@alfcab ~ LaVerne was the genius behind their harmonies and choreography, and she was above any conflicts with her sisters. Maxene and Patty, on the other hand, were another story. They were always at each other throats, right up until Maxene's death.
I love the Andrews Sisters and only from the Abbott & Costello movies when I was a kid. I love this song especially, and this movie (This and Buck Privates). Thanks for posting.
I noticed the change, but it never registered strongly with me. Lawyers, being the grasping, clutching, covetous old sinners that they tend to be, (and I know this from the inside) it would not surprise me if there was litigation. Barratry is the altar the legal "profession'" prays at. Just check with the lawyer that sued George Harrison (My Sweet Lord) for infringing on the Chiffons' "He's So Fine" . Rediculous. But I beleive it was settled for an undiclosed amount.
On one hand one of my favorite songs from an A&C movie. On the other hand, a product of Universal movies not having faith in A&C. The first scene and this last scene were added later. The original movie stared with A&C working in a gas station and ended with Costello in bed, pulling a chord to summon a butler but instead yet another body fell out.
@aSmokersDelightl I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work to this video, I am a young 12 year old girl. I don't collect their series or anything but when I grow up, when 'Justin Bieber' becomes infamous, I will teach all my pupils/students because when I grow up I wanna be a teacher that will teach the meaning of music with this wonderful example :')
@rslkel Dr. Buzzard changed their ending (Amora, ....Amora be mine...) do you know if there was a lawsuit? See them on Dinah Shore (with Sean Connery no less) and performing live more recently.
If you like '40's music and then watch this, you OD in a really good way. Wow--the Andrews sisters--top of the line! One of talents/cultural phenoms that make America great! Couldn't been created anywhere else. And--so American--they gave state side audiences a musical needed boost during some pretty heavy times--WWII. Thankyou Maxine, Patti and Laverne!! A greatful nation.
We seem to be at cross purposes, unnecessarily so. I was actually lauding the Donger's lascivious terpsichorean Pimp-Mastery, particularly the deft manner in which he maneuvered Patty into such a vulnerable and compromising position. But then again, he really didn't have to exert himself excessively, did he? She appears to be almost magnetically drawn to the jaundiced cawk.
old ted lewis , he used to say (is everybody happy) I was in the middle of a nightclub shootout years ago , in those days anything could in some nighclubs just the normal goings on were entertainment enough ,

Theodore Leopold Friedman, better known as Ted Lewis (June 6, 1892 August 25, 1971), was an American entertainer, bandleader, singer, and musician. Lewis's band got cornier and schmaltzier as the Great Depression wore on, but this seemed to match the general public's taste, as he kept commercially successful during an era when many bands broke up. Through it all he retained his famous catch-phrase "Is everybody happy?" .
Aurora comes from Rio De Janeiro She dances in a little street cafe. And when you're down in Rio De Janeiro Here's what you'll hear each Latin lover say. You're a sweet heart in a million Oh oh oh oooh (be mine oh oh) Aurora With your manner so Brazilian Oh oh oh oooh (be mine oh oh) Aurora (be mine) When you smile and call me honey Oh oh oh oooh (be mine oh oh ) Aurora Is it me or just my money? Oh oh oh oooh Aurora (be mine)
These movies were amazing. The world was at war, America had not yet entered the war but it was just a matter of time...hard to believe so many innocent people were dying when these movies were made, but they provide the comic relief the world needed...and needs now but never will see the likes of this again..too much celebrity
@nicksacop you have to remember something the war that is coming is the greatest war the world has ever seen , there will be no comic relief , the comic relief in that time is due to the fact that more people were Godly then, than now , the sole reason we won that war is because of all the praying that went on by wives , girlfriends sisters , brothers and especially mothers , I hate to be doom and gloom ,but like the past , roaring twenties imorality , depression , and then war . look at today
My sister and I watched this movie twice a day for a week on "The Million Dollar Movie" when we were very young. It's probably why she was able to do the lead on a video we took many many years later with all the hand gestures and moves the Andrews Sisters made. It never left her mind.
"Hold That Ghost" is my all-time favorite Abbott and Costello movie, and the Andrews Sisters singing at the end is the icing on the cake. Thanks for a great post.
Lou Costello and Bud Abbott both looked on these girls as if they were their own daughters. Lou Costello was fiercely protective of them at Universal and they were frequent guests at his home for Sunday Dinners. I know this because Billie Abbott, Bud's wife, use to bring them to my aunt's beauty parlor in North Hollywood.
Great number -- The Andrews' at their best! I was living down the street from Gregory Harrison's old theatre in West Hollywood, "The Coast Playhouse". They were doing a thing, "Great Songs from Movies", or something, and I was surprised that this was one of them!
As for yankfan65: Why knock Dick Foran -- he introduced one of my grandfather's biggest hits -- "My Little Buckaroo" at Warners. The song he introd' in an Abbott & Costello, "I'll Remember April", became a jazz classic, and a standard!
Just proves my theory. In Abbott & Costello movies, only the Andrew Sisters should sing.
Great movie and great music. (an exception to the theory is Ella Fitzgeral singing "A Tisket a Tasket" in RIDE EM COWBOY, that' awesome too. But please no Dick Foran etc.)
HOLD THAT GHOST is also my #1 favorite Abbott and Costello film. I love both their performances in this film.

Was the guy grinding on Patty's rather capacious caboose at 1:49 a Chinaman? Way to go Long Duck Dong! Chalk one up for the Donger.

@GeorgeDedaj No not Chinese--but what if he was? Everybody likes Patty.
