  • they are not at the same level...

  • child play?

  • looks like 2 fourth graders fighting over a seat in the classroom. rogan made it sound like he was whoopin mma ass.lame

  • looking for some footage of Josh Waitzkin competing...

  • @cpearson42 me too

  • it's unfair coz if the guy is taller the space between his foot should be lengthened to get the same center of balance as the shorter dude.

but its a good way of testing uprooting skills.... it's not easy to push someone away with a low center of balance, u know?

  • @letshin sorry, not center of balance but same center of gravity, ie at the same relative position as the shorter dude

  • @letshin

another champion that the taller wins

see:Clips From "The 1st World Cup TaiChi Championship 2006"

  • Tai Chi has nothing to do with ego, these competitions are all about ego. Go to the park and practice and stop this nonsense!

  • the guy on the left, his qua is to hard to do any thing with his opponent.

  • it'sgood, not force brut:!

  • Man, why do you have to make a competition out of an exercise to practice Tai Chi? You won't improve your Tai Chi with that...

  • That guy is good.

  • Интересно! Ни разу не видел в таком виде...

  • Esses Japa são imbecis pra caralho!!

  • id like to see more of theese comps with fixed footing this is new to me in comp form

  • All the people criticizing, you really need to put your skills to the test with a non-cooperative opponent. This is what listening, neutralizing, and discharging looks like.

  • how does Tai Chi Chuan defend the nards? Karate, its obvious; all you have to do is "punch" downward between your legs, that way his foot hits your knuckles and not your nuts, however, how do you do it in Tai Chi?

  • possibly the same way. like in any internal martial art, it is not the top priority to learn good techniques. After learning the body mechanics and how to be in a taiji way, your goal often would be to follow his movement and redirect it.

  • Footwork.

  • There are infinite ways in tai Chi, simply get in the state of mind and see what your deepest intuition does. But thoose guys in this video don't really care too much about Tai Chi, but to win an abstract form of competition.

  • @stardingo747: Yeah, the main focus is not on techniques, but somehow, when fighting with tai chi principles, the body seems to naturally protect itself. A knee or an arm always seems to get in the way of any incoming blow to that area, without concious thought, pretty strange actually..

  • speaking of which, I may actually take a trip to Seattle and make it official; students of none other than the Yang family, have a school there, and they offer intensive training to become a certified instructor.

A job's a job, and I seem to be good at this.

  • Probably gonna have to work with old people a lot though; with a Tai Chi certificate I am looking a lot at geriatric care.

I'm cool with it though; I respect "the greatest generation."

only problem is what the hell am I gonna do about the smell...

seriously I hate the stench of nursing homes, and tepid air isn't exactly good for Tai Chi.

  • This is not the real Tai-Chi push-hand, it looks more like a children's game.

  • I personally think 打手 competition should allow 活步. Because 定步 only tests your 聽, but doesn't take into account about your 功力 in 步法 etc.

  • LOL 我 think your 观点是kind of 有趣 but I wonder if 众人 do 懂 your 字眼...

  • oh man...... they have competitions for game like this

  • There are several types of push hands competition. This being fixed step emphasises pushing without using stepping forward like alot of practitiobers tend to do to compensate for insufficient skill.

  • it looks like the foot platform requires more "defined" skills than free-style moving push hands, therefore, interesting to watch. To me, I think sumo is only pushing with force--well, I don't know sumo AT ALL though.

  • Taichi is the exercise of the whole body. This foot restriction doesn't provide the full potential of what taichi can do.

  • it looks like a skinny sumo >> no offense to the art, im a fan myself but these guys are just pushing with force.

  • If ones just pushes with force without purpose then the energy can easily be absorbed. What the actual pushing is doing is attacking the centreline or spine through the locking of joints which in turn uproots the opponent.

  • They have a long way to go...

    Not much tai-chi movement..

  • Tai chi demostrates power dissipation and intent without the need to utilise the advantage of footwork. So on the contary they are displaying high levels of tai chi

  • I agreed this push hand competition has better rules to demonstrate the taichi emphasis on softness.the push hand competition I watched in mainland China looks like wreastling because the competitors can move is steps to compensate for inability to stay soft and balance.

  • taichi80 I agree...the videos I've seen of the moving push hands in Mainland China and HK look more like Shuai Jiao/Tai Chi Hybird. I like watching this better

  • interesting foot platforms, never seen that before
