I think it's perfectly valid to compare versions of this song. The trick is to do so intelligently. On that note I think this version is much better than the original or any live versions I keep hearing from Stevie. This guitar work has more feeling and Billy's vocal is far more emotive. there's just way more feeling and expression in this version, in my opinion. Plus....it just sounds better/prettier (totally subjective but still a fair comment )

Personally, I find the Fleetwood Mac version boring, Stevie Nicks just doesn't seem very adventurous in that song. This cover brought more of the 'feeling' to the song than Stevie Nicks did, everyone complains about the off-key singing, but I feel thats what makes the song stand out more.

Both the original and this version are beautiful in distinct ways, Different doesn't necessarily mean bad. I think Fleetwood Mac give it more sentiment when she sings it, she really makes you feel nostalgic, but I really love this version too because it recreates that bittersweet feeling this song is intended to give.

Its not actually the smashing pumpkins, this song was recorded in Bills apartment when he was like 16 or 17 and added to a B-sides album that came out after MC&IS. At one point if you crank it up really loud, you can hear a train in the background.
