  • There is something special about geared steam whistles.

  • its a shay. no speed but it could pull the empire state building

  • Truly amazing machines those Shays; they never seemed to make it to Europe, so I've never seen one for real.

  • Shays aren't known for acceleration. I think they were used primarily for moving wood downhill.

  • This is one of several shays that reside at the Cass Scenic Railroad near White Sulfur Springs West Virginia.

  • Shay #4 is a cute little engine.

  • For some reason, I don't usually associate "acceration" with a Shay loco. But it moved fairly quickly!
