i think this report is mainly about elementary school kids. i mean, when you're in middle school the teacher tells you, if you dont do the hw, a failing grade will result. elementary kids dont really get that and need to be pushed. i also think that the amount of hw students get is ridiculous. im in 11th grade, i know how it is.

ok idiots, listen, hw sometime can pe pointless in the lower grades like year 7 to year 10. But in year 11 and year 12, hw is necessary to be able to do well in test. Think of it like practice, the more you do, the better you are at them. Also, doing hw doesn't mean you can't play sports or game, i play soccer and i play in the NSW league and still owning up people in math in my school, a friend of mine got 95% average in all of his subjects and he's our school's basketballs team ace.

As it turns out, kids like me get 50% more homework then our parents, and have over 100% higher expectations. Im In 8th grade and I get 2 to 3 hours a night, and Most of the time i have to carry all my books home. Thats 35 pounds if you dont count the 5 subject workbooks for every class. Yes, I can't remember anything I've researched for my essays in college. But in college at least there's a reason to do homework. I think what makes it worse is we put our kids through 8 hours of school every day forcing them to learn stuff sometimes they don't want to learn or can't. Then they go home for another 2 hours of home work.

That only gives them 4 hours on week days of free time not counting time spent on dinner, chores, and hygiene. Its way too much pressure on kids...

Actually, it has been proven that assigning homework and grading students on performance actually creates a more negative outlook towards learning and decreases motivation which in turn makes it harder to remember what they have learned. The simple solution to homework is to try and take as many AP classes as possible. They usually have a lot less homework than normal classes. Instead, the class assignments themselves are harder, but I excel in that kind of environment. Otherwise, just don't do the homework. Stand your ground.
