I have six keris,of which, one is of peninsular origin (Adeg pamor),and is almost wholly black, therefore requiring no additional patination. The others being Javanese. After repeated efforts, I have arrived at a colouration with which I am satisfied (the colours being subtle smoky greys). I would very much like to repeat the process with a Balinese keris ( the colour contrast being more dramatic), but am without a Balinese keris to work with. Perhaps at some future point .
Google pauls keris page. Also try searching warangan (arsenic). The process itself is difficult to master. It is essential that blade is Absolutely free of oil (try oven cleaner,if you feel that it`s not too undignified for the blade). Trial and error is a large factor; the degree of light plays a part too (realgar-warangan is photo sensitive). I recommend you to try it ,is a most fascinating process. However, arsenic is both toxic and carcinogenic ; beware absorption via contact with skin.Peace
@superyusrie Some of the features commonly found on kerises are certainly of Hindu origin (most notably, the "Kembang Kachang", or belalai gajah), clearly a reference to Ganesha. Five-luk keris are often referred to as "Pandawa", a direct reference to the five Pandava brothers, heroes of the Mahabarata (a kembang kachang resembling a talon is sometimes known as "Nguku Bhima", or Bhima's claw, Bhima being one of the Pandavas). The Hindu Garuda is also a very common element of keris symbolism.
Bcoz it is originated from the Hindu culture in Indonesia back in the 10th century then spread throughout the archipelago and even S.E. Asia, as the Hindu Majapahit empire conquered the areas of what are known today as Indonesia,Malaysia, the Philippines, and small part of Thailand during 13th to 15th century.Bali is d only place in the world that still practicing the real culture of Hindu Majapahit Empire and maybe really small parts of Java as well..Just for information :) cheers
By the way, have you ever tried washing keris with warangan? I thought that I might have some difficulty in obtaining arsenic (for obvious reasons!), but was a simple matter of procuring realgar crystal from a stone and mineral boutique. Was absolutely fascinating process and was only slightly poisoned as a result ha ha. (heartily recommend face-mask when grinding crystal!).Realgar is photo-reactive ,and this plays some part in the process. Am a long way from mastering the procedure;is complex.
Hello. Did sleep with keris under pillow, but didn`t notice any difference in dreaming. However, simply by regarding the consequences of the relationship between myself and this keris, I can only assume that the mission of the keris was to educate! I have described the keris as pandava in reference to the blade shape (5 luk, representative of the brothers of the same name, heroes of the vedas). THe prabot is nguku bhima (Bhima`s claw;a hook, rather than an elephant trunk). Pamor beras wutah.
I bought my first keris (5 luk pandava) at a flea market in the U.K. At that time, I knew almost nothing about the culture of Indonesia/ malaysia ,but was so fascinated by the complexity of the weapon that I began a quest for understanding. Whilst I am still little more than an ignorant outsider, I feel that my eyes have been opened to a fascinating world of magnificent craftsmanship, art and magic.
No body can sale LIFE KERIS or another traditional blade. And some bad spiritual practice trap jinn in the DEATH Keris and sale them to the Collector. The fact, human cann't choose the Life Keris how much he has money. The keris and the keris master must have same frequenci,so the master can control keris. Not keris control the owner/master.
So Jinn are trapped in the blade there just can manifest themselves into the blade because it's been infused with qualities they can resonant and manipulate? I'm trying to learn to possess objects
At 1:43 the Empu makes gestures like accentuating the edge of the blade which gives me thrills to see it. Do You know what he is actually doing there?
beautiful craftsmanship, that was very interesting and extraordinary, i did not know much about kerises and now you reminded me of them and i shall study about them as well, thank you
