you haven't fixed it yet already, then plug it in then wait a little while while it regain battery power, then when you turn it on or whenever you see the USB thing and the Itunes icon, then you hold down the power and home button for maybe 10 to 20 seconds.
