How is this corny? Julianne Moore and Steven Weber do an amazing job. Their story in this clip is melodramatic, but their acting is mesmerizing. They still give me chills. If they were really corny actors neither one would have ended up as well-known actors. He starred in several hit shows "Wings" and "Once and Again" and even my favorite "Studio 60", and she is a four time Academy Award nominated actress (and probably will earn a fifth nomination for her work in "The Kids Are All Right").

@Empathywriter: Julianne Moore is not a corny actress but her performance on this soap opera was not as professional as her acting technique in the movies The Hours or Far From Heaven that gained her Academy Awards nominations. Pause at 0:28-30, 2:02- 2:04, 3:11-3:17, 3:58-4:15 => I can clearly point out her flaws in acting. However, she has gained more experience after leaving the soap.

@avalanchesoul it has to do with the writing and directing style. Soaps play heavily on subtext and melodrama - its the nature of the scripts and the directors will usually direct actors in that style. Any actor will end up looking corny if that's the way their performance is shaped.

Actually, she doesn't, she loves the guy she's arguing with, but he lied to her the whole time they were together at school, because he already had a girlfriend who was expecting his child. She and the British guy are just friends, he married Marisa Tomei's character. She just didn't want to be involved with a guy who was about to be a father - she was only 19.

Actually the other girl, lied that Kevin (the character played by Steven) was the father of her baby. The actual father would turn out to be a rich guy who forced her to get an abortion. Of course, Kevin only figured out that the girl was lying shortly before she'd be killed off later on in the year 1985, on Halloween (yes, I was a big fan of this show at this time).

Wow, Steven Weber wasn't bad looking back then (I've had a crush on him since he was on Wings). My mom watches this soap, and remembers him very well on here - she said he played a total jerk. He's a very convincing actor, as he played both lovable jerks (Brian Hackett) and hateable jerks equally well, as evidenced here.

And Julianne Moore? She is very beautiful, especially her hair - I wanted her hair when I was a kid, even since I saw 9 Months.
