@blowupuate13 they have them there for changing into road/stage modes and for coming to complete stops so it doesnt stall. (like at a traffic light driving to the next stage)
@blowupuate13 you still need the clutch and most modern semis will have 2 states for driving, one with "road laws" and another for driving flat out. you still need the clutch even then to pull out of first for hairpins and any stops but collins too quick for full stops lol

Just to clarify: Dogbox has nothing to do with the whine. The whine is because of the gears being straight-cut. Just like reverse in most cars. The drive gears in most cars are helical and don't have the whine that reverse does, but this car has straight cut gears for all of the drive gears.
The difference in power lost in a straight cut gearbox and helical gearbox is minimal at best.
Also, all gears in every manual transmission are always engaged. Being straight cut has nothing to do with it. You might be thinking of a dogbox instead of a syncro transmission, but what you posted is not correct. In a dogbox transmission, you can throw the gears because you don't have to wait for the syncros to be going the same speed, but that can be on straight or helical transmissions.

Its a manual dog cut box, hence the whine. It uses a clutch, but gears are changed using a sequential shifter.

Helical are used to reduce noise, but increase friction, hence reduces power.
Also with straight teeth you can just throw the shift, it well enter more easily
