One question - how many people in Leicestershire depend on the base for employment? Whether thats being directly employed within the base, or working for contractors who are hired by the base, right down to the corner shops who absorb the passing trade everyday......?

excellent point, i hear that there are local groups opposed to the faslane protest because there road blocks holding up locals on there way to work and school. most of these protestor claim that its there right to protest but the military is what earned them that right and the only thing protecting it.

They'll arm themselves well past the teeth if we set up an arms race! And "deterrence" doesn't stop terrorists; they're quite willing to blow themselves up so they're not going to worry about being evaporated after firing nukes. And our nuclear stuff could easily get into terrorist hands: look at all the times when anti-nuclear campaigners find trucks full of uranium, unguarded, in railway sidings. And Iran hasn't actually got any nukes, unlike Israel, who has nukes with our govt's blessing.

How long have you been protesting?? what difference have you made? (apart from re-directing police resources out of the communities that badly need them, annoying the local residents, disrupting the local traffic) NONE. So do us all a favour, go get a job and contribute to society instead of milking it.

Faslane protesters have been trying really hard not to disrupt people not involved with the base and there haven't been bloackades during the exam period that could cause trouble for students.

However, we're not going to stop protesting. Trident is illegal and immoral and incredibly expensive. I'm sure the locals would benfit more from seeing some of those billions spent on local schools, or hospitals.

Never mind about how old the protester is, they all cause more hassle to the local community than Trident ever has. Living locally, buses stop, people can't get to work, children to the local secondary school. You all seem to forget how integral the bas is to the community in terms of civilian jobs and the impact it has on the local economy. We don't need you telling us what's for the best. GO HOME!
