  • There are some articles out there that suggest Russell used pyramid measurements to arrive at 1874 and 1878 and eventually 1914. The WTS solidly denies those claims.

It is interesting though that he used the pyramid measurements in inches to represent years to arrive at his dates. If Russell had lived in a country using the metric system, what other date would he have come up with? Why would he think that any modern measurement system would apply to an ancient structure?

  • @JAT002 Hi Jatoo2,

Yes, there is ample evidence that Russell employed pyramidology to support both 1874 and 1914. "Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble ... And thus it will be noted that this "Witness" fully corroborates the Bible testimony on this subject..." (Charles Taze Russell, Thy Kingdom Come, Studies In The Scriptures, vol. 3, 1904 edition). The 1910 edition of this paragraph revised the date to 1914.

  • How did they get the information is a good question. I'm sure they think they have answers. So many of their predicted events end having to be reinterpreted as invisible after the fact.

  • @MsMrNoface Hi,

Actually, they don't. Thy may think their organization has the answers. But JWs in the field are at a loss when asked to comment. They invariably attempt to change the subject.; the reason being that their religion's foundations are groundless.

  • Very impressed with your concise video. Sorry for multiple posts.

  • Out of interest, why are you interested in such specific teachings of the Watchtower Bible Tract Society?

  • I am a JW at the moment and such specificity of dates has always made me question the scriptural veracity of such things. Really, this is just wild speculation. It really sounds to me like you have read Don Cameron...right?

  • @HanDeckardJones Hello,

Thanks for your comments. I had not heard Don Cameron's name until your post...but I have heard his book, "Captives of a Concept" spoken of (on line) quite highly. Other books have influenced my thinking, including Frans', "Crisis of Conscience" and Penton's, "Apocalypse Delayed". My interest in the WTBTS developed primarily through my Dad who associated with JWs for 5 years and also friends who were disfellowshipped. How about you?

  • @Vanderhoven7 I was baptised about 14years ago and the past 6 months I have been undergoing a metamorphosis. After lots of critical study I am beginning to realise that an operation of error is being allowed to continue in the WTBTS. My relatives and friends abandon me if I leave though so I have a dilemma...as do many people like me who have doubts. What a powerful tool the WTBTS uses to keep people submissive...

  • The Lord has been opening your eyes to the errors you speak of. I believe the leadership of the WTS reflect more the "evil servant" than the "faithful & wise", needlessly breaking up family relationships over itself and its' ever changing dogmas. You may end up losing family and friends for the love of Christ....but if that's the case, He will more than compensate, now and later. Let me encourage you to stand up for truth in love, no matter the outcome; no matter what men will do or say. Vander

  • @HanDeckardJones

If you haven't seen it already, you would like the video entitled "Understanding Watchtower-Created Phobias", in which many former Jehovah's Witnesses share the difficulties and fears they experienced in leaving the Watchtower.

  • Not to mention the talk given to all Witnesses between 1918 and 1922 entitled "millions living will never die " , Here we are 90 years later and I think its safe to say that millions of them in fact HAVE ALREADY died.

  • @kingofyal1

    Hi King,

Yes the millions campaign was a bust....just like their 1975 expectations. You would think that if Jehovah was really leading the GB that they would at least get it right once. All are bound for disappointment and tragedy who put their trust in men.
