There has been a great deal of interest in the transference of Aikido technique in to MMA with the involvement of Steven Segal with Anderson Silva and Machida. Rik Ellis is to make a video of these techniques in 2012.

@Aikitrad You do know that Seagal's involvement was a publicity stunt on part of Silva's agent, right? Hell, he even "trained" with Lyoto, and Machida could barely keep a straight face.

@Aikitrad Sorry to break it to you, but aikido is useless in MMA as there is small joint manipulation (including wrist) is not allowed and because wrestling is prevalent.

@TheNierbo Small joint manipulation case- fingers are not allowed but wrists are absolutely allowed! It is just kinda hard to pull it against wrestlers (and there are tons of guys that are predominantly wrestlers in MMA, especially UFC). Where I see it's applicability is in situations where you are clinched against the cage (you can often hear the coaches screaming "control the wrist" ), aikido/JJJ techniques are god given for reversing situations like that and even setting up a sub.
