I don't know how people came to think she is, but Barbra Steisand wasn't the original Norma. Patti LuPone was, and she OWNS this song. Streisand is good, but she's no LuPone. If you want to see an intense, incredible performance of this song, go watch Patti LuPone. The only reason more people don't know LuPone was it was because she opened the show in london, but not in the states. Andrew Lloyd Weber screwed her out of it.

I can't stand when people compare Glee to the songs they cover. Glee is a great show and they put their on spin on the songs they cover, but of course they're never going to beat the originals. Chris Colfer did this song GREAT justice, but Barbra is a legend. No modern artist can top her, not Lea Michelle, not Chris Colfer or anybody. But if anyone other than Barbra would sing any of her songs better than anyone, I have to say that I would look at those two. They are two absolutely talented artists with bright futures, and I hate to see people trashing them. Would Barbra approve of haters trashing people who idolize her? And btw that "breathy" quality is due to the fact that he sings falsetto. And he desn't have THAT great of a range. Maybe 3 octaves. MAYBE. The highest we've heard him go is an F5 in defying gravity and an E3 in Give up the funk. Now take a moment to think of my personal range. Full i can hit super bass notes. Falsetto: whistle ntoes.

If Lea Michele tried to sing the night queen's aria and totally butchered it but did well for a broadway star, I would still call her on it. Being on TV doesn't mean you get to butcher songs. And I Want To Hold Your Hand was terrible. His vocals even on the album version were shaky at best. Pure Imagination was the first time I liked his voice.

I saw Barbara in 2006 and her voice was SPECTACULAR!! Every artists voice changes with time, and perhaps now she cannot hit some of those glorious highs, but her warmth and intimacy with a lyric is surpassed. IMHO, she's the greatest singer ever. Just my two cents.

Other than that... if he doesn't belong on Glee, why the hell did they create a character just for him, BASED on him?

And he's pitchy not becasue he sings falsetto but because, like most men, his falsetto is horrendously under-developed and so he has no control over it. His character was created because the creator realized he didn't have the horrendously caricatured gay guy in the show. Hence; Kurt.
