Hmm, passive stealth technology got obsolete near 2020 and had no future because new radar system are coming like S400, active stealth technology is the future. you can t reduce signature to infinite, because reflexion engine return em ray back. Only way is to cancel or absorb em ray from radar ennemy. JSF concept is dead. the F117 was detected and shooted down easily by an very old sam, it was not a problem of open trap but detection, signature can be small, it is lock by sol-air system.
By "obscene" I believe he meant the music was lame and the titles obscured a large portion of the video all the way through. And I agree. The size and duration of the titles was ridiculous. Almost anything would have made better music.
nFeldman2007-the music and comments are obscene? That is flat out the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. No one forced you to watch it. If you are so offended, don't.
The long term costs are supposed to be low. NATO will have a shared aircraft, and smaller countries like yours will have components that mostly have commonality with the US versions. That will simplify logistics and maintenance.
Plus, the US funded basically all of the research as well, so although your country will buy each unit at the same price, you didn't pay much for the R&D. So for a stealth aircraft it will be relatively affordable.
If the parliament is going to make a decision wether to buy the F35 or not they will not look at the cost over its lifetime but at the cost per unit. And also wether they can produce the planes themself like they have always don't with the Starfighters and the Vipers which is impossible with the F35 afaik.
Don't you think it's near-sighted to only emphasize unit cost? Regardless, you'd be getting increased capability with the money. The capabilities that the F35 are far and beyond what you could get with cheaper aircraft. Even the European governments that supported the Eurofighter project admit that the F35 would be far superior in countering modern Russian fighters.
What fighter aircraft would Belgium purchase as an alternative to the F35?
None if they are smart. The F-35 has so much stealth technology for the price it is incredible. Not another country on earth has invested the kind of money the US and our allies have invested. Why/ Because they don't think it works. However, I quote this from a Belgium pilot flying an F-15C at Operation Red Flag, " I could see the F-22 through my canopy but could not get a single weapons system to lock onto him to shoot him down." Still think stealth tech doesn't work?
@greg8698 I know you posted your comment about a year ago but I ask you. You said you don't think stealth tech works. I suggest you put your question to Iraq. F 117 was there and they never knew it until their bombs went off. F 35 is even more stealthy and the counter measures we have are even more mind boggling.

I like the music :-) And I could read the titles even in the teeny tiny youtube window. It's a cool video - thanks for putting it up.

DanMillCreek, first of all, who are you referring to with "this guy"?
Secondly, how (or why) would ITAR apply to a unrestricted, public promo video made for the PAS?

No dicisions have been made yet so everything is speculationt.
The most likely aircraft to be bought is the Saab Gripen NG alternatives are the Dassault Rafale and the Typhoon ofcourse.

And yes it's near-sighted to only look at the cost but you can't spend money you don't have can you?
