Yeah because Rasputin and people from the royal family all spoke in a rich psuedo-British accent and had a camera crew in the Tsar's palace at all times of the day.
Rasputin wasn't stupid enought to make a pass at one of the Grand Duchesses but he did try to make a play for the Tsar's sister. She wouldn't have ANY of that.
Trouble with history is revisionists come along and tell us everything we knew was wrong and they spin us a whole load more distortions of the truth along the lines of how good all the bad people were and how bad all the good people were. As always the truth lies somewhere inbetween. Thankfully this film is pure hollywood and works on an entertainment level,.Only an idiot would get thier history lessons from Hollywood.
Certain scenes like this one were creative liberties taken on the historical accounts to accentuate Rasputins debauchery and romanicize the Romanovs. However, there is a decent amount of the films that is relatively accurate, such as the lengthy ordeal of Rasputins death, and the death of the Romanovs themselves
Also, this was a pre-code picture in which the scandalous aspect of the story was a big selling point (ie Rasputin's drunken parties)
The unpleasantly confusing fact is that he had some way to control the princes hemophelia...that is to cause the hemmorage to coagulate. He advised the Tzar not to go to war. The ones who bumped him off were said to be debauchees themselves
It is said that he used hypnosis which helped the prince relax and told the prince to stop taking asprin which is an anticoagulate. These two factors are probably what caused the prince to heal.
Prince Yusupov openly admitted to being gay in his memoirs. His wife eventually left him because of it.
As for Rasputin, many people have claimed he just relied on coincidence or used drugs or hypnosis, however none of the Romanovs ever saw him administer drugs, and he never actually FAILED. So coincidence is pretty unlikely... there's just no satisfactory "logical" explanation to it (and believe me I want one.... I wanna know all Rasputin's secrets).
Rasputin did not do any of this. Why would he be around if the Children didn't like him? He was only allowed that close because the children liked him. Regardless of how good this movie is, and the acting, it's way too far from the truth.
The actor was Lionel Barrymore, Drew Barrymore's great Uncle. Her grandfather was John Barrymore. Lionel was her Uncle. He was an amazing talent. He is uber creepy here.
he was blasphemous, he raped women and manipulated the romanovs. personally if I were there, when they killed him, I would have lobbed his head off with an axe
I don´t think Rasputin would be stupid enough to go after one of the Grand Duchesses. But notice that´s just another movie in which Maria is presented as the pretties....
@DiamantaBralova Actually, I've read there were whispers about him. Someone in the Royal Family(Tsar's uncle, or something like that) warned the Tsar about exposing the idiot to the Grand Duchesses'.
He allegedly raped the nanny.

Rasputin is an enigmatic character for sure. Weather this scene is accurate or not, still a fine piece of acting to the art of seduction.
