  • perhaps one of the slowest techniques you can use... amazing looking though

  • That's what I call , the perfect "pixel eye"

  • I love water color. Thats my medium of choice! But than again I'm just an art student who is developing his skills.

  • Is This a Canvas?I was wondering because I am Tired of Using ONLY paper.

  • It takes a certain type of personality to have the patience to draw like this, particularly an intense need for precision/perfection. The goal of most "how to" art videos/workshops is to teach you something that you actually could do realistically. I think very few people could actually do this technique because they'd go insane in the process. But the DVD would be worth buying maybe simply because it'd be fascinating to watch her work. It is impressive.

  • @pumkin54 You are exactly right. It really does take a certain type of personality to have the patience for this. I don't have that personality, which gives me a greater appreciation for when I see this type of work mastered. It really is amazing.

  • Its cool...but it seems so soft. Nothing really pops out. You know...it just seems like the art they put up in doctors offices....

  • jesus fuckin christ that would take me a century to plan, color, and finish X_X

  • That's cool in All but I dont have 10 years of my life to spend coloring apples

  • @TheSoulreaper9 Learn how and it won't take you ten years. Coloring pencils have some cool effects hard to get with oil paint. Of course, the reverse is also true. Each medium has its own charms and challenges.

  • OMG !!!!! SO COOL!

  • to get these results your color pencils have to as sharp as possible. but no matter how much I try my goddamn prismacolor won't sharpen properly. they keep breaking when I sharpen them D:<

  • I want this dvd so bad, but $40? thats a bit much!

  • If you draw something with color pencils and then decide later that you'd like to highlight some of it with white, what kind of tool can be used? Any?

  • @LoricaLady Electric eraser or White pencil

  • @DistincTHD Thanks so much for your reply. However the white colored pencils, like Prismacolor, I have used at best lighten the area somewhat, not enough to cause any significant highlights. Am I missing out on another kind of white pencil that can do it? (I've gotten desperate and resorted to "White-Out" typing paper strips. It does work great & holds up over time but doesn't make me feel very artisitic. Lol..) Next stop...check out electric erasers.

  • @LoricaLady you can try a white pastel pencil... thats what I use......after I erase some...

  • @ViciousBeautyNYC Oh, thanks for responding. I will tlry that, along with the Derwent electric eraser that's on the way.

  • @DistincTHD P.S. I see a wide range in prices for electric erasers on Amazon. Is there any that you think is best. I'd rather pay less of course, but if there is truly a great deal of difference beween the cheapy & pricey... Thanks so much again for your help.

  • @LoricaLady Im in the UK and i'd say its between Derwent (a very well known brand) or Jakar (an unknown brand which is more expensive than derwent's one) so its down to your opinion

  • @DistincTHD Derwent is cheaper so come to mama little eraser. May you have tons of great art experiences.

  • WHAOOO!!! AWESOME!! I have one question: Which is more difficult to learn and which one takes the more time, Watercolor or Pencil coloring?????

  • Ugh these people with videos like this make art look boring, and for old people, when the fact is art can be fun, easy, quick, and not so tiime consuming.

  • I REALLY loved this tutorial!!! I really learned a lot!

but I have a question: what kind of paper are you using and where did you buy it from? thank you!

  • I cant believe that is the result of color pencils amazing but too much work

  • amazing

  • The three top colored pencil artists in the world are Charles Bell (who primarily worked in oils), Gordon Parrish (no relation to artist and illustrator Maxfield Parrish), and Douglas Wise. Bell focused upon still life, Parrish focuses upon rural landscape, and Wise focuses upon still life, and urban and rural landscape. All three artists' works are Photorealism, or Hyper-Realism.

  • This artist is fairly well known, and is in the upper-middle tier of colored pencil artists.

  • Amazing work. I wish I was this talented.

  • Amazing work. I wish I was this talented.

  • how long did it took to finish ?

  • too good to be true... i dont have patience for this... thats why im abstract.. Great work btw.

  • @mfirebird3000 Colored pencil *is* amazing but you're right on the time. :)

  • Is Janie half black?

  • WOW! WTF!!

  • OMG ! OMG ! shes like a colored pencil GOD. bet she drew that in only 5 minutes

  • Amazing

  • janie's got a gun!!!!!

  • 1 question what type of sharpener do you use

  • @samuraigraffix Janie uses electric pencil sharpeners. She likes the Panasonic KP-310, which is unfortunately no longer available, but she likes other battery powered models from Panasonic and Berol Apsco. You can download a list of Janie's recommended tools on her artist page at the Creative Catalyst website.

  • @samuraigraffix Let me know if you find any good sharpeners. Both of mine cause my lead to break.

  • é um trabalho muito minucioso

    digno de aplausos

  • é um trabalho muito minucioso

  • How incredibly tedious.

  • i just wanna take the colored pencil outta her hand and stab it threw the paper! such lightness, and that voice! i could never....

  • Comment removed

  • @TheTwinsGhettoTV How? Have you met her before?

  • This takes a lot of time. I've followed the Dvd: it is a great instruction video on this type of art!

  • beautifully done, both the art and the video, very much enjoyed. And what a skilled artist!

  • Holy Crap

  • this in one way makes me not want to draw anymore, and makes me want to get better.

  • amazing.

  • cool

  • LOL I use crayola color pencils, cause I'm broke. One day I'm getting me some prismacolors

  • @whatifw I love my crayolas just as much as my prismas

I love the hardness of crayolas and the softness of prismacolors

I use both in my drawings

  • Color pencils! - the unsung hero of the art world... beautiful work

  • OMG adopt me please D:

  • omfg thats amazeing how is that even posible!!!

  • WOW! The only thing wrong with this video is that it ended way to fast.

  • wow. prismacolor pencils works like magic!!!!

or maybe she does the miracle???

  • wow love her nails there so beautiful so is her shading

  • T.T oh now i rly want to draw apples.. lol

  • looks so real!

  • I love your art work, very nice. Hey people come check out my art work its also very nice and complicated ^_^ rate, comment, subscribe. ;)

  • wow..

  • wow. she's excellent

  • and i thought colored pencils were crap

  • @jokeistman

    Ignorant idiot!

  • I'm sorry if my comment offended you.

  • @jokeistman

Apology accepted. Anyone who delights in any form of drawing or painting (or many other artistic expressions, including photography) will tell you that the pleasure, the sense of accomplishment you get from a piece or art goes has little to do with making an exact replica of the model. The pleasure comes from the creative process as much as the final product, if not more.

  • are they prisma color pencils???

or they are special for this work

  • wow, thats very talented

  • I can taste things more in this painting than eating it in real life. Great video! I love colored pencils.

  • I ordered this DVD and the sister DVD. They are wonderful! She walks you through the colors she uses and explains why she is using it, which is useful as I am always surprised by the color choices of professional artists. It is an absolutely wonderful set of DVDs. I very much encourage anyone who wishes to use colored pencil as a medium to order these videos.

  • want to do my art homework

  • I wish like hell I could get my Prismacolors to blend with that kind of photo-realistic smoothness - no matter how much I burnish them, I can STILL see the damn paper.....

And what a sweet, gentle voice that narrator has.

  • I really hate the speckly appearance too.

  • try using stonehenge paper. its awesome for colored pencils.

  • @AnnihilatingAngel thats because burnishing isnt the main part. Layering is important for a good realistic effect. Burnishing is a technique you dont want to use much. You need paper with a good tooth. Computer paper is crap.

  • @AnnihilatingAngel oderless mineral spirit might help, I use with Prismacolors

  • @AnnihilatingAngel Try a Colorless Blender Marker if you aren't already. I have pretty good success making the colors blend and look almost like watercolor paints!

  • @badbuttify Oh, I use the colorless blender - and the white pencil. And the mineral spirits....lol. Part of the trouble is the fact that I make ACEOs: the small size of the images magnify every tiny inconsistency.

  • WOAH!! COOL, keep up the good work :)

  • wow.. that impressed me :O

  • woha...

  • Glad you enjoyed this video. Janie is a very skilled artist and teacher.
