  • that is low volume for checking noise floor of the preamp tubes

  • @minpinful What!!!??? No love from the guitar noobs. I'm disappointed. LOL!

  • not bad a bit rushed but not bad

  • nice amp

  • He ripped off " In Need " By Grand Funk !

  • @SL0E978 Listen to the solo break in Rock and Roll Machine by Triumph.

  • Why do I hear your guitar strings? That amp should be cranked up

  • Laneys are fantastic. Hey, Paul Gilbert plays them too, nuff said.

  • Holy f*** this is absolutely amazing, tone to the bone.

    Robin :o)

  • ur amazing my friend

  • great playing

  • what kind of speakers are in that cab?

  • Jesus that sounded really good. What the fuck was that? Laney head with master volume and Marshall cab with Greenbacks? Can't believe you achieved that tone at such a low volume...really impressive!

  • only bad ass looking amps like that have that tone

  • very nice sound. Those old Laneys don't get their just due. You do it justice as well. Love that old cab.

  • where did you get that cab and head?

  • How did you get that tone? Thats non master volume, right? Is it cranked? What type of power tubes?

  • where did you get those and how much were they?

  • can someone please explain why it's called a "brown" tone? thank you

  • it's called a brown tone, because it's the sound that makes you shit your pants.

  • Eddie uses it a lot in summer nights, it's that warm kind of sound. For people who have colour memory, as in they see colour for sound, it's kind of brownish.

  • wow...that sounded amazing. great chops and tone rolled into one is always nice to hear!

  • amazing what amo man sweet tone

  • U sure ur not Van Halen lol??

  • I'm very impressed not only by your tone, but also how well you emulate Eddie on the guitar! Nice shredding, and you gotta love the cab!

  • Geez, did eddy himself own that cab? lol. Excellent tone, very "brown" ! i admit i was skeptical at first, but it actually does sound quite like it!

  • Ed,

I dig that clip man; funny enough, I got an old mullard from tramp that I just cannot seem to replicate with any other tube. Brown as hell, and none of my others seem to come close

  • No it's a Laney 50 watt non AOR.

  • @crumbfish Thats not the linebacker 65 reverb is it?

  • I love the tone and the cover you rock \m/.. But i dont like that foot at the begining haha

  • got a variac on that beast?

  • No variac. I've tried a variac - the variac doesn't really change the tone, it makes what's already there sound more mushy and spongy. And if you go low enough, it sends the amp into class B and then it gets kind of buzzy. One day I will post some variac clips to compare them.

  • supposedly EVH used a plexi stock, with a variac running at 90 Volts though...plus a dummy load (20 ohms) to take the volume down.

  • i dont agree with the part of the sound not changing when used with a variac. marshalls in particular love to get teased with voltage changes. i could get any sound with just a guitar, good cable, good speakers and a variac

  • @crumbfish if i recall correctly the variac was used to reduce feedback at higher volumes. it meant you could drive the amp at a lower volume without having to crank it and worry about feedback. I was lucky enough to be able to try it and the only difference was the amount of feedback i was able to get at a higher volume. Great playing by the way brother, keep it up

  • that a Laney head your using and beat to shit Marshall cab

  • my lil marshall practice amp has the tone of EVH hahahahahhahahahaha isnt that awesome

  • Some of those little marshall practice amps sound amazing. Even the old solid state ones sounded great.

  • no .

  • dude i have a marshall thats only a year old and i can get the tone of EVH and it on has 3 knobs and ur saying thats not awesome sir i say something is wrong with ur brain

  • because i HIGHLY doubt you can... nobody can get THE brown sound out of a solid state amp(unless your using like a wampler pedal or something), especially if its just a cheap little marshall solid state amp. i love marshall amps, and i have a jcm2000tsl, but the marshall name isn't everything.

  • ya, just as i thought.... some kid just starting to learn how to play who really doesn't understand.... (which was me like 4 years ago, so i definitely can realize now..)

  • dude i swear it has the brown sound but is the EXACT sound no because its not the 1960 and it duznt use tubes and no i dont use any pedals just like EVH

  • oh god thats the sorriest lookin marshall cabinet ive ever see eddie's looked better and they overdriven so badly and he had it for 14 years before he made the 5150s

  • You got to treat them like women... cause if you treat them too good, they'll start making sounds you don't want to hear. LOL!

  • whats the brown sound?

  • Eddie Van Halen's Signature Tone!!

  • hey wat amp is that i wanna buy one

  • I'm surprised at how good that thing sounds at that volume level. 100 watts and you can still hear the strings! That's well below .5 lol

  • Using an attenuator?

  • No attenuator. Only a master after the phase inverter.

  • Do you mean the amp is modified? Pretty good tone. I use a JVM and do not come that close...

  • @crumbfish Whats a phase inverter?

  • great tone!

  • Wicked Tone Man,

    That was insane.

  • Awesome playing. Can't fault it.

    What kinda guitar was it?

  • super good low volume sounds

  • good tones - great playing too.

  • still cant get over how great this sounds!

    awesome playing!

  • Gotta love those Laneys

  • Oh yeah!

  • is that a Carvin/Laney amp

  • It is a Laney Pro Lead 50 watter.

  • Is that the non AOR model... i see it has metal corners

  • Rock and Roll, baby! Probably the best (partial) version of Eruption on the Tube! Niiiice!

  • el84 or 6ca7/el34 power tubes???

  • Mullard xf2 EL34's. The best output tubes I have tried in this amp were a set of clear bottle Genelex gold lion KT66's. The tone was amazing. I ended up selling the KT's when I needed the cash a couple of years ago.

  • Too bad the volume is soo low...

  • Yea I know. Actually the amp was pretty loud, but I recorded this with my laptop mic, which was around 8 feet away :-)

  • Laptop mic and mullard tube hehe. Cant record how awesome this should sound. I only hear ur guitar lol

  • wow that tone is amazing! did you do modify the amp?

  • damn i want a plexi =[

  • dude this is a sexy tone..are you selling this amp??

  • How did you record this using a laptop mic? Distance? Program? etc....

  • whoa man!!! AMAZING TONE AND PLAYNG!! is that a plexi?what ever it is it sounds insane!!

  • No, it's a Laney. They're fine amps, I've had two.

  • @fender51503 Its a Laney Pro Tube series. Likely a modded 100 watt into an old early 70's basketweave that's seen better days.

  • Diggin it!!

  • 'Nice chops...

  • I own a laney AOR series 1 AOR50 I was just wondering what you're using for settings and pedals?

  • damn nice sound!

I have got a Peavey 6505 (equal to 5150) now, and what kind of setting should i use to get a tone almost equal to this?.

i also have a Peavey EVH Wolfgang, with EVH`s choice of pickups. so the guitar will sound perfect with the right amp setting.

  • Can't help you with settings, but neither this nor the real Eruption were played on a 5150/6505. Eddie used a Plexi, I believe (I doubt he ever REALLY used the 5150 anyway, but that's just conjecture). I hate to say it, but I doubt the vintage Van Halen sound is anywhere in your amp.

  • I have a 6505, and while it is a great amp it is not the 5150 head. The 6505 is modelled after the 5150 II head. Can't say for sure about the 5150 but the 6505 has a scoop to the preamp, compared to a plexi, that you CAN NOT break through stock. GO find a GOOD 68' plexi clone and practice. That's how to get Ed's tone. : ) Green Backs help too. ; )

  • the 6505 is modeled after the 5150, the 6505+ is the 5150II

  • man thats a dirty ass cabinet in the picture lol

    but great sound

  • Sounds awesome man!

  • This is the best Van Halen sounds I've seen ! FUcking awesome , record aint talking bout love or eruption (tapping part) we want more !

  • Thanks man! I have been meaning to post the full version of eruption. When I get some time, I'll post some more.

  • Awesome sound !!!

  • Thanks! I will be getting some Celestion G12M's pretty soon. Cant wait to hear them.

  • Cool.

  • This is SICK!Nails the early vh tone.after seeing this vid i noticed a pic i had of ed and it had a laney head he said he rented.

  • In no way does this guys tone nail van halens. However, his technique is absolutely amazing and he pulls VH off flawlessly. EVH gets 90% of his tone in his fingers anyways. This is amazing stuff...keep it up!!!

  • I disagree, listen to any video of the US festival 83 on here and then tell me if its not close.

  • That my friends is a awesome example of re amping!! take a kick ass tone and re amp it! And of course the Fishman nailing some ed to the tee!1 good job brother!!

  • What amp is that??? Ampeg? Laney? Hiwatt?

  • hey said it already in discription its a Laney Pro Tube

  • wow you got audio of the gods moving planets!!!

  • nice fierce playin bro.

  • ripping brother, hold on to that bad boy & crank that sucka up!

  • damn that was great what kind of amp is that? Crank It!

  • Jesus man, that is amazing. Best I've ever heard. The tone is spot on as well as technique. Just turn up the amp more.

  • the tone is not spot on. Its his fingers that nail it!!

  • That's true to an extent. You can tell he's hitting the strings with a lot of muscle.

  • Check out my vid of me playing eruption through a mgdfx marshall.

  • hes right listen to the tone not the playing and you will realize that its actually very diferent from EVH. its the playing that makes it sound like EVH. if he played acdc or something like that you wouldnt even think about the tone from EVH.
