  • locking up terry-check

    helping out on antoine wright-check

    contesting dirk's jumper- check

    all in one possession.

the haters can eat a dick.

  • terry almost broke kobe's ankle so kobe got mad :)

  • Michael Jordan is the greatest defender of all time! Watch his videos, his lockdown defense are always followed by a steal. Marvelous!!!

  • If kobe chooses to play defense its locked down defense

  • Kobe has gotten old now ... thats why the Haters are taking advantage of talking shit about how he has been playing ... there not thinking about Kobe from his prime ... they are forgetting the kobe who has made 81 points, 65 points, 63 points, and many more in just one games :D ... KOBE = 1 of the GREATEST player in the World

  • That's how you force a player from going to their strong side force them the other way!

  • One of the greatest on-ball defenders. Thats what i call an all round player

  • i bet terry was a pump fake or ball fake too break kobes ankles but he didnt catch it cause he did make him trip up at 0:05

  • you couldnt do this today kobe?

  • @mrcapslock07 kobes defense here is great. no foul. no handcheck. clean. great. terry had no where to go. textbook D.

  • @mrcapslock07 no handcheck fag

  • @radius34 your an idiot

  • @facepicker I said that when I was pissed of. When the lakers got sweped by the dallas mavericks. His deffense is overatted and if you watched the dallas-lakers series then you can agree with me that his offense is as well. Get a life kid.

  • Dude, kobe just rapes Terry right there!!.. damn man,, he should go to jail for that,, doing it on front of 20,000 fans plus a few million watching it on tv? I think i would love to see kobe averaging about 17-20 ppg, but spends some energy on defending people.. he could make paul pierce score only 5 points,, he would make lebron score only 8-10, wade 8-10 points,, but kobe needs points like glucose,, he would probably commit a suicide if he finds out he is averaging 18ppg for a year lol.

  • who the fuck is Rick Kamla?!

  • Kobe is an overrated defender... he always guard the opposing teams worst player to "conserve his enery" .. u see in the finals he was guardin Rondo so he just sagged off him, he didnt even have to try..

  • @MyCockIsNotForYou maybe it's cause rondo has no jumpshot, so he can give him space. Rondo is also very quick so it makes complete sense to give him space so he doesn't just blow by you. Kobe was still there best chance defending him.

  • @MyCockIsNotForYou thats because he is slower laterally these days than 2 years ago; can he still have defensive lockdowns? yes ~ they just won't happen all that much, which is the Phil tries to keep him fresh on offense (where he has also gotten slower)

  • @MyCockIsNotForYou Kobe isn't necessarily overrated on defense, he's a very good defender. The problem is that he roams when he doesn't think his opponent is worth staying on..

  • @MyCockIsNotForYou he guards the worst player so he can help on everyone else. if you paid attention to the game itself and not who he's guarding you wouldnt sound like an idiot talking out of his ass.

  • I love how the tittle says "FOR ONE POSSESSION.

  • @animebrawler ........you're an idiot

  • Were Gonna watch this on dec 25 Vs That Gaytrio

  • @greenpickles16 You must be confused. It was Wade doing that to Kobe throughout the game. And not on just one possession.

  • @animebrawler okay u tell me that like what 1 week later stfu

  • thats what i call defense

  • thats is true defence a lot of people think defence is all blocks and steals its not its all about staying with your man and not giving him any room to do anything

  • kobe said. "show me yo dribbles little nigga"

  • whats the song called on the kobe defense close up?

  • Comment removed

  • this video is exactly why i would never ever ever consider lebron as a defensive player of the year etc

  • @tom69pl agreed

  • ill never forget how kobe erased allen iverson in his prime in game 4 and 5 that wus incredible defense he had like 10 blocks and 6 steals in those games

  • An excellent fundamental defensive stance, good quickness, great hands. A this motherfucker is not beating me' attitude. A good ability to keep a man from getting to his spots, and denying him the ball. that is kobe bryant for you..

  • i agree that was good defensealthough you should pause at 0:15... jason terry was un aware that nowitzki was ready for a pick and pop, nowitzki would have had a good chance of knocking down an uncontested three, but instead he was left with a tough off balance shot which was missed

  • willsmackyoudown is a dumbass

  • defense list?? Top 20? Nope. Top 50? Maybe if hes number 50

  • NO I;m not a kobe fan and even I'll admit at the very least he's top 10 (all nba 2nd team)

  • @fhumnagads 2nd team? lol ur a clown

  • @gfunkgfunk lmao DIDDO

  • i wish that play went longer

  • ""Oh Iam Getting Exicted On This One"" LOL

  • not the super MOOOOOO

  • danggg Kobe :)

  • This is why kobe is the best in the league, lebron and wade dont have the perimeter defense that kobe has.

  • because terry is an enormous threat off the dribble. hes been the greatest player on the mavs for some time

    /sarcasm

  • Let's be honest MikeWill, Kobe doesn't play this hard on every possession. LeBron and D-Wade are also great defenders and finished 2nd and 3rd in DPoY voting last year.

  • Well yea but Im from Cleveland and I watch Lebron all the time Lebron gets his chase down blocks n everything but he is one of the laziest perimeter players I ever seen, he cherrypicks and Ive seen nobody's give Lebron buckets. As for Wade I seen him get blocks and he does it well for somebody 6 4 but dnt really know much abt his perimeter d

  • LeBron's lazy on D? Are you serious?

    /watch?v=LRYos3qP5u8

  • He's not necessarily lazy but LeBron just not dominant on both ends of the floor like kobe is, sure LeBron gets his chase down blocks well and everything but im tellin Lebron perimeter defense is not so good in my eyes. So are you telling me Lebron is a better defender than Kobe?

  • I think LeBron's a more consistent, versatile and better overall defender. His help defense, ability to play the passing lanes and prevent easy layups is unmatched.

Notice how Mike Breen says "boy it's fun to watch when he wants to do this". That means he doesn't always put forth the effort every night.

  • And Ive seen Kobe guard the best players in the nba well

  • You gotta a good point but my whole point is that I think Kobe's the best cause he can score on everybody and can guard everybody, even though I think LeBron is on Kobe's tail and LeBron still has to prove to me he has legit killer instinct like Kobe has and bring us a championship.

  • mike took plays off dwade and lbj are below average on ball defenders

  • Michael Jordan is the only guard in NBA history to accumulate 100+ blocks and 200+ steals. He did it twice. He was selected to the All-NBA Defensive 1st Team 9 out of 13 season and won a Defensive Player of the Year award. As far as the '91 Finals, the job of a defender is to make a great player work. Magic was going to get his stats regardless.

  • blocks are good timing and athletism come on he was the best athelete at the 2 in his era and probably the second best in the league behind clyde steals so what AI got alot of steals he was a terrible on ball defender thats playin passing lanes like cris paul. lastly he got (jordan) destroyed in game 1 thats y they put pippen on magic

  • The Bulls put Pippen on Magic because of his length, not because Jordan couldn't defend him. A great player is going to get their stats no matter who you put on them, the only thing you can do is make them work. If you think Jordan was a "terrible on ball defender" then you're an idiot.

  • i never said mike was a terrible on ball defender he was a really good on ball defender all i said and meant was steals dont prove ur a good defender

  • You guys on crack. You have no idea how bigger players were back then. You think Lebron is big well Bird and Magic were the same height both 6'9? So you tell me how a 6'6 MJ is suppose to defend Magic Johnson who backs his players down? Nah shit you are going to put the bigger man on Magic which is scottie. Scottie was a better one on one defender than MJ but MJ perfected help defense. Second all time leader in steals and has the most blocks for SG in NBA history? Where is kobe on the all time

  • starting in he 90's til now players are bigger and more athletics...than the 80's down...

  • wow terry should have just gone after the second cross instead of bring it back... and afterward he could have faked going right and spinned. not dissing kobe or anything but it was more crappy offense than good d.

  • he couldn't have gone after the second cross,,,you know why???coz kobe is defending him...

    =]

  • If Kobe didnt carry the offensive burden he has, can you imagine him FULLY COMMITED to D? Man... he'd be worthy of a DPOY award... no doubt.

  • we all saw what he did in the olympics when he commited himself to defense

  • Kobe has the energy to play great offensively and defensively EVERY night. The fact that he doesn't do it is simply by choice.

  • he almost broke his ankle if he woulda ran in on his left instead of backing down

  • thats what i call defense. forget the blocks and steals . dont even let your man shoot

  • I think steals and blocks are only worth notice if a player is playing good/great on ball or post D. Dwight Howard is a great weak side defender but his post defense doesn't compare to Rasheed Wallace's.

  • omg so agree with you

  • He is helping his teammates so much that he is not getting the credit that he desrves . Kobe needs to tell his teammtes where to go. And he is busy redirecting opponents; therefore he doesnt get a lot of chace to block, steal, play one on one D. This makes it hard for him to get DPOY. But everybody know that he is best one to one defender in the NBA. Did u guys c the olympics?

And since he is guard, it is hard for him to block from behind like James because he is too far away fromt he basket.

  • lockdown defense 1 out of every 20 posessions - congratulations kobe! now you can just teach that to your buddy lebron who only likes to play about 1 out of 50 possessions.

  • Kobe is in his 13th year and has been pacing himself so that he'll have enough energy for the postseason. He might not have locked in defensively like this every night but he did a great job when he guarded someone. LeBron is also playing defense. I think it's crazy that he was the runner-up for DPoY but he's a good defender.

  • Ya the media likes to over hype the defense of stars, like a bad kid who finally acts good get's all the treats for doing what he's supposed to. Guys like Battier, Artest, Courtney Lee, they're a few of many who are out there doing that every night. Kobe, well let's just say the Lakers on the whole showed their lack of effort for the fact they went 7 games with Mcgradyless, Mutumboless, Yaoless Rockets squad. I don't think they should be commended for that, and I don't think stars playing

  • defense when they feel like should be heralded as star defenders. Don't get me wrong those guys are very good, but they could be great, Kobe already has a resume Lebron needs to build him. Don't forget about Carmelo he just learned what defense is this year!

  • I don't think LeBron will ever be a great defender. It looks like he uses his body and his jumping ability more than his defensive skill.

  • So why is he even getting DPOY votes? I think that was retarded that he actually finished ahead of Wade. It's all media hype these days. Lebron isn't a lockdown defender at this stage in his career so I don't understand why he's being treated like one.

  • I think it was bullshit that LeBron was runner-up for defensive player too. He didn't even take the challenge of defending Kobe until the 4th quarter in L.A.. "LeBron isn't a lockdown defender at this stage in his career so I don't understand why he's being treated like one". Neither do I.

  • Ur point is very true

and like u I am kobe fan

    but

u cannot say that James will never be a great defender

that is a bias statement dude.

Lebron has everything physcially and mentally to be a great defender

    body, speed, strength, work ethic.

two things that he lacks is footworks and more experience.

But I agree that it was crazy to see LeBron be a runner up for DPOY..

  • That wasn't a biased statement. I really don't believe that he'll be a great defender. "Body, speed and strength" don't have anything to do with defense. Everyone talks about steals and blocks but that's doesn't mean you're a great defender. I think LeBron uses his body more than his defensive technique to get stops. To me, his defense doesn't compare to Bowen, Artest, Battier, Posey etc.. I think he's a good on-ball defender but a great off-ball defender.

  • but how can u say that he will never be a great defender.

he is like 24 and have hundereds of years to develop his defense

Anyone who is 24 in the NBa can have be a great defender in 5 years if he puts his mind into it.

And LeBron improving every year, and how his co. and media talk about his work ethics. I say he has quite a good work ethic, not much as kobe, but I am sure he works hard.

  • I mean LeBron saw how hard Kobe worked during summer. James is going to work hard after he seen that.

and he is already more than good defender. Just isnt amazing yet.

I am die hard kobe fan, and it hurts me to say this.

But I think by the time LeBron's career is over (if he doesnt get any injuries, and lose enormous amount of speed and hops) , he will probably go as the greatest player ever to play in the history of the game.

  • Kobe would have been regarded as the best player of all time, if it wasnt for LB. LB is breaking all the records that kobe broke aganist MJ.

Basketball fans should not say this, but I almost wish LB gets hurt, so that he wont beat Kobe's records. lol

I love kobe, ut I acknowledge LB as a erson who is going to be the best player in 1-3 years. So I think it is really wrong to assume that James wont be great defender when he is already good and has good work ethics.

I mean this is my opinion.

  • Just because LeBron has better stats, doesn't mean he's a better player.

  • Stats do not mean everything

but if u say stat does not mean anything

then how r u going to say kobe is great.

Dude I am a kobe fan, but I am not a person who is blinded and cannot face the truth. The fact is Kobe was breaking all the records out there, perfected his fade away, amazing dribble. and blah balh balh. Now LeBron is doin the same thing, but just a lot faster. Kobe will be in top 5 players to ever play the game in m opinion. and I think he is num 1 right now.

  • But in the end, I just think LeBron will be considered greatest player.

Kobe works his ass off. But LeBron got such a natural born super body that kobe does not have. Look at kobe's rookie year to Lebrons. I have to admit, kobe was very immature when he was young. I say he was immature for 3-4 years.

Now considering all that, Lebron will break many shits. People finds this hard to deny. But people jst get better as time pass by. Kobe's records will probably get beat by many players other than

  • LeBron. Probably D wade, carmelo, rose, mayo, durant. Players like that will probably break kobe's point records. Few of them will probably win some rings. And they are young, and they have a lot of time to improve. If u talk about the most dominant player to ever play the game. It is probably George Mikan and Wilt. But do u think they will be good at this time period. NO they wont. People just get better as time passes by.

  • Shaq is NOT better than Wilt and Kobe is not better than Mike. I don't like the G.O.A.T. discussions because a lot of great players didn't have the chance to win a championship or multiple championships (like West, Baylor, The Big O and Wilt etc.) but Kobe has to lead the Lakers to a championship to be in the discussion. I didn't say I was the "smartest person in the world" but for LeBron to be runner-up is ridiculous.

  • Certainly championship means a lot

but u cannot win a championship without a supporting cast. So i dont think that factor matters when talking about skill level. Yes I agree that it was ridiculous for LB to be runner up. But again there is a reason why he in 1st or snd nba defensive team and why he was chosen to be a runner up. I might not agree with them completely, but there is certain amount of reason behind it. And for u to say that LB wont be a great defender is ridiculous to me.

  • Who would have though Ben Wallace who was not even drafted to get DPOY 4 times? (I think it was four times)

Again I do not like LB, but i just simply cannot ignore his talent. He is good. He is next kobe. and nobody should say what LB cant do or can do because he is only 24 and has still three more years tilll his prime. I dont know but this is what i believe:

  • Lb is 24 and has tons of potential, i dont understand why anyone would say he wouldnt be a great defender. I understand arguing about him being runner up for DPOY is ridiculous, but to just simply say he will never be good is pretty hard core.

  • I said LeBron is a good on-ball defender and great off-ball defender but he's not on Kobe, Jordan, Rodman, Artest etc's. level.

  • i agree

    but u said that

he will never reach that level

  • Shaq is not as dominant as Wilt. Players who played against Wilt have seen him lift players off the ground while dunking. He was a 7 footer with a turning jumper near the rim and a four foot vertical.

Kobe is not better than Mike. But leave it alone. NO ONE has a real shot at bettering MJ's legacy. He was the last great innovator for the NBA.

Kobe has cemented his legacy as a legend. Only Garnett, Shaq, and Duncan compare now. We have to "witness" Lebron win something before he matters.

  • You also have to know that Wilt played in the era where only like 5 players ruled the league... And he faced Centers that are like 6'5"... Shaq played in the 90's or the "Golden age of Big men".

  • Shaq wouldn't have been able to do what Wilt did had he played in the 60's. Do you understand how much stamina you need to AVERAGE 50 ppg and 25 rpg for an ENTIRE season?

  • stamina? there was no rule for 3 seconds in the paint so Wilt just camped in the post and waited for passes. I'm not doubting Wilt's talents, I'm just pointing out that there was very little competition back then. Chamberlain was one of the very few who could dunk. Most centers were about half a foot shorter.

  • majic is thje best player all time he won finals mvp as a rookie when jabar was hurt could play all 5 positions

  • Magic wasn't the defender Jordan was.

  • could jordan guard a 4 or a 5 ? no wait could he guard magic no in the finals they put pippen on him he played 1-5 well could jordan no as a rookie he was finals mvp before scott cooper or worthy got thier and kareem was hurt jordan dominated a watered down nba

  • Finally, somebody sees the light. Jordan could not guard Magic. Jordan beat a watered down NBA, especially in his last three-peat. Ask most longtime NBA experts / observers, and most will tell you the 80's had the toughest competition.

  • MJs best stastical seasons were in the 80's genius.

    1987 MJ:

    37.1 PPG, 3 SPG, 1.5 BPG, 5 APG and 5 RPG

    1988 MJ:

    35 PPG, 3 SPG, 1.5 BPG, 6 APG, 5.5 RPG

(This year he won MVP & DPOY)

    1989 MJ: 33 PPG, 3 SPG, 1 BPG, 8 APG, 8 RPG

all shooting over .500%. Yeah and that was against he toughest competiition. Those 3 years are better than Kobes entire decade.

  • @willsmackyoudown toughest competition... lmao.. FAIL

  • @sourpatch2009

really? What do you consider tough competition? The toronto Raptors? haahhah EPIC FAIL

  • @willsmackyoudown hahaha.. how about 40 pts IN THE NBA FINALS. or outscoring an ENTIRE team in 3 quarters. just plz shut up, u have no argument.

  • kobes the best..most of the time against other players Terry would of gone past em cuz hes fast.. but not to kobe.

  • there's your MVP right there.!

  • But they're not playing against Cleveland...

  • thats how you play defense...

  • ya it is you idiot

  • Wow!!locking down Jason Terry hes a real Reggie Miller.

  • i love Rockets

    i love yao

  • he's gotten multiple all-nba defensive honors dumass.

  • THATS HOW U SHUT DOWN KOBE HATERS....

  • He got his ankles semi-broken at the 6 second mark. Nice defense, though.

  • Thats what you call lock down defence
