Are they the same device? Is like a range-finder or what? Please advise.

  • It's called a directors Viewfinder, It has a PL mount for 35mm lenses and a groundglass inside that matches the format the camera will be shooting.

  • Thanks, but what does "PL" stand for?

  • Positve Lock

  • Indeed

  • very interesting....

I was wondering about the thing on the side of the camera though !

theirs like a little rod thing hanging out the right hand side of the camera that some guy rotates as the action is taking place in the first set of clips

    what is it for ?

  • google "focus puller"

  • you have no idea how happy you have made me with your knowledge of this subject.

without your input I wouldn't have known what to Google for

you are a very kind person, a rare thing on the internet

    thank you so much....

  • hey, no problem ! thank YOU

    i like to help

    friend*

  • its a "follow focus"... basically its the focus of the cam. thats a little dial that the "focus puller" has to turn to focus the person/item in action (in all professional cinema cameras, like the RED camera used here, the focus is handled separately by the "focus puller". the white ring is a paper ring, where the focus guy writes little markings that help him focus according to the position of the actor.

  • film making is the realm of fantasy and magic....

    I love it....

    Thank you for your comment....

    : )

  • yeah, its pretty cool. its fun to see the process of filmmaking, after having watched the film. one cool thing: the camera was mainly operated by women ;-) that was nice to see

  • awesome movie. props to the southafrican director and to the gifted actors! whenns the bluray coming out?

  • In the first shot it easiest to see. Not the camerawoman or the guy guiding her, but the other guy holding a nob thing extended from the camera, what exactly does that do? Is it the focus? or something like that? He can be seen twisting it in other shots to, so I assume it's something like that. Anyone know for sure?

  • Yes, he is the focus puller - he's adjusting the focus.

  • Yes, he's the "focus puller".

  • lol the wog is holding the big white board

  • Love this movie. If only they'd make more like this.

  • thanks for this, very enjoyable.

  • So good that I'm gonna watch the movie again.

  • this movie was aweasome

  • looks like you totally missed the point ergo, you are probably a bit of a moron, like transformers did you buddy? douche.

  • You dumbass...

  • no, it keeps her whole body stable, and hes not touching her ass hes touching her hips

  • i think its so that she keeps the camera stable

  • That'd be pretty cool if they made one of these with the aliens in it. Like as camera crew and actors....

  • no he does that to guide her...because she cant be looking away from the lense she need to be looking threw is all the time

  • They do not use rubber bullets. Mainly due to ricochets. They use Single Shot Prop Guns for certain scenes, Glass filled rifle barreled guns for automatic fire (Because the blank alone will not push the piston back and cycle the round) Hence the adapters the US ARMY uses in training. They also use a veriety of Dream Guns and CGI. They've used plastic guns, CGI and sound for years now.. a ton of movies have it.. and its quite noticeable when they don't do a decent job at it.

  • What about Simunitions? Don't those push the piston back? Why don't they use those?

  • Yes they're real weapons with blank rounds. Extra umph is added afterwards in the sound booth :). God I can't wait to see this in theatres!!

  • is this rated r?

  • yes it is, for violence I believe

  • aye

  • yes

  • Awesome. Cool to see behind the scenes

  • movies look so lame when it is shown kike this haha

  • LV6 ALERT!!!

  • they are using the RED one camera?

  • do these use real guns or replicas?

  • Replicas ofcourse

  • yea they really fire at the man driving

  • could be real firearms with blank rounds

  • that was sarcasm.

  • real but the use rubber

  • prolly real guns with blanks.

  • spoiler alert!! XD
