@TheLizardKing1967 No, not really.. Pontiac might had made it. However, naming cars G6 and G8... I for the life of me do not understand who was over marketing at Pontiac. At one time, they were the Sport division of Pontiac. They sold more 77 GP's than any other year. maybe everyone knew they were going to be smaller and that is what drove sales up. Like in my post below I had one, doors very heavy, but when it rained you could here water moving around inside at the bottom of the door.
@metalrod23 You are right, the doors were so heavy they would drop down near the door handle and you are right, you had to lift the door up to get it to close.
1973-1977 Grand Prix........stylish, attractive cars inside and out. Sales increased considerably in '77, the first year the 301 was the base engine. These cars could be even more striking in appearance with available T-tops and two toning.
So regretable.......cars with this type of styling are no longer sold.
@optio4 You are right, 5 years ago I came across a 1977 Grand Prix LJ with 95,000 miles and you could tell it was not 195,000 miles. It had the two toning and velour Buckets. Everything worked even the air was Ice Cold. It had the 400 4 barrel and it would smoke um. I wish I had kept it, The person I bought it from wanted only 2,300.00 for it. It was in my drive way and a older man stopped and wanted to know if I wanted to sell it, I said not really, he offed 5,500.00.I let it go sorry I did
I've got a '76 Grand Prix SJ. For such a big, heavy car, it handles like a champ! It's one of the best-handling cars of its time, in my opinion - far better than Ford's competition (Cougar, Elite and '77+ T-Bird). I've owned mine for 10 years now and it's got 152,000 miles and counting. It gets 17 mpg on road trips, and 12-13 in mixed driving. It rides like a luxury car, and those bucket seats are sooo comfy!
I have a 1976 Golden anniversary model LJ with 56k on it. has some minor body rust and could use a fresh coat of gold paint and new weather stripping around the glass t-tops. Trying to save up for new valve cover gaskets and plugs. Due to caring for elderly parent and being broke it's my daily driver.
This was a beauty, but my favorite was the year before...........the 1976 Grand Prix was stunning! My all-time favorite: the 1977 Oldsmobile Toronado..........SWEET!
If it was the "The most beautiful car in America", well, why did Pontiac downsize it in 1978 and ruin it. No wonder why this GM company went belly up. Way to go Government Motors !!!! LOL
@TheLizardKing1967 I remember the disappointment I felt when I saw the downsized Grand Prix. It was butt ugly! Previous Grand Prixs had curves and style. The downsized Grand Prixs looked like a cereal box.
Yes - shes burned into my memory: the girl in the red dress, standing in front of the Pontiacs at the end commercial and says "you got it Pontiac". WOW - I still want a Pontiac!
my dad remembers this commercial. he had a silver one, and i have a black one. i wonder if i can find the commercial in color. any other gp commercials??
If it was so great in 1977, why did Pontiac downsize the hell out of it in 1978. mmmmmmmm
