Barbaro was a great horse, I was there during his KY Derby race and I watched him during the Preakness race. My sister was with me, and we were hoping they wouldnt race him after he had his false start, we knew something was wrong with him. Sadly, his injury, as well as the one Eight Belles had are a result of inbreeding to get the fastest horses we can. Disgusting really, the horses are paying for our greed with their lives.

@CJay669 Every horse starts running at 2. 3 year old horses run the Triple Crown. Juvenile perhaps, but not infants or toddlers by any means. And to be clear...99% of racehorses live to breed. Barbaro was a really sad anomaly. A really good horse brought down in his prime...sounds like a lot of humans I know as well.
@highflya9290 Once a horse breaks their legs its almost impossible to heal, they will just be in pain, they can't be riden anymore and its better to just put them outta pain. usually horses like barbaro they arent fully developed yet. also a horse really can't recover because when they break their legs you can give them rest and not ride them just leave them be they still cant use crutches and stay off of their foot. they cant lay down either because horse cant lay down for long periods of time
@highflya9290 Horses arent like other animals. With dogs and cats, you can amputate the leg and they typically can live a fairly normal life. You cant do that with a horse. And horsechick100's right- horses legs in relation to their weight arent that supportive. Its very rare that a horse can break its leg and have it heal completely well enough for them to do anything ever again, whether it be racing or just chilling out in a pasture.

Not knowing a situation and methods of treatment which were applied it is certainly difficult to reason, and the more so does not make sense to lay someone to not humane attitude toward a horse. Laminit (even sharp) treats oneself, there is a great number of methods which we returned horse mobility.

When Barbaro jumped the gate he should have been pulled from the race. He was telling us something was wrong and we did not listen. We were captivated by the beauty of Barbaro running at full speed. The next Triple Crown Winner. Racing needs to make alot of changes, that's obvious. However,Barbaro was very lucky to be owned, and loved, by the Jackson's. They spent millions to give him a chance at life. How many owners would have done that? RUN FREE Barbaro..you are in the company of champions.
How many more need to die?Ruffian,Barbaro,Go for the Wand, Landseer and now Eight Bells + 300 other no-name racers in the last year. England put down another 174 in the same period, all race injuries- 77% were fractures of which 30% were multiple fractures like Eight Bells. Limits are needed-move age up to 3-4 yr olds, lower # races per yr,uniform track surfaces, and COMPLETE medicals before each race. Small problems (in bones,tendons,muscles) become big ones running at full speed.
For the greediness of a few you condemn all. I had a thoroughbred, her whole life was running it was was she loved most, though she never raced. I did dressage and jumping and yet the injury she sustained that almost killed her came from her taking off for a total of 3 strides. She was happy and loved, and well cared for. All it takes is a split second. Barbaros owners cared enough to pay extensive vet fees and put him down when it was just too much instead of putting him down on the track

I have a TB neclace, it has a horse galloping, with a jockey, and sometimes, i hold it and think of him, and i cry. the thing is my father died not long before, so i only hope that my father takes care of him up in heaven.

Not knowing a situation and methods of treatment which were applied it is certainly difficult to reason, and the more so does not make sense to lay someone to not humane attitude toward a horse. Laminit (even sharp) treats oneself, there is a great number of methods which we returned horse mobility.

omg. barbaro raced greatly and then had an accident and died. isnt it obvious? most of the thoroughbreds are raced to young when they aren't fullly developed. its sad how people could be so cruel to pput a horse at risk like that. how many horses have fallen and gotten hurt or died. racing is a grate sport but its a stupid decision.

I think that horse racing should stay but the drugs they give them is bad steriods are half of the problem but i don't think Barbaro was on steriods and in the post parade Barbaro was limping and got out of the gate before the other horses i think they should have scrached him!!

Although my favorite is still Scretariat, I was so so sad, when heard of Babaros fate. He was really a wonderful and amazing horse! I hope is now in a place, where is forever spring, where it it is always warm and the grass is green! We will always remember you! You will be always in our heart!

When Barbaro jumped the gate he should have been pulled from the race. He was telling us something was wrong and we did not listen. We were captivated by the beauty of Barbaro running at full speed. The next Triple Crown Winner. Racing needs to make alot of changes, that's obvious. However,Barbaro was very lucky to be owned, and loved, by the Jackson's. They spent millions to give him a chance at life. How many owners would have done that? RUN FREE Barbaro..you are in the company of champions.

How many more need to die?Ruffian,Barbaro,Go for the Wand, Landseer and now Eight Bells + 300 other no-name racers in the last year. England put down another 174 in the same period, all race injuries- 77% were fractures of which 30% were multiple fractures like Eight Bells. Limits are needed-move age up to 3-4 yr olds, lower # races per yr,uniform track surfaces, and COMPLETE medicals before each race. Small problems (in bones,tendons,muscles) become big ones running at full speed.

For the greediness of a few you condemn all. I had a thoroughbred, her whole life was running it was was she loved most, though she never raced. I did dressage and jumping and yet the injury she sustained that almost killed her came from her taking off for a total of 3 strides. She was happy and loved, and well cared for. All it takes is a split second. Barbaros owners cared enough to pay extensive vet fees and put him down when it was just too much instead of putting him down on the track
