you should know what Tigran the great said when he saw a lucullus's small army,
he said if these romans came here for negotiations they are too many and if for fighting too few.
next day he was severely defeated and fled from battlefield,in this battle died 10 000 Armenians, the casualty of romans was just up to 20 dead and 150 wounded.
you will learn this moment from Plutarch Parallel lives, biographies of Pompeius and Lucullus,
Tigran the great, first was defeated by Lucullus and than Pompeius the Magnus who changed Lucullus shortly after he started eastern campaign, pompeius conquered Armenia and made it Roman province,he also defeated Georgians and Albans(historical habitants of the territory of todays Azerbaidzan)so how can say in this video at 0:19 min, that Armenia was independent by that time?
I an pretty sure that u'r trying to forge the history

I actually got it Trdat the Great, or as in English Tiridates III of Armenia, yeah he made the Armenians the first Christian nation in 301. I do not know much about him but I am going to read now
Tridates ruled during the time when Greogory the Illuminator was Pope etc....his epic saga was interesting , howe he ordered Gregory to be confined in a deep well for his Christian faith, then he went mad and fled into the forest after murdering those 40 nuns, yo;d think hat these stories were ll made up , but they were true.
I never knew that (although the name Tridates is not familiar to me but I will make some research.) If you don't mind me asking but where are you from, i thought u are Western Armenian since you say Dikran instead of Tigran, but I don't think u are Armenian at all
you don't know about the story of the 40 nuns? King Tridates (pronounced Drtad in Armenian) was not he most graceful of all Armenian kings, most Armenian kings were known as simply being wise even, but he(Drtad) lived during a time when Christianity as a religion was being promoted as even being fought for on the battlefield.
Drtad converted from a persecutor of Christians to a faithful christian (finally) himself -by Pope Gregory the Illuminator in 300AD , this was apporox 100 years before the great battle at Avarair between the Armenian Christian martyr Vartan Mamikonian and the persian heathens who were forcibly trying to convert the Armenian population to their Zorastrian religion.
Tigranes the Great, a son of Tigranes I, ruled from 95 to 55 BC, was a KING OF THE KINGS. he got the title after conquering Persia and took the title from their king. His father's name was Tigranes as well, so 'Artashes the Conqueror' is different person, which I do not know much about, sorry.
Actually in Armenian he's known as Artashes Ashkharagal (meaning world conqueror)...it's okay i'll try to research it on Wilkipedia. I think he preceded dikran the great etc....(ruled before him).btw Armenia had a vast number of interesting kings who were all rather flamboyant in character as Dikran, not like those roman rulers heheh (e.g Tridates pronounced Drtad in Armenian...I get goosebumps when I hear about their history even.
I saw the first half of Battle of Carrae movie, interesting, (the old saying 'curiosity killed the cat' quite fits in well here), his greed got the best of him.
I mean why Artavazd went to Anthony instead of going to Parthians. Anthony was strong, he was ready to war against Augustus but Armo-Parthian armies combined Rome could do nothing about it I think he was a courageous King but not a great diplomat and polititian like Augustus was.
I also wanted to know if this 'Crassus' fellow was the same Crassus who was power hungry driven during the time of the rebellion of the roman slave Spartacus? as in the movie 'spartacus' starring Michael Douglas.
yes he was the same Crassus who defeated Spartacus; however, Pompey claim the victory for his own since he killed the last rebellion.
Crassus was very rich, by today's standards he is one of the richest man of history, but was not good general. He lost the Roman Standard and 35.000 Romans lives including his own when he tried to conquer Parthians. They believed that whoever conquers Parthians would be next Alexander the Great. You souled type here The Battle of Carrhae, to get some more info
say ...waht happened inthe end when one senate or 'person of the senate' or in charge of the treasury commits suicide (in the movie Spartacus)? why did he do that ? was it because he gave out too much of the money away to help out spartacus' wife's while escaping wit the baby etc....
when all hopes are lost and Alexandria is besieged, Cleopatra VII tricks Antony by making him think she is dead. Antony feels he has no chance against Octavian on his own so he kills himself. however Cleopatra tries to make Piece with Octavian. but Octavian wants to Humiliation Cleopatra in Rome to make an example of her. when she relaizes this she kills herself too. Octavian known as Augustus Caesar became the first roman empror. he was the only adopted son of Julius Caesar.
After that Mark Antony meets Octavianos in the ship battle (sorry for not knowing the year, but it's after Artavazd's execution in Egypt). And Mark Antony looses that battle against Octavianious( I think becauses that time Mark Antony was leading Egyptian army and was considered to be trator of Rome) . So, after losing the war Rome against Egypt, either Mark Antony dies in the battle and Cleopatra poisions herself or they both poision themselves because of the lose.
But then when Artavazd figured out it was a trap, greeks brought to him CUP OF SALT AND RING ON TOP OF IT. In that time they considered that to be SWEAR. So, Artavazd thought that No they are not lying and that's why decided to go to Egyp and that's where he got trapped. Basically it was a lie.
If you remember in those times they did propose these kinds of marrages. Which meant that after they grow up to surtain age they ( there is agreement) that they were going to marry each other. This way they used to keep either families or countries close to each other.
When Mark Antony invited Artavazd to Egypt the reason I think was to propose a marrage of Mark Antony's and Cleopatra's 6 year old son Alexander with Artavaz's daughter ( I dont know what her name was, but if Im not mistaking 3 year old daughter, that Mark Antony and Cleopatra pretended that Artavazd's daughter was suppose to be the future Cleopatra).
I think that Artavazd II's strategy was completely wrong. He wanted to be a friend with the Romans and the Parthians. And he couldn't make a clear decision on which side to choose; which is the worst possible strategy because both turned to be enemies. He should have taken sides. Be either with the Romans or the Parthians. I would personally stated the following if I were him: I will remain neutral, but whoever attacks Armenia first, I will immediately sign alliance with its enemy.
If only things were that simple though. Armenia was merely a politcal tool for the two superpoweres to bargain over. If Armenia relyed solely on one of them for protection, she would've lost her independance pretty quickly -which is what happened eventually anyway. You're right in a sense though.
If Mark Antony, blamed his defeat on the Armenians, and King Artavazd II was arrested through treachery, and was eventually put to death, both Antony and Cleopatra paid heavily for this crime and they were both ruined within a short time, with a difference that their death was the most undegnified,a coward's exit from history, whereas the noble deeds of our kings will be a wonderful reminder for us all to be proud of.
As this is such an intellect friendly site, could you please make sure ,when refering to nationalities or indeed countries to make capital letters.i.e.Armenians, Romans, Persians, etc etc.
He died peacefully, at the age of 85, having achieved everything man could hope of achieving, and ensuring his one and only ambition, the survival of Armenia was fulfilled.
You're using the present tense, so are you saying Armenia is CURRENTLY a partof Persia, or was at the time? It wasn't under Persian rule at thhe time of the video, but it was for a period of time afterwards.

Yea, for your information, in this case, at this time, Parthia was the 2nd greatest power in the world, matched only by Rome. At times, Parthia was even greater than Rome.
Thank you for creating and posting this video.Hope to see more of this kind in the future. There was an interesting article in the " The Independent" British newspaper in February 2007 about Cleopatra which included part of our history too, but I suppose you are already aware of this.
Dude, at its peak it stretched from the Mediteranean sea, to the Caspean sea, from the heights of the Caucusus to the Persian Gulf to Asia Minor. How many countries in the world are that big today? And right from its birth, Armenia had competition from huge powers, like Persia, and then Rome and so on.
