  • So is this just a permanent thing now in the winters, or a one year thing? Just during the "day"? Just for a couple weeks to boost OJ sales in Inuvik? Seems like it'd be damn expensive to keep it both lit and inflated in a sub-zero environment for much longer than that, but also kind of a pointless tease to do it for much less.

  • 0:23

"Oh, it's the su--FUCK IT'S THE GODDAMN SUN!"

  • incroyable

  • The Canadians were average fighters... but they were BRILLIANT scientists!

  • Tropicana doesn't just make orange juice; they apparently also make the source of all life as well

  • I remember that day,

my mom wouldn't let me go to the school to see the Sunny D ball becouse ''it was to cold'' (<= according to her) but it was actually a warmer year in Inuvik (you try walking to school everyday in -49 weather in the year of 1900-2008 (for me it was only 2004-2008)) IT WAS ONLY -32 IN 2010

Instead she forced us to stay home, watch Clouldy with a chance of Meathballs (rented), and eat crappy tasting KFC.

  • This is what power is.

The ability to make change, out your own will.

    And this is Power.

    Inuvik.

  • The town is Inuvik, NWT, Canada!

Come on by for a visit sometime

  • The power of the sun.. in the palm of your hand.

  • one of the coolest videos ever!

  • I'm in Inuvik right now. The houses 4 seconds into the video are across the street from my hotel.

  • cool

  • Let's hope, they left the sun in place when they left after filming the commercial. :-)

  • Why does a orange commercial make me emotional???

  • @WiltingTree Blame patrick watson ;)

  • Those bastards! I choose to live in the high north BECAUSE it's dark. Quite ruining my winter.

  • yeah fuck you nature

  • I lived there

I was there, on the Commercial

  • Song?

  • @Winterpercussion patrick watson the great escape

  • Best commercial ever!!!!!

  • looked like a nuke from inside the school

  • freaking inuits

  • @freereg29 fuck you asswhole!!

  • beautifull...

  • i like it

  • AWESOME !

  • lol looked like a nuke

  • This is just like the anime "Letter Bee" (Tegami Bachi).

  • 17 people don't make sense.

  • there is so much fucking symbolism in this video its ridiculous

  • Now we won't die in about 5 billion years! Hopefully...

  • I always cry when I watch this!

  • Does anybody now how the helium balloon was lit?

At around 0:16 I can see the light bulbs, they look like halogens

they say the globe provided around 100,000 lumens of light

but used about 40,000-70,000 watts of electricity

its obviously not sodium lighting, hid maybe?

that works about to be ~2 lumens per watt not vert efficient

  • @LY121688 hahaha are you a teacher man? if your not youd be an excelent physics professor :3

  • Corporate America will save the world! I wonder if this pissed off any astronomers, though.

  • The kid's surprise at 0:24 seems much less genuine when you realize they had to set up a camera crew there several minutes in advance.

  • Yay Inuvik

  • This is a wonderful commercial! Very imaginative!

  • Damn.

Now I have to go out and buy Tropicana even though I hate that shit.

  • Comment removed

  • the most positive publicity in the world :)

  • good commercial except that song is about suicide...

  • there are splendid idea, skill, heart and the sun

  • heartwarming.

  • thats amazing and lovely omigosh

  • wow...that shot of the guy on the Skido and it in the distance...it really did look like the sun...

  • hair standing on end

  • Wow This Was Cool

  • Cannes Lions 2010: Oro en Film...

  • cracked.com lmao ballsiest people

  • Reminds me of the manga Tegami Bachi where somehow the sun dies out and they have to make a manmade one ;P

I wonder if that's what it'd be like.

  • people there really do that, for real? or is it just for commercial purposes?

  • @gthmtry they did it just for the commercial

  • Une des pubs les plus intelligente que j'ai vu de ma vie, bravo, ma fille en veux, et en redemande. D'un gars qui viens de ces pays :)

  • Cracked too lol

why the day before the sun comes up... >_<

  • @redvibez Cost less money to keep it lit.

  • Being a night owl my self, I wouldn't give a damn about a free fake sun. But getting free orange juice, I'm totally down for.

  • this made me cry, I'm so proud of the human endeavor, we are so incredible, where, in it's advent, putting a light-bulb in the sky is seems unimpressive, but the concept, of giving an area of the world a great sun substitute, is a beautiful, and thoughtful act

  • @skjamog 1) its* 2) You're thinking too hard about this. It's merely an advertisement. Tropicana wants publicity. There's a reason they did this one day before the real sun appears, less cost. They just care about making money like most companies.

  • @ElDoucho didn't say I was touched by Tropicana's humanitarian endeavors. humanity overall, and I am over thinking it.

  • @skjamog Well over think it somewhere else, you faggot. Nobody here cares.

  • never stare directly at the artificial sun people

  • CRACKED

  • Move to Hawaii motherfuckers. Otherwise, quit wasting so much goddamned energy. FUCK TROPICANA!

  • Thats one of the coolest goddamned things ive ever seen. They brought the fuckin sun!

  • @namdlogd just for the commercial then they took it down and took off. lol :P but yes really cool

  • Comment removed

  • 70,000 Watts, used up day before the Sun comes out after hiding behind the Earth for a month. Now that's using energy in a smart, efficient manner. Good job Tropicana, you're my hero.

  • @hughtub lol, I've got to agree here... people like this are now considered talented singers, when anyone that doesn't have their head shoved up their ass should be able to recognize a sever deficiency in vocal ability..

  • @hughtub you're an idiot

  • @BlueEyes1790 Go watch American Idol or Oprah.

  • @hughtub no thanks, I'd much rather listen to Patrick Watson.

  • @hughtub Sure he may not have a normal singing style, but hell, I like it, so why bother caring if others can sing better. I like it more than a lot of people, probably because they choose to write shitty, completely unoriginal pop/dance music.

  • The best part is when the girl looks again thinking maybe the sun came! and its such a happy moment for them, kinda feels like the old lady is disappointed when she see its not the real sun, but WTF they are gonna see it the next day.

  • yeah, I get it, tropicana is a literal and figurative beacon of light in the darkest place on earth. Neat. Now my question is; Why is everyone looking directly this "sun"? I distinctly remember someone saying that to be a harmful activity. Maybe it's different in canada.

  • This would have been a much better idea to raise it NOT the day before the sun came back for real.

  • the girl in the class rooom was like, huh...WOAH DOUBLE TAKE.

  • Looks more like moonlight than sunlight.

  • Cracked.

  • @sizzle9000 Lol same.

  • @sizzle9000

    Why is this cracked?

  • @therzrking

the 5 ballsiest ways man has replaced nature. cracked.com

  • @sizzle9000 com

  • Everyone who says they'd like to live without the sun is retarded.

  • corperate sponsership or not it looks like it made the Inuvik pretty happy to see a sun again and that's all that matters

  • Because, deep down, we realize our star is the giver of life, warmth, and all that we treasure in our human lives. Many of you will say "Corporate sponsorship," but I say to you- Monuments to the sun have been created by mankind throughout history on the backs of slaves in the name of some false god-king, or pharaoh... How about for once we can look at this and say it was done to bring a smile to people, and a little bit of orange juice.

  • @magog1138 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA "and a little bit of orange juice"

  • @magog1138 I'd rather have a lot of orange juice, not just a little bit. :P

  • I found the fake sun, even more depressing

  • Aww they just ruined a badass town.

I would love to live in a town with no sun for a while.

  • @xXxlifelesssoulxXx For a while yes... Try it for 20+ years...

  • @xXxlifelesssoulxXx wow, you really dont know how horrible it is

  • What the fuck, tropicana, what the fuck.

  • That's awesome!

I mean, of all things to do with your time, making a sun?

    Just... hah, oh, that's cool.

  • What the fuck does this have to do with orange juice?

  • @starwarswinss The artificial sun was manufactured by the TROPICAL fruit producers. The tie between the sun and the tropics is decidedly not tenuous.

  • @starwarswinss It tells you at the end you retard

  • bad ass

  • It looks more like a moony night, but they tried, right?

  • that's nice of them but why would they do it the day before the real sun comes?

    oh and song name?

  • I really like this commercial pub, that's so sweet , I love the song and the people are so cute (L)

  • I've been there!! :D Haha I went up on an exchange for the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.

  • i love this

  • Awesome! Everyone loves OJ in the morning lol, Yes I am Inuvialuit = Inuit and live in Inuvik and I think this commercial is cool!

  • haha i live there!!

  • @42wintergirl

so what do you think about this :)

  • what is this song?

  • I adore this commercial...brought tears to my eyes

  • Does anybody know the name of this song???

  • @Hatch197 "Great Escape" by Patrick Watson. He's one of the best songwriters out there today... check him out, you'll fall in love.

  • @colonelforbin117 Thanks and i did fall in love, my mom is going to use it for a trivia question in a few weeks and she wanted to know the name, because this is her favourite commercial!!!!!

    Thanks again!!!!

  • this commerical always makes me smile

  • i love this commercial, i love this song.

  • Same idea as Danish artist Olafur Eliasson's incredible 'The Weather Project' at the Tate UK in 2003.

  • this commercial made me smile...there a certain beauty to it

  • Beautiful video- lyrics- great for the heart.

  • horrible comercial, llevarles jugo empaquetado les ilumina la vida? por lo que pude leer no es una ciudad tercermundista, bueno en fin.. este mundo va en franca regresion..

  • irrtating song

what a strange way to promote juice

  • I would ahve freaked out and think the russian nuked the north pole

  • Zorica12, if you want to be truly accurate, almost all 'Inuit' in Inuvik are Inuvialuit - they're a mix of Inuit and Nunatamiut (an Alaskan Inuit group who migrated eastward in part due to the possibility of fur trade with the Hudson's Bay Company). The Inuit in the area and the Nunatamiut intermarried and are now known as the Inuvialuit. Inuvik also has a sizeable population of Gwich'in Indians, whose traditional range extends from northeastern Alaska across Yukon into northwestern NWT.

  • SONG : Patrick Watson - The Great Escape

  • What is the nams of this song????

  • love this commercial!

  • what is the name of this song??

  • @2300176 its called The Great Escape by Patrick Watson :D

  • @356360 thank you! you rock :))

  • @flowersfmd lol thanks! :D

  • :') love it.

  • Hey quaaaark, We dont know the name of that person who invented the wheel but we do know who henry ford is.

  • AWESOME

  • ripped off idea, just search on youtube or google: my sunshine uzunovski . He is an artist who is developing this idea for years and now some money making juice company wants to make commercial for its own benefits by someone else ideas!

  • @quaaaark It's called capitalism. That's what we do, baby!

  • This commercial is so sweet ! My prof showed us this in classs & I absolutely fell in love with it!

  • nice try. I'm sure the 400 or so thousand it took to make this commercial would have been better spent on a community center, youth outreach, or woman's causes.

  • @MrGottobeabetterway

And I'm sure the money you used to pay for your internet would've been better spent on a community center, youth outreach, or some other noble cause, too.

  • @eiendeeai touche. you're right, I could do

a lot more with my $40 dollars a month.

  • @eiendeeai Touche.

  • @MrGottobeabetterway From the Tropicana Facebook page: "Hey! Did you know we lit up the Arctic in more ways than one? While we had to take the balloon sun home, we gave 1,200 cartons of Tropicana Pure Premium OJ to the community and worked with community leaders to identify local charities we could support before we left to make things a little brighter for many days to come"

  • Patrick Watson - The Great Escape

  • the name of the song is?

  • what is the song ?

  • Made me smile, Happy St.Patrick's Day.

  • wow..great commercial, great song..ill be adding this one to my list..

  • same

  • i teared up for some reason :')

  • cool commercial, great song!

  • MAN OH MAN I LOVE THIS SONG!!! lol

  • BEST COMMERCIAL

  • Did these people in Tropicana even listen to the lyrics? This is NOT a up lifting song.Great Escape=Suicide Bad day, looking for a way home, looking for the great escape. Gets in his car and drives away, far from all the things that we are. Puts on a smile and breathes it in and breathes it out,he says, bye bye bye to all of the noise. Oh,he says, bye ... to all of the noise. Hey child, things are looking down. Thats okay, you dont need to win anyways. Dont be afraid, just eat up all the gray
  • @naderhk

The way this commercial uses this section of the song doesn't necessarily mean suicide. With the contrast of how they use to feel and now have a sun, it's quite uplifting. Don't you think? :)

  • meh.... says you. thats your interpretation.

  • the best commecial of the YEAR!

  • Artificial sun and artificial flavors....spread to the four corners of the earth.

    Very Gooood

  • @depop2012 Hahaa

  • @depop2012 lol funny haha! nice.

  • That's some good marketing.

  • OOOPS! i accidently pressed the wrong button!!! i meant to press thumbs up! :)

  • how long does this town go without sunlight?

  • @tabletop45 Well because its so far north, that it gets very little sun in the winter. But there is sunlight almost 24hrs a day in summer and never gets truly dark then . Its all to do with the earths axis.

  • @tabletop45: Inuvik goes for one month without sun.

  • tropicana can shoot a video from my backyard if they want to. i could use a few extra bucks

  • mmmmmmmm

  • orange is not a tropical fruit LOL

  • 素敵な企画ですね^^

  • One more reason why we should thank GOD for his creations.

  • โฆษณานี้เจ๋งอะ ทำไมไอ้พวกฝรั่งหน้าโง่มันด่ากันวะ ไม่เข้าใจทำได้อย่างเค้าหรือป่าว มาว่าเนี่ย

  • whoa

is there hot asian chicks there? if there is im going there,...GIGIDDDYYY

  • lol

  • Is this real? Is there really a light that big in Iqaluit? Why isn't anyone discussing this!

  • yes

  • anybody know the name of this song?

  • What's the song called?

  • WTG TROPICANA!

  • Okay kids, now we have to turn off the lights.

  • @golden1101

You try living for that long without sunlight and you'll want to kill yourself. One reason why

Alaska has a high suicide rate. People don't get enough LUX to keep from acquiring SAD. The melatonin build up is depressing, too. So you obviously aren't to bright yourself there.

  • Hey . . .I am not saying that sunlight is not important . . . Do some studies on vitamin B-3 and get back to me.

    This shit is PURELY a marketing ploy . . . PURELY. I don't give a sh*t who likes me or hates me . . .

So . . . Perhaps the money was well spent . . . Okay, I will not dispute that . . . However, many people have lived in that area for YEARS without the help of orange juice. (I had to say orange juice, due to worry of being sued if I used the actual product name)

  • extra!! :)
