If you don't like this, you have no soul. Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest pianists in the history of the world and his playing is mind-blowing as usual here.
This was stunningly beautiful. I was moving around the apartment finishing chores at the end of uninspiring weekend, and was stopped in my tracks by this Ms. Rae and Mr Hancock. Exquisite.
I understand Paul might have had an African person in mind when he wrote the song and I am not racist, but this was terrible! Paul didn't look like he enjoyed himself like he did when the Jonas brothers performed(i am not a fan of theirs but I thought they did good). I couldn't even listen to the whole song, I had to fast forward and Blackbird is one of my fav Beatles songs!!
@thecommenter90 i think we were watching a different show because this version is terrific. Their arrangement of the song is incredible and her voice is exquisite. The performance had feeling as opposed to the jonas brothers' performance which was basically a copy of the original and forgettable.
@cuttooth Thank you for your opinion, but it is obvious we have completely different views on the matter. I have a lot of respect for people who will go out and make a song their own, this version is just not or me. I don't like her voice and this version is too slow and jazzy(The Beatles were not jazzy!). I prefer the original song the way it was written and intended to be sung.
The song is about black people. A positive and uplifting song dealing with freedom and expression. Appropriately sung and played by black people. Low key and jazzy. Nice!
i was the first one to make a negative vote, i don t know what that means, honestly, perhaps i m wrong, but i think they ruined it... don t see paul very happy
fav jazz pianist = herbie hancock.... the man is just the most versatile being ever. He can do straight ahead jazz, funk, fusion, rock, and he can even just redo a beautiful pop ballad such as this in his own musical mastermind image.
I'd love to hear someone play "I am the Walrus". I know it's a John song but I think it would be insanely awesome. But someone should sing it at a John tribute, cause now it's Paul moment!!!
@badomenechdecelles ...are you kidding? Drake Bell will never come close to the brilliance of this performance. Both Corinne Bailey Rae and Herbie Hancock are incredible musicians, which is why they were invited to perform for Paul McCartney and the President.
Wow, as if everyone didn't know already how talented these two are. Beautiful touch and transitions. You know someone's a true musician when it's as though the music just flows naturally from their being the way it does for these two...
Haha, And who doesn't think Herbie has the perfect "aww yeah" smile on the last few notes of the song?
I had almost forgotten this song was written specifically for the African American Rights, that just makes this performance even more perfect. This was the first time i was hearing her and i usually don't like covers of their songs, but I LOVED this one. And for me, that's saying a lot. Well done.
After this performance, I had a huge crush on her. A week later I find out she's 31... I thought she was 20 or so.... I still have a crush on her though. haha
This is splendid. I'm a huge CBR fan, but this was just... wow.

I don't like the jazzy chords, 'cause this song is beautiful because of it's simplicity. But the pianist was treat.

I don't like to trash songs, because it's all opinions.
The Beatles version is perfect.
Listen to Joe Sample & Randy Crawford. Randy makes this girl look like an AmIdol reject.

And blackbird...was a black-southafrican woman fighting for freedom. McCartney was aware of the apartheid. Peter
