@international1256. I have a Wd45 and it is a great tractor with good power. But if you weighted it up the same as that 720D it would probably just about break it in half or it would rip the rear end out of it trying to pull. The ole 720D is much better suited to this application. How could a IH pull it? All of them stay in a shed and are never used.
@international1256, completely agree. But..... to alot of people it is fun to watch. I have three A JDs, Allis Chalmer WD45 & B. Im only 20yrs old but I love this stuff. I could set and watch it all day. Not only do I have old tractors but my everyday driver is a 1979 F150. Not to mention the 79 Bronco and 73 F100 I have also.
man i lvoe the sound of them old john deeres!!! my neighboor had 8 he restored!! he has one that is a g with a pipe just like that..man that thing is music to my ears. go john deere!!!
First off...this wasn't a good pull. Tractor wasn't balanced properly and when you stone boat or "dead sled" with a stock or near stock two cylinder you should never slip the clutch. Breakdown: There is a set drawbar or "hitch" point on the tractor. You can hook below but never above. A full pull is 16feet. Typically, two to three rounds. For example, 1st round sled weighs 8000,tractor weighs 8000. Next round, sled may way 10,000,tractor remains at 8000. Whoever pulls the farthest wins.
i didnt see the front wheels coming up slightly... Which means that when hooking the chain higher above the rear axle, you could have pulled more weight of the concrete, on the rear axle of the tractor.
Well, IT DOESN'T!!! HA HA My cousin bought a new 720 diesel in 57 and started pulling it here at our local county fair that same year!!! That guy pulling in that video has been doing that for a lot of years with that tractor. You just make sure you keep the maintence up every year. They have a plow days in the fall where they plow all day with that tractor!!! It'll be alirght
@rmpruitt, I have to agree, it really doesn't seem to hurt them at all. Unlike years before, the aftermarket world for two-cylinder performance is starting to get huge now-a-days.
The wheels are slipping, therefore the strain on the drivetrain is not very much. You create ALOT more drivetrain stress when you're tilling and the front wheels come of the ground, as the drivetrain is pulling the front up.
@vosnextdieselgen Oh fuck that. That's what it's there for, to tear up. Shit, they aren't special. 720's are a dime a dozen, may as well break it. Break it fuckin' good too.
this just shows how good john deeres really and thats why i love them

Why? So as soon as the tractor begins to bog it just quits?
JtsGreene 2 years ago
Heck No! Hook an Allis D-21. It'll be all throttle, besides that tired ol' Deere did'nt pull that weight anywhere before it dug it's self a hole.

So what's the purpose? I mean, how is this different from a "regular" tractor pull? How's it measured?
Don't think I don't like it! I'm just curious.
