Honestly, this is the best version ever for me. Maysa say a few things wrongly and Jacques Brel never makes me cry. Mireille, herself, she feels every word, she cries with the music, she's absolutely fantastic. Of course, she's no Edith Piaf (which I love more than life too), but it doesn't mean that she isn't a good singer, because, my darling, if you think so, you're absolutely insane! When I was dragged to an Edith Piaf tribute a few years ago, a pal downloaded a bunch of her songs so I could familiarize. THIS song by THIS gal was on there. I thought it was Edith. It's the ONE song I LOVED on that CD. I read Piaf's bio, I searched her discography...At last! It was Mireille! Sinatra, Nina Simone, Cyndi Lauper...Many have covered this Jaques Brel tune. She was singing, probably, "Une Femme Amoureuse", based on her outfit. My uncle, who had spent time in Europe, told me that she was the most famous singer of France at that time. Listening to Mireille's songs is like reliving my teens. Also, I don't speak French fluently. I use French songs as a way to improve my French. Thank you for sharing her songs.
