  • Butkus best ever!

  • Dick Butkus couldnt make it in todays game. Sorry to brake in down to you guys. He's a hard hitter and a sure takler but todays game you need way more to succed in todays games. Butkus went up against 250lbs linemen and had two cover slow unathletic tightends. Football players wont even full time players back then. You really think he could cover Gates, Gonzales, or V. Davis or hit Stephen Jackson or Jacobs with ease? Go against 320lbs plus athletic linemen of today? I don't. Hes not the best

  • Shame he didn't have the luxury of having arthroscopic surgery like the players have now....

  • ditka looks just like butkus

  • kojak: you clearly don't know the game of football. you act like there were no fast players when he played. no matter what skills you have, football is played with heart.players today that have heart are few and far between. put butkis in his prime in todays game and running backs wont go up the middle and receivers wouldn't cross the middle. b4 you "try" and declare that you know who can do what and who can't consult with someone who knows more then you and get back to us. try a 4th grader

  • @gotasatisfy Only problem is Butkus would LOSE money in today's NFL because of that worthless pap smear Roger Goodell.

  • @gotasatisfy Today's runningbacks would make him look silly. Yes I know Butkus was 240 lbs, but he was bigger than most linemen back then. He was great for his time, but nowdays no.

  • @kojak235 Dick Butkus was a slow weak white who played is segregated NFL so he never faced real black men who would run his weak cracker ass over

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 The matchup we never saw was Butkus vs. Jim Brown.....it would have been one for the ages.

  • @TerrorWarrior5000 segregated?.. i guess u never heard of gale sayers who was on the same teams as butkus

  • @kojak235 If Butkus were playing today he would have been subject to the very same physical conditioning, training and demands that any other player in the 2000s endured during their amateur years. He would be in better shape than in the 60s...faster, quicker and stronger than in the 60s. So consider all things being equal before you make stupid assumptions. And what running backs?....what league have you been watching?

He be Moby Dick in a goldfish bowl....don't doubt me.

  • @possumtail I agree with what you are saying, but all I'm saying is that butkus in his prime back then would get demolished in todays football. Yes butkus would be better nowdays because of the technology. Why don't you stop making assumptions? Stop talking about the 60's. Ther are QB's that would run a circle around him. Sounds like you drank out of the fish bowl to much.

  • @kojak235 But what people are trying to get through your thick scull is that you DON'T match up players from these two eras, so why do it? Hell, that's like expecting Fred Flintstone to move in with the Jetsons!.....lordy, I've heard better reasoning from my sister's kids.

Today's game is full of pussies; yeah, they're faster and stronger, but you transport them back to the 60s where they get a dose of low pay and having to find a job in the offseason and you'll see a bunch of brats..enjoy

  • he called time-out when they couldn't win just so he can get more hits on the offense. Awesome.

  • @mrstanyoo That's my kind of football player.

  • KOJAK U R AN IDIOT.... if u think dick Butkus would be a bench player in any era u don't know much about the game. And your right players today are faster and stronger because weight programs. If Butkus had all that he would gave been even bigger... At 6-4 240... He is as big as any middle backer today. Look it up. Moron, u must be 17

  • @prirkyl1279 hey butkus can get as big as he wants it don't matter because he runs at the speed of smell. There is no weight program like you say to make Dick fast enough to play in todays football. You are right players back the did'nt have all the weight programs back then. All I'm saying the way Butkus was back then would not come close to keeping up with the game now. Offensive lines today would steamroll him.

  • If you're as sick of Roger Goodell as I am, there are several online petitions you can sign for his removal as NFL commissioner. Just Google "Petition to remove Roger Goodell."

Before defensive players get 15-yard penalties and $250,000 fines just for looking at the opposing quarterback.

  • i want to have sex with this man.......and im not even gay

  • 1:29. Forget helmet-to-helmet, he's trying to crack his skull in two. And if they were to fine him, he'd probably just try to hit them even harder, even more often.

  • Back when killing was legal in football.

  • Dick Butkus should be commissioner of the NFL.

  • @unofficialchhs I like that idea. Goodell sucks. Not even real football anymore

  • i would of love to watch butkus play but o well at lease we got urlacher

  • Boy, it is sooooo amusing to read a bunch of comments from fat 60 year olds who lived vicariously through this meat popsicle back in the day. Makes me glad to have been born after all this, in the era when Butkiss was just a brain-damaged sports commentator with delusions of a political career. Thanks for the lulz, old timers.

  • @bogslug We are glad you were born after this era too, chump....you'll be one of the ones paying for our social security. Now, go tell your mama since you likely still live in her house.....and next time YOU push the grocery cart around Wal-Mart and give her a break.

  • @possumtail Hmm... so which one is it... am I a jobless loser who still lives with his mom or am I an employed person who pays for your social security? I realize all your high school football head injuries had addled your brain, old man, but you should still have enough active neurons to lob a consistent insult at someone.

  • @bogslug I just figured you worked at Dominoes or something....sorry about that....you'll find something. I'm 46 so there's still a little while before I can collect from you, anyway. And usually miserable cynics from the lost generation are better smart-asses than the tripe you just posted....surely you can do better. Now, go back to playing your video games and get back with me later when you come up with something.

  • i bet the three people that dislike the video are the people that got leveled by dick butkus

  • Penis Buttkiss. the greatest linebacker of his time

  • god if he had those pads against teams not they wouldint be injured despite what he did on the field id still like to meet him i wanna play c linebacjer and have 51 because thats a great postion and i can run fast and the fasster i go the bigger the hit

  • Holy shit. He leveled Morgan Freeman.

  • @raterroyale brilliant!

  • @ThePretzelHead Ha seriously. I can totally picture Morgan Freeman being like "I wish I could tell you Dick Butkus didn't hit me and make me piss myself. I wish I could tell you that."

  • @raterroyale AWESOME LOL. But football is no fairy tale world. I never said who did it, but everybody knew. Every once in a while I would show up in the excercise yard with soiled trousers......."

  • If limp wristed liberals and pussy democrats had their way all these vids about Butkus would be taken down and replaced with Martha Stewart.

  • @jazzgent you're a fucking idiot if you truly believe that.

  • @cubbies6 Thank you for your post. Upon reflection I will have to stand by my statement.

  • Only guy that compares to Butkus is Taylor. Thats how good Butkus was.

  • I'm an old time Viking fan. I have nothing but respect for this guy. Loved the way he played the game. He was a dominating force EVERY time the Vikes played against him. ALWAYS in the backfield on running plays, and ALWAYS around the ball on short passes. Guy was unbelievable.

  • Butkus was Chicago. He was raised on the southside and embodied the spirit of the city. We need to get that back because the 2009 Bears are weak.

  • What is so cool about him is hes a real nice humble guy...off the field...not this ape they make him out to be

  • thats funny cause the first time i watched rocky i was like aaaa dick butkus the dog. I had no idea that was kind of the real story

  • The 2 most intense players I've ever seen on a football field are Butkus and Jack Lambert. Absolute animals on the field who didn't just want to make a tackle, they tried to bury the guy. These guys took on ball carriers and QBs head on, while head hunters like Tatum were usually going after exposed receivers preoccupied trying to catch a pass.

  • @bailinnumberguy . Yea, but Butkus took on running backs at full speed. Jack had the Steel Curtain to slow them down and he would finish them off. Likewise, Butkus played Middle while Lambert played outside.

  • @bailinnumberguy Yea thats all nice and cool but they couldnt make in the league today. The game is way too fast. Different era. Back in Butkus day olinemen averaged 250lbs now in day the league is full of WR that are 240 plus not mention 330lbs plus fast olinemen of today. Jack Lambert was good in his day also but in todays game he would be too undersized and slow. Also they couldnt cover Vernon Davis, Gates, Witten, or Gonzales if they wanted too and prob a get ran over by Jackson or Jacobs

  • yeah man... everyones related to everyone these days... he's 66 by the way dipshit

  • Maybe the best Defender of the 20th Century.

  • I met Butkus when I was 12 yrs. old in Canton Oh.I played linebacker and was a huge fan. I met him at a dinner at Topps Chalet. He took the time and asked me all about my team and myself. Before I Ieft, He gave me his address and encouraged me writing to him which I did. For several years afterwards I received letters and pictures from him. Call me old school but I still think Butkus was the best.

  • that's because he was.

  • In my opinion, he IS the best, EVER !

  • Butkus was in a class all by himself. I'm sure when he couldn't play any longer, he felt as tho a part of himself died. You're lucky to have met him. I miss that old NFL style. Todays players might be better athletes, but they are not better football players.

  • Im a senior in high school and i play for my school. I dont treat any player special. Football is a violent game. Knock the holy hell out of them and send a message.

  • The good old days of football before they started treating players like China Dolls and fining people for breaking a QB's fingernail.

  • Thank goodness Butkus played in the era that he played in. The NFL of today would practically handcuff one of his wrists behind his back and force him to play two-hand touch.

Man I HATE the wussification of the modern NFL.

  • amen brother, watch any 85 bears highlights and youd see that more than half of the good licks they put on QB's would get flagged in todays game. You can't make special allowances for any one player on the field. Todays QB's are basically untouchable now theyre asking defenders to slow down and "not hit below the knees" or anywhere "near the head." WTF! i guarantee you every other player on that field offense or defense is getting hit on every play. why are pussies like tom brady special?

  • exactly i love people who play like butkus

  • @threeby8887

The guys are all bigger, stronger, and faster than butkus these days. They'd all kill each other if they played with this kind of aggression.

  • @threeby8887 hahaha the NFL today is comprised of only the people who were tough enough and good enough to get there and it is REAL hard and tough to make it in the NFL you really need a passion for the sport if you don't believe me look at the special team players. Look at the Oline and Dline go at it they do not stop until the whistle and there is plenty of trash talking.

  • @threeby8887 Yes because we really need him to accidently kill another player. When youre the one who has to live with your body after playing on Sundays you can decide how hard you want to be hit. Either way Butkus was an unstoppable force, ive seen him take on two blockers before dropping the runningback for a three yard loss.

  • @bandoftreats What are you talking about? Butdus DID NOT KILL Chuck Hughes. Hughes already had heart problems; they first became noticeable stemming from a preseason game earlier that year with Buffalo.

But I am sick of Roger Goodell and his attempts to take defense and hitting out of the NFL.

  • @threeby8887 Its not that they hit hard they hit stupid. Look at Ray Lewis he never gets called for flagarant hits but the man can jack you up its these stupid hits like the one Dunta Robinson did on Desean Jackson. Do the sometimes over do it a bit, yes. Sometimes theyve flagged guys for tackling into a guys head when it was really the runner's fault for moving his head in the way. Noone needs to have unnecissary permanent brain damage for the rest of their life and its stupid you support that.

  • @bandoftreats What I support is FOOTBALL, not this two-hand crap Goodell is trying to turn the NFL into. I'm certainly not going to be spending my money on NFL merchandise or adding to their TV ratings, not until Goodell resigns or is booted out on his rear end.

I also don't want players suffering brain damage. That's why they need better helmets and mouthpieces.

  • @threeby8887 Say what you want to say about the pussies of the nfl today, but they would knock the ever living shit out of butkus today. Why do you think there is rules today on how you can hit and how you can't hit? New rules are made because players are bigger, faster, and just plain more atheletic. I agree that butkus was tough as shit, but for his era. I loved watching butkus play in his time but today football he would be just a bench warmer at best.

  • @kojak235 I never said that today's players are wusssies, just the current commissioner and some of his assistants.

  • @threeby8887 Sort of have mixed feelings about a lot of these things.

However, he was wrong at punching Flanagan.

Gosh he was only doing his job as well.

  • @MIKECNW True, players shouldn't be punching each other or taking cheap shots at one another. But there's nothing wrong with lighting someone up as hard as you can.

  • @threeby8887 yet they sell dvd's with big tackle hits.

  • 6400az got it right.

Butkus is the beast on the field.

LT is the one creating trouble and shit.

Dick Butkus is the greatest LB of all time. No contest. Ray Nitchske would come in 2nd, but by a mile.

  • If Butkus played today they would forward his game check to the commissioners office.

  • toughest meanest football player to strap on a helmet. this guy has all my respect and im just glad i didnt have to run the ball against that animal

  • I wish Urlacher played pissed like Butkus did.

  • Urlacher would have 20 Quarterback sacks ever season to go along with his 200 tackles every season.

  • If Urlacher played outside LB, the would no doubt get shit tons of sacks. In our scheme he won't get any, b/c he is always asked to cover. He does get lots of pics for a LB.

  • The difference between Butkus and Lawrence Taylor is: Taylor is full of shit. Whereas Butkus would knock the shit out of you.

  • I just wanted to post a text about Butkus and football, but I have no idea where the current posts are going!!!

  • Butkus was a maniac. He would be run out of today's NFL the way he played. I really think he wanted to absolutely destroy people.

  • If he played today, with current rules, then he'd be regarded even higher than he already is .

He played amazing ball for Illinois, too. He's known for his massive hits, but DB got 18 sacks in 1967; he had 22 interceptions - and that was working a bare cabinet, because nobody would throw to the middle when he was there

No, if he was playing today, 1 his knees would be fine, 2 he would be able to play a lot longer.

He would be totally dominant now, just like then.

  • u could put two blind dogs in a cnoe and shove them out to sea with a bone in their asses..and some dumbass would figure a way to bring up race...wtf ...And I agree WTF does that have to do with Dick BUtkus....or Isreal or my left nut on a friday afternoon ....

  • Thanks for giving me a laugh on a Monday Morning Dude LOL !

  • Using up all three time outs at the end of a lost game just so he can hit the other team three more times is awesome.

  • honestly, you see reggie bush walking off the field after dick butkus levels him in the chest?? damn. i'd give a foot to have a player like that back in the game,

  • butkus would kill bush!

  • Bill George was the All-Pro MLB for the Bears when Butkus came in as a rookie, George said on the first day of practice he knew he lost his job.

  • i loved football back in the old days, butkus was the toughest guy out their and he will tear the living shit out of any nfl player today

  • Butkus played with a ferver that no other player could match. He really did want to dismantle an opponent limb from limb.

  • Butkus gave the game 110%. There are plenty of talented LB's. But he was the most ferocious. Offense's would have nightnmare's about facing him and da bears!

  • where did u hear that, because im pretty sure its not true. He left games because of injuries but not because he was slow or out of shape

  • 1:36....sounds like Morgan Freeman.

  • HAHA!

  • this is when footbal was at its best... in the 60's and 70's.... and theres no doubt in my mind about that

  • yeah ppl these days are faster and bigger

  • Yes, they are bigger and faster...but not tougher.

Ask yourself...do you back down from someone because of size? If so, you live in the dark my friend.

It's your heart and wits, that make men.

These past atheletes were true grit and little on substance abuse as to steroids. Some did speeders but not nearly with the same affect.

Most did not, for they played the game right. With mental and physical toughness.

We have some of those guys now, but very few. Most wouldn't of made the cut.

  • Money makes a huge difference.

When you've got guaranteed money waiting for you, and it all but forces the team to keep you in the starting lineup, you don't have to be as tough. And why should you be? You've set yourself for life. You'd be a fool to cripple yourself and not be able to enjoy your money later.

When you make what the old generation made, it wasn't much, and it wasn't guaranteed. It was be tough, play through the injury, or lose your spot, and maybe your job.

  • Whatever. Important traits that a man has to have to have if they want to pass value on to others in America. A white woman or a person who supports Israel.

  • What the fuck are you rambling about ! ?

Israeli girls are hot though, but what does that have to do with Butkus hitting you so hard that a bubble comes out your nose!

  • Whose his wife?

  • Dorksaywhat?

  • Robert Marvin Hull. He could be your daddy?

  • I was a Rams fan during the late 60s early 70s and I remember Roman Gabriel the Rams QB, who was about 6'5" and what, about 225lbs(?) being "whipped around" like a rag doll in a pit bull's mouth, when Butkus got to him. Butkis was the "baddest ass" ever to stap on a helmet. He gave the "Monsters of the Midway" their original meaning. Mike Singletary and Brian U gain all of their inspiration from #51. Deacon Jones called Butkis "a maniac". That is how feared this player was! Long live the old NFL

  • The greatest linebacker of all time plain and simple

  • @pgraybengal Nope thats LT followed by Ray Lewis. Put all those old time guys in the game today and they woudnt make it

  • @hitek9wittafulclip Actually, Butkus would probably injure most of the guys out there today, especially the steroid users. They'd pull something, maybe end their careers permanently, while he'd be pacing the field, looking for another face to rip off.

  • G.O.A.T at his position. He had what every football player needs, ferocity. The man ripped every single player he ever hit a new one. Charlie Sanders is one tough dude to take a hit like that and, you know, live.

  • da bears. da best.

  • hes my bf's distant cousin. good man.

  • Haha love the tackle at 14sec into the video. The guy dosent even have the boll but butkust just throw him around like hes a doll

  • He is da man. LITHUANIAN POWER. Everyone Lithuanian are so strong like this guy. I proud to be Lithuanian. He is fuckin AWESOME!

    My name is Deividas. Lithuania.

  • u should be proud of the country and the Man. Best MLB ever.

  • awesome player... how everyone should play the game

  • eeeevvvvveeeerrrrr!!!!!!

  • my favorite player of all time and da best linebacker ever!
