aside from his amazing talent and hard work does anyone know how david gets that bright sound with what mouthpiece and basically what kind of baffle? because ive seen people on youtube test the high baffle mouthpieces and they sound the same as students in the 5th grade band concert...
@dustbiter445 practice and long tones buddy (he is like 60 now and he says he still practices everyday)......the way his oral cavity is structured plays a big roll if you play on a dukoff d8 chances are you still won't sound like him exactly
Hiram Bullock lost his life to substance abuse. He was a great musician. Several times he has performed in the Syracuse jazz fest. He needed to learn how to relax when performing on stage...He appears too restless.
@patrikc8 Lots of kids do. I was buying jazz records with my money from chores at your age lol First one was Mulligan Meets Monk. Mulligan got me on bari sax. Some good stuff.
There are lots of kids like you into jazz, and it's not weird. Just too many teens listen to crap today because it's popular. A lot of jazz clubs allow in kids under the drinking age some nights. I went to my local one every Monday lol Got to play there too when I turned 16! You should go! Live's the best!
David sanborn has a way with making the sax sound better than any voice with lyrics. Great sound, melody, and most of all great band to perform these great hits. Hes definitely my fav! very charming too ;)
Damn, David looked hot back in the day! I first became familiar with his work with the "Hideaway" album back in '79/80. To this day, "Carly's Song" is still one of my favorite tunes. I heard his music before I saw what he looked like and I just know from the soul that exudes from this man's sax that he had to be a brotha. Imagine my surprise when I first saw his pic 30 years ago and discovered he's a white man. And a fine looking one at that!

The two best, most impressive sax sounds I've heard in live concert were Branford's soprano and Sandborn.
That's just how an alto should sound, all due respect to Parker, Cannonball, and the other greats.

Great stuff from David. I just love the way Hiram Bullock skips around the stage in bare feet. He is sadly missed and was a unique player.
