@thatguyfromthatday yep thats why the Internet is great, so we can post things and give our opinions, honestly I stop having respect for Gibson when the tried to sue PRS over the single cut away design who of course lost.
@LosMt2 Ok, Ill give you that one lol That was pretty stupid. I dont care much about what the companies do, just about their product. :) My preference just happens to be Gibson, everyone is entitled to their preference and I find it immature to go around saying "Fuck this company" blah blah blah
I have an Ebow. It's cool but it's limited due to the fact that you can only play one string at a time whereas with a real bow you can play multiple strings.
That is such an awesome idea. Relatively inexpensive too, no? One of my friends was interested in using an E-bow with an acoustic guitar, but this piques my interest more lol.
I mean it was $800AUS not an Australian guitar btw, just to save confusion. In the end though dont look at a guitars price, play it feel it and listen, you can find some absolute gems for a really good price.
dude, its what you do witht he sound the guitar gives you, i have lots of pickup noise with my first fender, but i still use it because it gives heavy sounds the crunch they need
Hey man i have an epi sg i got for my 16th birthday a few years back.. Its great actually, i have an older one, i think its maybe 8 years or so, its a korean model. The new ones are made in china, and the korean ones were supposedly some of the best made, so look for a korean model. It comes stock with epiphone 57 pickups, i replaced the pickups, a little muddy for my tastes, you might like them though. Other wise not a half bad guitar.
The Gibson owned companies have gone down in quality control, and Gibson in general...you should probably look for a washburn/Ibanez... you would need to go through like 5-6 gibson made/owned guitars to find a good one.

My point exaxctly, i just spent like...1100 canadian dollars to but my new guitar(cost 1500 normally...i got a discount =-D) its a schecter diamond series c-1 semi hollow guitar...fucking amazing guitar...better then an average les paul/sg you find today...hell even fenders now.( if u like fenders i recommend L&G...)
yeah im definately a fender guy, but im actually thinking about selling my paul and buying an ibanez hollow-body and the guy only wants like 300 american for it :D. and schecters r the shit - very nice.
Thats a great buy, 300 bucks? Man you get good deal on guitars over there -_- lol! Yeah schecters are fucking AMAZING! this ones way better then an average gibson/epiphone or Fender/Squire PIECE OF SHIT! (cus they make good quality stuff.... yeah) plus its a hollow body...so it pwns. =D
definately. ive been really dissapointed at how fender's quality has declined over the years. however guitars like Jackson/Schecter/Ibanez/and Washburns have been steadily getting better and more recognized by the pros. and agreed on the hollow body ass kickery.
For sure, those guitar brands are amazing. They got good tone, good sustain...and just plain old fucking awesome! ...once again HOLLOW BODY GUITARS ARE THE BEST!....OH larivee acoustics are good...i think they are usually hand made in quebec.

@holyswordsmanoffaith true, but they aren't solely for those purposes. I don't even worry about that any more, I just use different sounds and pick one that works. Many times I'll be playing heavy crazy fast stuff in the neck pickup, and very slow ballad like stuff in the bridge.

@Valcarion For me, i use the bride for fast 70's to modern day music with heavy, crunchy riffs. The neck is used for more ballad type stuff for me and also blues and 60's stuff (Hendrix, cream...etc)
yeah. i think it's because they were pretty much the ONLY electric guitar company for so long that gibson has had their heads up their asses for years thinking their the shit.
all the while their products have not just failed to keep up with new competitors but have actually gotten worse.
and they are SOOOOO OVERPRICED!

anyways now im tryin out a jackson.
but yeah you pretty much got my point about there being no contest at firt for gibson, and how they arent that great

@donttalktome929 thats the common misconception people have when they put gibson pickups in an epiphone, that its going to sound like a gibson but its not. only ignorant people think that. it all has to do with the wood quality and body construction.
@chrismortloch92 No... the body's are made in the same place, same factory. A mahogany body epiphone les paul is exactly the same as a mahogany body gibson les paul... Only ignorant people think differently.
well, your a fool if you think that, ive seen factory tours. the wood grade is lower and the contruction is sloppier AND epiphones are oversea garbage
@chrismortloch92 Actually, you're a fool. I went to a factory tour last year. They used the same wood. Maybe they aren't hand crafted, but all the mahogany and whatnot is the same grade, exported from the same place. Maybe with the recession they changed it around if you saw it after me, but I doubt it.
no, gibson uses better quality woods. Epiphone uses something called Nato, its a soft hardwood, often called eastern mahogany, it's a step up from plywood, but not as good as actual mahogany. Anyone that bothered to listen during the tour would know that epiphones these days are made from this material, and they have been for a long time. I do believe elitist models are different though.
@chrismortloch92 not necessarily man, the best Les Paul I ever played was an $800 Epiphone. one of the best strat's I played was a Korean squire pro tone, what you are saying is elitist bullshit. I believe Edge plays an Epiphone (not a les paul, a hollow body)and I'm sure he has the $ to fork out for a Gibson if they were so infinity superior.
@Smokinjoewhite If the best les paul you have ever played is an Epiphone, then your just not trying enough man. The early 2000 Gibson models are FANTASTIC. And even now, the 2010 models are doing way better then others. Also, the guitar that edge plays is an Epiphone hollow body because it is Epiphone. Not all of them are cheaper Gibson guitars. Back in the day, Epiphone was the Gibson of semi-hollow body guitars
@Haselsmasher I've actually played plenty and a few great ones, but the Epiphone I played was the best (for my style), I'm not saying the Gibsons are bad guitars by any streach man, I'm just saying you can find guitars for $800 that play as well, and in some cases better than a guitar with a $3000 price tag. The comment about Edge was just letting people that Epiphone doesn't mean a bad guitar and in some cases they are some of the best guitars going. I hate the letter limit.
@Smokinjoewhite If the best les paul you have ever played is an Epiphone, then your just not trying enough man. The early 2000 Gibson models are FANTASTIC. I replied because of the ignorance of your statement, I dont need a gibson les paul over an epiphone les paul to make me feel better, I could care less really - however a gibson is MUCH nicer sounding/feeling.. people who think epiphones are as good as a gibson are just trying to tell themself that because they wish they had the real deal, Lol
epiphone are " the poor mans gibson " and I am not a poor man, therefor I might as well get a gibson right ;) Dont waste your time.
epiphone guitars are not the poor man's gibsons. Don't compare epiphone to gibson like you'd compare a squier to a fender.
Epiphone's been around alot longer than gibson, Epiphone's hollowbodies far surpass anything gibson has or ever will make up to date. The only problem is epiphone no longer makes their original guitars and are making gibson's money makers after being taken over by gibson back in world war 2.
@angel1106 Very true, I play Strats by preference myself, they are the first electric I played and I fell in love with them instantly but recently I was in the market for a Les Paul and played about 30 different Epiphone's and Gibson's and the best i played was an $800 aus white Epiphone , $2000 less than the most expensive Gibson i looked at and played like a $3000 guitar in fact it blew away the $2800 Gibson. although it would be nice if certain shops actually set up their guitars...
@chrismortloch92 we have a Paul Reed Custom 24 and 22 and McCarty here, as well as an original Gibson 70's Black Beauty. Also a Schecter Synyster Custom, as well as an old, High Quality Strat, and a Tele. My Epiphone sounds better than they do, according to our preferences in tone. So your theory is false. Nice try though.
thats bs right there mate, the sound comes from the quality of the pickups, strings, fret board wood/design/quality, and quality, not some crap about the body, i can have a body shaped like someone's ass if i want to and sound the same as a gibson or epiphone
@chrismortloch92 you're totally wrong. EVERYTHING has to do with tone. Wood, body construction, hardware, electronics, pickups, the way one plays it. My Epiphone was made in the early 2000's, and its tone blows my dads Gibson, and PRS', and Fenders, out of the water, so says the 45+ years of experience man himself.
Only ignorant people think tone only has to do with wood quality and body construction ;)
@Valcarion You are so right, the tone is not only the guitar, its also the players fingers and ALSO the gear (patchchords and amps) those add to the tone or take away form the tone.
Ahh, it doesn't matter, really. Tone snobs will always be tone snobs, and an Epiphone, regardless of its quality or how amazing it might sound, will never add up to a Gibson, according to the jackasses who are blinded by brand names. Just as people think fruit loops taste better than fruity-o's. They're the same damn thing, just one doesnt have a name brand, and it costs 5 dollars less!
@Valcarion LOL i like your thinking...but as you see....i wasnt being specific about brand names. If they say elixier path chords are best.....then i try monster cables, or bullet cables or some other company who makes cables..... i test them out, and compare.... i dont just go for the BRAND NAME or the MOST EXPENSIVE...THEN AGAIN its all personal taste.
@extinctpunisher that's exactly what I'm sayin. My Epi has great wood composition, luck I guess, and when I put Pearly Gates and JB-4's in it, it came alive. It's the best playing and sounding guitar in my house, and we have a Paul Reed Custom 24 and 22 and McCarty here, as well as an original Gibson 70's Black Beauty. Also a Schecter, as well as an old, High Quality Strat, and a Tele.
@chrismortloch92 I have an Epi les paul with Seymour Duncans installed, and push pull pots, and according to my dad, who has been playing guitar for 45 years, its the best sounding guitar he has ever heard.
So, you're right in most cases, but not in all. Mine happened to be made exceptionally well, and coupled with the right pickups, it's the best guitar I own, and I'd rather play it than a Gibson
@chrismortloch92 I dont see the point in buying new gibsons, the quality just isn't as good as vintage ones and the price is way too high. I would rather buy from a custom luthier who uses exotic woods.
@chrismortloch92 depends on the sound you want. If you wanna play harder music, my Dinky Pro will outplay and sounds better than any gibson. But if you want a nice creamy blues sound, go with a les paul.
For me though, the Gibson's sound a little more muddy in the lows. The PRS is "tighter". Hope that makes sense. At least that's what I got from the ones I tries (I have a PRS Orianthi myself)
@TheDaedalEVE each gibson is different, depends on whether its quarter or half sawn, the area of the tree the wood came with, I think thats why its hard for me to find that "just right" one
In my case the comparison was between a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 and Gibson Les Paul Custom 1978.
I really liked the PRS a lot more. Then again I tend to like more natural/clean (uncolored) sounding stuff as opposed to softer/warmer (colored) tones, but it seems like a lot of other people are the other way around.
Not saying Gibson is bad or anything like that (so don't feel like you have to be all defensive about it), my original comment was just me teasing. *shrug*
that's actually one of the best efforts i've seen at it in a long time. I think you need to have a little less trebble, and a bit more bass/reverb. But, you seem to have gotten the distortion levels just right. nice job.
are you playing with the neck or the bridge pickup by the way?
@trad3markk Yea I got a bow recently and find using just a little gain is better than a lot of gain, it sounds really good in the flesh so looking forward to doing a direct recording, something i wish everyone would do cos its so easy and a million times better sounding.
Can anyone help? I bought a viola bow and rosin, and iether I'm having a VERY hard time rosining it, or the strings arn't catching. Anyone have any advice?
well this way to play comes originally from jimmy page (and maybe from someone even before him) that made his gibson speaks in dazed & confused...so i won't say that comes from sigur ros at all!!(have you ever heard dazed & confused?!)
Oh hush. Jimmy page will be the greatest living guitar player in my book. All of hard rock is indebted to him, of course. But come on, there's not much of a link between him and Sigur Ros. Let's stop talking oranges at an, erm, apple orchard....
yeah, I gotta be honest, the guy who asked you whether you know dazed and confused would have made me so mad I would have said something of the like. But I agree with you, the beauty of guitar playing with a bow is more of a sigur ros thing.
For you idiots who are yelling at him for saying this, it does sound like crap. That is what made it perfect in Dazed & Confused. he wanted it to sound like crap, all psychedelic and all.
P.S. You should learn how to capitalize hubert1klimt. Is your shift broken?
Um, I had the idea way before I even knew what Led Zeppelin was, (I first learned about them my freshman year in high school.) let alone that the lead singer used his bow on his guitar for a few songs.
I'm pretty sure that it's not safe to assume that every musicia ever is stealing Page's idea by playing the guitar with a bow, or that the idea originally came from Jimmy Page.
What effect pedals's multi effect processors, etc are you using here, cause thats the perfect sound i'm trying to achieve. Also what Amp do you have (if your using that for the effect). Please and thanks.
I'm using a POD xtLive with the most reverb that i could get, heavy distortion, delay (digital), and a VOX amp model. The reverb/distortion/delay combo are key.
Strats and teles are crap for playing with a bow. Sorry mate!
You gotta use a guitar with a high bridge and put loads of reverb and delay on top of a distorted sound. The bow doesn't need to be that tight, but it needs lots of rosin. Lots.
yeah pretty much. But Sigur Ros plays some cool harmony stuff with all the strings lower on the neck. It's a chord of some kind, I haven't figured it out yet.
try dropping just your low E a step to D. then barreing the 3 lowest strings will get you a power chord. idk if thats anything like what you were talking about but i hope it helped
=/ lol
by the way, what kind of guitar is that, where did you get it, and for how much?

Maybe they aren't hand crafted, but all the mahogany and whatnot is the same grade, exported from the same place. Maybe with the recession they changed it around if you saw it after me, but I doubt it.
donttalktome929 2 years ago
no, gibson uses better quality woods.

@donttalktome929
yup.
angel1106 1 year ago
@chrismortloch92 not necessarily man, the best Les Paul I ever played was an $800 Epiphone. one of the best strat's I played was a Korean squire pro tone, what you are saying is elitist bullshit. I believe Edge plays an Epiphone (not a les paul, a hollow body)and I'm sure he has the $ to fork out for a Gibson if they were so infinity superior.
Smokinjoewhite 1 year ago
@Smokinjoewhite If the best les paul you have ever played is an Epiphone, then your just not trying enough man. The early 2000 Gibson models are FANTASTIC. And even now, the 2010 models are doing way better then others. Also, the guitar that edge plays is an Epiphone hollow body because it is Epiphone. Not all of them are cheaper Gibson guitars. Back in the day, Epiphone was the Gibson of semi-hollow body guitars
Haselsmasher 1 year ago
@Haselsmasher I've actually played plenty and a few great ones, but the Epiphone I played was the best (for my style), I'm not saying the Gibsons are bad guitars by any streach man, I'm just saying you can find guitars for $800 that play as well, and in some cases better than a guitar with a $3000 price tag. The comment about Edge was just letting people that Epiphone doesn't mean a bad guitar and in some cases they are some of the best guitars going. I hate the letter limit.

ThexMetalxWithin 2 years ago
I replied because of the ignorance of your statement, I dont need a gibson les paul over an epiphone les paul to make me feel better, I could care less really - however a gibson is MUCH nicer sounding/feeling.. people who think epiphones are as good as a gibson are just trying to tell themself that because they wish they had the real deal, Lol
epiphone are " the poor mans gibson " and I am not a poor man, therefor I might as well get a gibson right ;) Dont waste your time.
chrismortloch92 2 years ago
epiphone guitars are not the poor man's gibsons. Don't compare epiphone to gibson like you'd compare a squier to a fender.
Epiphone's been around alot longer than gibson, Epiphone's hollowbodies far surpass anything gibson has or ever will make up to date. The only problem is epiphone no longer makes their original guitars and are making gibson's money makers after being taken over by gibson back in world war 2.
angel1106 2 years ago
@angel1106 Very true, I play Strats by preference myself, they are the first electric I played and I fell in love with them instantly but recently I was in the market for a Les Paul and played about 30 different Epiphone's and Gibson's and the best i played was an $800 aus white Epiphone , $2000 less than the most expensive Gibson i looked at and played like a $3000 guitar in fact it blew away the $2800 Gibson. although it would be nice if certain shops actually set up their guitars...
Smokinjoewhite 1 year ago
@chrismortloch92 we have a Paul Reed Custom 24 and 22 and McCarty here, as well as an original Gibson 70's Black Beauty. Also a Schecter Synyster Custom, as well as an old, High Quality Strat, and a Tele. My Epiphone sounds better than they do, according to our preferences in tone. So your theory is false. Nice try though.
Valcarion 1 year ago
thats bs right there mate, the sound comes from the quality of the pickups, strings, fret board wood/design/quality, and quality, not some crap about the body, i can have a body shaped like someone's ass if i want to and sound the same as a gibson or epiphone
s7r1k30u7 2 years ago
@chrismortloch92 you're totally wrong. EVERYTHING has to do with tone. Wood, body construction, hardware, electronics, pickups, the way one plays it. My Epiphone was made in the early 2000's, and its tone blows my dads Gibson, and PRS', and Fenders, out of the water, so says the 45+ years of experience man himself.
Only ignorant people think tone only has to do with wood quality and body construction ;)
Valcarion 1 year ago
@Valcarion You are so right, the tone is not only the guitar, its also the players fingers and ALSO the gear (patchchords and amps) those add to the tone or take away form the tone.
holyswordsmanoffaith 1 year ago
@holyswordsmanoffaith damn straight.
Valcarion 1 year ago
@Valcarion LOL i like your thinking...but as you see....i wasnt being specific about brand names. If they say elixier path chords are best.....then i try monster cables, or bullet cables or some other company who makes cables..... i test them out, and compare.... i dont just go for the BRAND NAME or the MOST EXPENSIVE...THEN AGAIN its all personal taste.
holyswordsmanoffaith 1 year ago
@holyswordsmanoffaith exactly. I wasnt saying you were like that at all, I was just talking generally.
I'm right there with ya
Valcarion 1 year ago
@Valcarion I know haha. Its a sad thing how a company gets a name...and then they tarnish it with shitty/ poor made products =/
holyswordsmanoffaith 1 year ago
@chrismortloch92 Its all in the electronics :P and good wood. I think any company can make a guitar as good as a gibson.
extinctpunisher 1 year ago
@extinctpunisher that's exactly what I'm sayin. My Epi has great wood composition, luck I guess, and when I put Pearly Gates and JB-4's in it, it came alive. It's the best playing and sounding guitar in my house, and we have a Paul Reed Custom 24 and 22 and McCarty here, as well as an original Gibson 70's Black Beauty. Also a Schecter, as well as an old, High Quality Strat, and a Tele.
Valcarion 1 year ago
@chrismortloch92 I have an Epi les paul with Seymour Duncans installed, and push pull pots, and according to my dad, who has been playing guitar for 45 years, its the best sounding guitar he has ever heard.
So, you're right in most cases, but not in all. Mine happened to be made exceptionally well, and coupled with the right pickups, it's the best guitar I own, and I'd rather play it than a Gibson
Valcarion 1 year ago
@chrismortloch92 I dont see the point in buying new gibsons, the quality just isn't as good as vintage ones and the price is way too high. I would rather buy from a custom luthier who uses exotic woods.

@chrismortloch92 depends on the sound you want. If you wanna play harder music, my Dinky Pro will outplay and sounds better than any gibson. But if you want a nice creamy blues sound, go with a les paul.

TheDaedalEVE 5 months ago
@TheDaedalEVE all a matter of opinion, I wouldn't say either one is better come to think of it, they each have their ups and downs
chrismortloch92 5 months ago
@chrismortloch92
You're right of course...
For me though, the Gibson's sound a little more muddy in the lows. The PRS is "tighter". Hope that makes sense. At least that's what I got from the ones I tries (I have a PRS Orianthi myself)
TheDaedalEVE 5 months ago
@TheDaedalEVE each gibson is different, depends on whether its quarter or half sawn, the area of the tree the wood came with, I think thats why its hard for me to find that "just right" one
chrismortloch92 5 months ago
@chrismortloch92
*shrug*

Nice LP! reminds me of Slash's Orginal one I think its a 75' or something
chumps613 2 years ago
that's actually one of the best efforts i've seen at it in a long time. I think you need to have a little less trebble, and a bit more bass/reverb. But, you seem to have gotten the distortion levels just right. nice job.
are you playing with the neck or the bridge pickup by the way?
trad3markk 2 years ago 2
Thanks man! I appreciate the tip! I'm playing with the bridge pickup.
JOPbass 2 years ago
@trad3markk Yea I got a bow recently and find using just a little gain is better than a lot of gain, it sounds really good in the flesh so looking forward to doing a direct recording, something i wish everyone would do cos its so easy and a million times better sounding.

So, that kind of delayed sound, does that just happen when You play a guitar with a fiddlestick, or do You have some sorts of effects pedal?

some questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer:
1) in order to get a sigur ros-esque sound, is all you need a violin/cello bow and your electric guitar?
2) would there be a difference in sound between a cello bow versus a violin bow on a plugged guitar?
cool vid, btw
heartion 3 years ago
To achieve a sigur ros sound
1.Guitar
2.Bow (cello or violin)
3.Lots of Rosin (what goes on the bow)
4.Lots of REVERB (achieved through a pedal)
if it was me i might add some delay and distortion depending on my mood
but those are the most simple ways to achieve the AMAZING
sigur ros sound
upthepunk1987 3 years ago
You are right but delay are more important that reverb, bealive me.

well this way to play comes originally from jimmy page (and maybe from someone even before him) that made his gibson speaks in dazed & confused...so i won't say that comes from sigur ros at all!!(have you ever heard dazed & confused?!)

yeah and when jimmy page plays his guitar with a bow it sounds like crap. nuff said.

Oh hush. Jimmy page will be the greatest living guitar player in my book. All of hard rock is indebted to him, of course. But come on, there's not much of a link between him and Sigur Ros. Let's stop talking oranges at an, erm, apple orchard....
JOPbass 3 years ago
You're the one who said that jimmy page sounds like crap, And what does that even mean?
LordHondros 3 years ago
yeah, I gotta be honest, the guy who asked you whether you know dazed and confused would have made me so mad I would have said something of the like. But I agree with you, the beauty of guitar playing with a bow is more of a sigur ros thing.
Metallicrazy 3 years ago
For you idiots who are yelling at him for saying this, it does sound like crap. That is what made it perfect in Dazed & Confused. he wanted it to sound like crap, all psychedelic and all.
P.S. You should learn how to capitalize hubert1klimt. Is your shift broken?
Johni22 2 years ago
Um, I had the idea way before I even knew what Led Zeppelin was, (I first learned about them my freshman year in high school.) let alone that the lead singer used his bow on his guitar for a few songs.
I'm pretty sure that it's not safe to assume that every musicia ever is stealing Page's idea by playing the guitar with a bow, or that the idea originally came from Jimmy Page.
Lunaquois 3 years ago
@hubert1klimt It was actually 60's mod band The Creation that first did the bowing idea
thenazipanda 1 year ago
@hubert1klimt Jimmy Page was not the first to use a bow. He got the idea from someone else.

thebogusman1390 3 years ago
I'm using a POD xtLive with the most reverb that i could get, heavy distortion, delay (digital), and a VOX amp model. The reverb/distortion/delay combo are key.

i think thats a bass bow
DaveChorowskiMusic 3 years ago
does this screw up ur strings n where you get the tabs?also do they only play the low E strng?
sedomist 3 years ago
No it shouldn't hurt your strings, Your strings will probably destroy the bow if they are not low gauge. The bow is horse tail hair.
RTTOE 3 years ago
This is why you have to use LOTS of rosin. :]

only thing thatll happen to the strings is that theyll be covered in rosin powder haha

how tight must be the bow?
do you need something special besides the delay?
y just bought a bow, and i'm trying to pla it on my strat, but it sounds like crap
help? =D
andrei89 3 years ago
Strats and teles are crap for playing with a bow. Sorry mate!
You gotta use a guitar with a high bridge and put loads of reverb and delay on top of a distorted sound. The bow doesn't need to be that tight, but it needs lots of rosin. Lots.
JOPbass 3 years ago
Hmm..I was wondering is it possible to play less than six strings at the same time?
saranghaeyo235 3 years ago
I only play one string here.
JOPbass 3 years ago
Ok, which is the E string. But you can only solo that one, right?
saranghaeyo235 3 years ago
yeah pretty much. But Sigur Ros plays some cool harmony stuff with all the strings lower on the neck. It's a chord of some kind, I haven't figured it out yet.
JOPbass 3 years ago
try dropping just your low E a step to D. then barreing the 3 lowest strings will get you a power chord. idk if thats anything like what you were talking about but i hope it helped
=/ lol
by the way, what kind of guitar is that, where did you get it, and for how much?
thanks (its pretty cool looking)
