The Shadow side of nature has nothing to do with evil. It's just nature. One side of nature people are still afraid to face. The most disgusting things in this life should be meditated upon.
Does anybody know if that was a real scene of the bird dying? I thought it was a brilliant film with some damn fine special effects, but I'm not sure if this was an effect or not.
I don't necessarily think the movie went "over people's heads," but I think it was beyond their understanding. Lars was trying to show how a super clinically depressed person sees the world, from their point of view, and he nailed it. But unless you've lived it, I guess you can't understand the film really.
@TeddySalamander Well, i know that a lot americans thinks that this film is euro-trash, but beleave me when i say that you must see it before judging it.
There are birds that SUCK BLOOD from other LIVING birds cause it's their only source for non-salt water (yes, vampire birds lol). It's all very normal and not SIGNS OF CHAOS AND SATAN but I guess in context with the movie it works like that. That baby bird seemed to be nearly dead anyway, when animals are in that stage nature has found another use for them long ago.
That's very interesting :) can you please give me the names of a few?
And yes, I understand that you're saying just because it happens doesn't make it evil. It is used in this movie, however, to show that for what they thought was beautiful, reality is just as harsh towards it. Also, that woman's baby fell (at the start of the film) from their apartment window, and was killed after being shown hitting the cement stories below, so the falling is also referencing that :)
They're called Vampire Finch, they also drink from other birds' eggs. What is weirder is that the birds that are attacked don't do anything about it o_O
The Oxpecker drinks from cattle.
And I remembered that some species of Cuckoo lay eggs on others' nests and the baby cuckoo that is born gets rid of that bird's babies, and let's not forget the baby sea lions trampled to death by the adults, and so on... I've seen too much NatGeo, but I also see what you mean heh!
@aidentheodd You kidding, I live out in Amish country. I see that kind of stuff on a daily basis. Even stand on a pile of crap big enough that it's actually smoldering even though it's about a few months old? I have. Bottom line: Nature cover's every notch and if there's something that needs to be done, Nature will find a way.
@CalicoVall What I mean is that there would still be the same amount of biological matter if animals didn't eat each other. matter doesn't just dissappear inside an animal it comes out the other end. 'Matter cannot be created or destroyed it can only be converted'. And no I haven't ever stood on a pile of crap so big that it's still smouldering after months. For one thing crap doesn't smoulder. it steams. and I very much doubt that you've ever even seen crap steaming after even a day.
@aidentheodd I see. But that's not the point I'm trying to make. I'm not saying that it nature destroys bio-matter, I'm just saying that bio-matter wouldn't be put back into the system if animals didn't eventually eat each other or decompose dead bio-matter. So, nature must recycle what's already there back into the circle of life. And I know what the difference between steaming and smoldering. Steam is the water in the crap turning into a vapor due to differences in temperature.
@aidentheodd While the smoldering crap that I've had to shovel for compost is smoldering because there's enough sunlight heating the pile while the decomposition produced enough heat in the pile that the lower part of the pile was smoldering and mostly ashy. BTW: I'm talking about a few tons of the stuff. There wasn't much smell since it was there the entire year and it was a hot April.
@CalicoVall No you numpty's the steaming pile of biological matter is still steaming after months because the bacteria inside are breaking down the biological matter creating heat. My chickens used to sit on a great big pile... Bigger than the one in the film and feast on little red worms that live in the biological matter. Crap is good for chickens and those ants here would make a tasty treat. I never saw an eagle on the big steaming crap tho.
