First off, there are plenty more animals than people, and the animals that we kill we make sure to keep from going extinct. Human life should be a higher priority because it is OUR species. The goal of any and every species is to ensure that the species can carry on (survival of the fittest). Animals kill each other all the time, humans just adapted and evolved better and became the dominant species.
Therefore animals ARE NOT equal to humans, they have no sense of morality or law, at least not on the level of a human. They don't have the same brain capacity as a human does, and thus are biologically inferior to humans. Animal abuse is a terrible thing, but testing on animals is necessary for the evolution of mankind (animal testing has cured many diseases), and the actions taken by the ALF are disgusting.

For animal exploitation to be justified:
1. Calculate whether the life of animals as been exploited is worse, equal or better to their natural life.
2. If it is equal or better it is justified. But if it is worse then one must show that the benefit humans get out of this exploitation cancels out their suffering.
3. If there are more ethical ways for humans to gain benefit they ought to turn to them rather than exploiting animals.
Under this, most forms of animal exploitation is unethical

I am a neuropsychopharmacologist and I will tell you without hesitation that there is no effective alternative. But because you're convictions seem strong, never use any medication ever again, or undergo any operations. Polio was eradicated because of testing on primates, and the infectious pathway of Alzheimer's was recently discovered due to testing on rats. Those are just a couple of examples.

The Cutter incident was a production error that has nothing to do with R & D. I wish there was an effective alternative, really; but there simply isn't. Microdosing can only really test pharmacokinetics, not pharmacodynamics. Analytical pharmacology is a great first step, but it only reveals so much. Besides, this is just for drugs' effects. But what about testing the potential neurotoxicity of a drug and how to prevent it, etc.

Know that polio has not been eradicated by vaccination, it is lurking behind a redefinition and new diagnostic names like WNV, viral or aseptic meningitis, and Guillain Barre Syndrome.

First off, there are plenty more animals than people, and the animals that we kill we make sure to keep from going extinct. Human life should be a higher priority because it is OUR species. The goal of any and every species is to ensure that the species can carry on (survival of the fittest). @splaylegcynthia I get what you're saying but did you know that they grow tons of soy in what used to be rainforests, for animals that are going to be slaughtered when that food could be transported and used for starving people? I don't get it either D:
