steady, solid playing. Now - get to work and make it come alive as the "concerto" that Bach wrote. You must understand the concepts of "tutti" and "soli" as they pertain to the baroque concerto. Read up on it if you need to. Contrast is the key. On a purely musical note - you need to create some phrasing and differentiation. Take a breath every once in a while. Where is dynamic variation? Start there and then....
only constructive criticism I have is the lack of dynamic contrast, however it is played very cleanly and the open piano offers a very appealing visual for sure. keep up the great playing!
Something is not right about this video. It looks like the speed of playback has been increased to make it seem like he is playing faster than he did.
Haha, he's not playing himself. We're being duped!!! Look carefully, can you see the little hammers move before he even touches the keys?? It's FAKE! He (or she) is just moving his fingers along to the keys going down.
your technical ability is far beyond most amateur pianists and the piece was really skillfully played. i know bach must be played strictly in regards to tempo and little to no rebato can be used and i think you found a nice balance. the only thing i would do is put a little more dynamic contrast between the left and right hand when one holds the melody and just other passages that come down. this is amazingly done though
there is a bit of a Dooky dooky kinda sound coming fromo the piano itself. Well, If nothing it makes for a unique Recording :P - Hey TimKa79, What is the maker of your keyboard? Cheers - solid playing ;)
If I may respond to a few prior comments. I generally agree there are some phrasing problems, but I disagree about the suggestions/demands for more dynamic phrasing. Should this guy have been playing on a harpsichord it is likely the same commentators would have been oo and ah--perhaps not. Dynamic phrasing is something which baroque music has very little of--if any--and shouldn't be relied on as much to make said stand out. Playing baroque on a piano often tempts us to do this though...
The concerto form relies upon the contrasting dynamics of soloist and orchestra. As such, Bach wrote this piece for the two-manual harpsichord and included specific dynamic markings of forte and piano throughout this movement to give this concerto it's contrast. It's one of the few pieces he wrote with dynamic markings, but they are there.
This is the best interpretation of this piece on youtube. You make this look WAY too easy, every other video of this 'presto' is an amateur by comparison.... you actually play it PRESTO unlike everyone else!
I already feel like a genius that aced all the exams at Harvard just by listening to this!
after watshing this, i thought this had pretty poor volume variations in the melody-strings themselves. So i thought that this was an attempt to a very text-loyal cembalo-simulation, to get to a sound very much like the one, Bach could have had in his time. But a good cembalo interpretation always has, as a cause of its construction, either a specially freely played tempo even within the melodystrings or a strict unchangeable text-loyal tempo.
I just askedd myself after watching this video, why there are nearly no modelations of the volume. I think this should be a simulation of a cembalo, like it used to be played in Bachs times... but the problem remains: the qualities of a good cembalo interpretation are specially the tempo variations or willingly non-variations. So this seems to me to be an attempt on text-loyal non-variation. The problem ist, that the pianist has not achieved total independence from the melodical bows...there are
Indeed, such precise finger-work requires copious amounts of slow practice!
Unfortunately, the placement of the (internal?) microphone probably makes the higher register sound much louder than the lower register. Moving the mic. would probably produce a much better recorded sound.
Dude, it's marked Presto. I don't hear people ever complaining about how incredibly slow and full of rubato someone like Segovia's playing is, why do people complain SO MUCH when someone plays fast? This playing sounds a lot more like a harpsichord concerto to me.
@timka79  Awsome! This is Still my Favourite recording of Bach's Italian Concerto Presto on Youtube :D ... By the way timka79, I took the cover off my piano too, and I got that same sound :D . Love it! Thanks again!
Also, you keep time well, which is so important for Bach.
I've been trying to learn (master) this piece for years, and I still get about 10 notes wrong during the course of it. The Chopin Polonaises and Liszt Etudes are so much easier imo for some reason. This one Bach piece gives me trouble.
Master! Super performance! Almost like Glenn Gould! How long have you practice playing the third movement of Italian Concerto? I love this movement. Any suggestions on how to play both effectively and fluently? Cheers. By the way, I'm from Shanghai China, nice to meet you.
If you just focus only at the mechanism of the piano, it's as if the video is played in stop motion animation. That will also make an illusion of the hands moving at a stop motion pace as well.
perfectly played (except for the dynamics... but the notes r so precise it makes me forget about that aspect. ill just consider it as a piano-sound harpsichord!)
He played all the notes just fine, but without dynamics. We're supposed to be able to tell the difference between the tutti and ripieno sections. This piece was written for a two manual harpsichord, the point is to mimic the obvious dynamic change that would be achieved on a harpsichord by exaggerating the dynamic shift on the piano. Another respondant mentioned the lack of expression in the tempo. It's nice and quick but there's no rubato at cadences.
I agree with Pantonality. You have the dexterity and ability, but you really need to work on musicality. The performance indicates no understanding of what's going on in the piece. Keep working at it, slow down at the cadences, add "echo" dynamics in appropriate sections, bring out the main themes more and quiet the subordinate voices. Just because you're uploading to a computer doesn't mean you have to play like one. Good with the notes, but you're capable of much better.
It seemed to lose the clarity a little in the middle part but that was really awesome. Nice job for playing it so fast and sounding so good. Cool piano too.
It's clear, it's lively, it's brilliant. Did Glenn Gould after leaving the stage, faking his premature death, turn his back to his recording audience too? And does he secretly lives a quiet live in an apartment somewhere? ;-)
Thank you! What a pleasure to listen to. I think given that the piano is NOT the instrument Bach composed for (as you wrote, he was not Chopin) you render this very very well. I would love to hear you play the rest - perhaps the other movements are already uploaded?

Thank you for posting your beautiful interpretation of this magnificent piece. I'm not xagerating, a couple of tears (happy ones) reached the edge of my eyes, it is a very emotive score and you certainly caught the joy of it. Congratulations.
Does anyone know why this particular version of the third movement of the Italian Concerto stops from time to time? This is a gorgeous recording and it is driving me absolutely nuts!
Great fingering. Are you a piano teacher yourself ? This is my Grade 8 Final exam piece when I was in Hong Kong(Grade 8 is the final grade before performance and teaching certificates. They follow the British System).
This third movement of Bach's Italian Concerto in F Minor is not only beautifully played but the music itself is lovely beyond compare. It is impossible to listen to this movement and be depressed!
woow woow woow imnpresionante magnifico ke krak oh my god! very nice you are very good congratulations J.S.Bach de los mejores 5 estrellas tocas de muerte
The beauty of Bach is lies in the way the melody switches from hand to hand and is even sometimes on both hands at once. This piece is a legitimate example of this; simply magnificent.

Well played, but that piano's sound is awful, like an Old West saloon piece. Would be interested to hear your rendition on a nice grand.

The beauty of Bach is lies in the way the melody switches from hand to hand and is even sometimes on both hands at once. This piece is a legitimate example of this; simply magnificent.
