Hey. Those presets that you made yourself at the end were wicked. I'm guessing you got them by using that original bassy synth preset. First of all, how did you get that original bass sound, I cant seem to get it. Secondly, how the hell did you make the ones you made at the end 0.o haha. Thanks
Hey gotta question, can the Roland R3 can do that, too? Because I would do Dubstep music etc. and can't decide between the Novation Ultranova and the Korg R3. The Ultranova can do that...
OH GODDDDD. just tell witch fucking knob makes the wobbling?! fuck me. you talk for 5 minutes. then SOMEHOW you do the wobbling without telling how and then your explaining obvious things like using frequency and rate. come on... WITCH KNOB MAKE THE SOUND WOWOWOOWO AND NOT STAIRGHT?
@Alu142 oh i know now.***FREQUENCY IS... THE DESTINATION KNOB.*** and thats all you had to say insead of talking bullshit for 7 minutes. sorry bro but this is crap. we cant even see the machine properly and everybody came here ONLY to see the synth and its configuration, not your face and hadns. cooome onnn
Nice tutorial! Thanks a lot man, I'm kinda new to synthesis so thanks a lot for the little explanation you gave of some of the terms in the beginning. keep it up!
Can you wobble the pitch like a trill or wobble volume like a vibrato? Can you have a chord when the notes wobble at different rates and what does it sound like? Can you alter this throughout a note with the envelope generator?
The bass you got @ 6:22 sounds like a true dubstep wobble bass. Why don't you explain how you created that patch? I got an SH-32 and I know they got similar engines with the SH-201. Thanks :)
@technoshamanarchist I don't have my 201 anymore and I don't really remember how I made that patch. I can tell you that the trick to dubstep wobbles is software and a bitcrusher (with heavy downsampling) .. HTH.
@BiggaBMusic :-/ I've been messing for hours, and I can't get a decent wobble. I'm making an insane Bioshock Dubstep mix, and the intros great, but when it comes time for the bass to drop... well, my wobbles fail. Any more tips on getting a sound like 6:22? that's really the kind of wobble I need.
@beatlust I personally have not used a Virus to the extent that I could help you. I recommend googling around and maybe checking out the Access website and posting in the forums there. I'm sure it can do it, its a pretty functional synth.. you just need to find someone who has done it before and the Access forums are your best bet.
yo! bigga B.. i'm a drummer. but ever since i was in gradeschool i loved house music. i know nothing about keyboards but i really want to learn how to use the synth.. any tips? i'd really appreciate it man! btw, your soundz are cool!
@qwekqwek015 Yo... first of all, subscribe to me because I do a lot of videos that will help you - I'm about to get really serious about it and start putting a lot of them out again.. I've just been distracted/busy lately - second, I have a video up called Beginner Synth Recommendations - watch that, then just message me any questions you have. I also make videos by request so I can do one on a topic for you. As far as tips, get a good synth, study synthesis, music theory, and harmony. HTH -B
@BiggaBMusic Hey BiggaB, I'm a guitarist and i've just started producing but i'm considering buying a Akai Mini ak synth to use live with my Rock/dubstep band, Would you say this is a god choice as i can't really spend much more than £250 from the specs and reviews i have read it seems good. Also could you make a dubstep tutorial on ableton as i am currently using that and i have achieved a decent dubstep wobble bass but i think it could be Improved
@TheMightyGhillie Hey! Thanks for the request! Ok, first of all, subscribe to me and tell your bandmates and producer friends to subscribe. That will be the payment for the dubstep tutorial video I'll make. Anyways, I have played around with the Mini-AK and it seems great. If you are just wanting to use it to play in a band, I say go for it. If you want to learn how to program your own sounds, I don't know if its good for it or not. If you can play one at a local music store and you like (cont)
@TheMightyGhillie (continued) ...if you like the sounds then get it. Its one thing to use it in a band vs. doing full on synth productions where you would need something with more control. As far as Ableton, I will do the video.. I love Ableton, so you made a good choice there. I'm not a dubstep producer, I'm actually a tech house/electro and weird rock producer, but I do know how to make a dubstep track, so I will try. Just give me a few days to put it together so I can research and all that.
@TheMightyGhillie (continued again) So, thanks for the post and feel free to message me on Youtube or to email me any questions you have. One thing though - what instruments are you using for production in Ableton? If I know which ones, I can focus on those... also, do you have Ableton Suite or the regular version? Thanks.
@BiggaBMusic Currently i'm using Ableton live lite line 6 version,a version built for the guitar podfarm plugin, I have used a few instruments and at the moment I like Analogue saw the most with dubplate vinyl distortion, but i have used simpler as well.
@TheMightyGhillie Ok, sounds good. I will see what I can pull together. I am currently taking some online classes and looking for work (as usual) and have some other new things going on. So, I may not be able to put the video out until this weekend. Sorry for the delay. Anyways, feel free to directly message me questions if you have any more.
@BiggaBMusic Currently i'm using Ableton live 8 lite line 6 version,a version built for the guitar podfarm plugin, I have used a few instruments and at the moment I like Analogue saw the most with dubplate vinyl distortion, but i have used simpler as well.
Can this same wobble be produced on the SH-01? The SH-01 has no decent owner's manual like the SH-201 and the available signal routing is not clear from just looking at the SH-201. Which of these synths is better for wobble bass?
@TomZentra I recently traded in my 201 to get the 01. The 201 is easier for sure. You can still produce the same thing on the GAIA though. You just modulate the Filter's Cutoff Frequency with the LFO. It is the same thing on all synths. On the GAIA its really even easier though, you just push the Filter fader up or down underneath the LFO... then play around with the LFO's controls to get the desired effect. Oh, and make sure you use either a Bandpass or Lowpass Filter. Hope that helps.
@BiggaBMusic There was some weird grammar in there.. so here is what I was trying to say - The SH-201 is overall an easier synth to use, but the GAIA SH-01 makes it even more simple to achieve a Wobble Bass sound.
@fakeaccount3000 I have never used a pss-80, but if it has a lowpass or bandpass filter, an LFO, and the ability to modulate the filter's cutoff frequency with the LFO... you can. Let me know if I can help anymore.
@rantarave The SH is great for teaching synthesis. The way it is laid out demonstrates the signal flow better than any other synth. I sold it for the SH-01, but its still the same idea. So, I use it to teach people sound design.
@rantarave along the same lines... the V-Synth is probably the worst synth ever to teach synthesis, lol. It is so poorly laid out and on the tiny little screen and so much menu b.s. to deal with. I hated it, after having it for 6+ years or something, I sold it too. Plus, anything digital, I have gotten rid of, I can do all that in the box. All I have that is digital now is classic/vintage stuff and the GAIA.
honestly you guys, the V-synths is one of the best synths ever made. I do not own one, but i have tried it in store and it is amazing. I have not tried programming the V-Synth, but the SH-201 is too basic of a synth, there is no fun using it. However i think the best synth you can buy right now is the Kurzweil PC3X, with its algorithmic programming appreach it is very logical and powerful once you learn it.
@rantarave Ehh... I don't know why everyone is even arguing about this, especially when none of you have any experiential knowledge on it. Hah. The SH-201 has more capabilities than lots of the famous synths because it has layers and multiple LFOs, etc. etc. My Moogs don't have anything near that, they have a great low end and analog sound, but can't do some stuff as complex as the SH-201. Anyway, its all in the synthesist, not the synthesizer.
and btw thanks biggabmusic! i also own an sh-201 and this helped a bit, im all of a sudden obsessed with making dubstep noises on all of my different synths.
when you say set destination, a microkorg doesnt have this :/ the LFO 2 and Filter are on the same edit select :/ how do i set destination to filter without moving the edit select from LFO 2?
@s8terblood11 i actually just made it today. its very complicated, and i improvised. But in basics: first i made a very bassy sound using cross mod with pulse on the first oscillator ,the eq, cabi sim fx, and Wah fx
then I patched lfo 2 to oscillator level(+63), patched lfo 2 to ws depth (+63), key track to lfo2 frequency(+28), and then set the pitch bend range to a higher number(like 7), and make sure oscillator 2's lvl is off, and oscillator 2's pitch is set to -24.
@joenemeth1 gotchya. im like a huge noob so it'll take me forever to find all those settings. =/ but ive basically just been using the pitch wheel and shit but it doesnt sound that great.
@s8terblood11 the technique i use with all of that is playing the different notes, which already now have different lfo frequencies, and use the pitch wheel to use different pitches for the different speeds of the keyes. hopefully when you make it you can kinda feel what i mean, and be creative with it, it could come out better. otherwise ill post a video next week showing how to make it.
@APDBlog I think I have made a wobble bass on a Micro Korg before, not quite sure how I did it, but I will see if I can figure it out for you.. I have a few other requests/questions to answer right now and my studio is just now being re-setup in a new location so I will post a comment as soon as I can.
@APDBlog Ok. so there is not a destination selection for the LFO on the Micro Korg. I see what you are talking about now.. I don't really know of a better way to do it on the MK, but I will play with mine today, not that I have some time and the MK is unpacked.. sorry for the delay.. if you want to do really good wobble bass, you probably won't want to use the Micro, but I will still try to figure a way out for you..
