This is why people used to say " if you cant play the guitar, play the bass, if you cant play the bass play the drums "

But a Superior drummer needs Superior rhythmic ability, while a Superior gutarist don't need the same superior rhythmic ability, so your right in your statement, we agree in the end :)

Roger Taylor and Neil Peart are both amazing drummers. Roger had a smaller drum set, but could play a variety of instruments. Neil had a larger drum set, and wrote a lot of Rush's songs. I think (my opionion) that neither drummer is better. They are some of the greatest drummers in history.

@JohnRichardDeacon Any instruments has its own challenging side really... and of course playing drums or tympani must know their rhythm and tempo extremely well and also have to learn all kinds of pitched and none pitched percussions, which is a lot. OTL

@JohnRichardDeacon i agree and disagree. id say drums are fairly easy in comparison to most instruments to grasp the basics. However, just as difficult and take just as such skill as any other to master. I imagine the latter was what you were saying anyway

It's impressive how underrated Roger and John are. If Queen didn't have Roger, they would lose at least 40% of the "Queen sound", which is this very "heavy" way of playing the drums (this hi-hat thing, never hitting a cymbal on its own...) and all these high notes in the vocal harmonies. And I'm not even mentionning his songwriting. It's the same for John, by the way, yet most Queen fan don't even know their names. They only see Freddie, and eventually Brian, that's all.

Roger Taylor has always been one of my favorite drummers. This solo is a mother to play. Starts at the kit then to the tympanis to play a tympani solo that would make John Bonham proud! Rolling Stone magazine didn't have Roger in their Top 10 of drummers. He's better than Neil Peart IMHO (no disrespect to The Professor but Roger was a more talented drummer who could also write music, play guitar and bass and sing)!
