Thanks for the info ChiOne07. You won't believe how many educators are curious about the worship service at this church. Their cd's give you the impression that they sing all geners of music. If so, this is rare. I was in Chicago and wanted to go and see what is going on there but when I called I didn't get an answer.
@Owiewillich If ever in Chicago again, they record their broadcast at 7:00 p.m., and the broadcast is at 11pm. They havent done a LIVE broadcast in a few years.
Why don't this church have any videos. Everything is always audio. The only video is at someone else's church. There is a lot of curiosity out there. We won't to see a worship service or something fdrom this church and choir. This choir is know all over for Lift up your heads O Ye gates and Yield not to temptation. We won't to see them. Come on First Church set it up.
@Owiewillich First church hasnt made in dvds or videos that I know of, and they don't appear on local cable access. Which is probably why there is not much video of them. They ARE still on the radio and on internet radio every sunday night at 11pm Central Standard time on " 1063realradio dot c o m "
This is America where everyone has a right to an opinion. I do not disrespect your opinion and believe ME I know that Jesus is the Light of the World and with him there is no darkness. I try to walk in the light each day and treat people the way I want to be treated.
The songs that First Church, Cosmopolitan, and others sing are songs of inspiration.
When I am in church and the spirit enters, I feel it.
I didnt live in that time period, so I have no knowledge of what First Church of Deliverance used to be, I can only tell of what I see. Being a member of the church you should keep certain statments to yourself. A light, no matter how dim it shines, is yet shining. The spiritual Church may not shine as she used to maybe because the world is a much darker place. But Jesus is still shining in First Church's Soul. A shout out to the late_Prophet Johnson. 101 year old prophet.
Oh, what a memory. I can't believe I found this. Back in 1966 my wife and I went and visted the First Church when Rev. Cobb was there. We actually was on our honeymoon but I had been listening to the choir on Sunday evening at 11pm all the way over in Buchanan, Mi so I just had to visit this church. I grew up in a Pentecostal church playing the Hammond Organ with my Leslie speaker tone cabinet so you know why I enjoyed the choir with the hammond organ and a player and a great player st that.
This version of the song was recorded by Rev James Cleveland and the Charles Fold singers on the album called Tomorrow on savoy 1978, This song was written by the father of gospel music Thomas A Dorsey, I have the sheet music for that song, it was adopted it by the Metropoltion Spiritual Church as it's theme song. For the record some of First Church music is still in print, you have to search the world, there music was sold in stores down through the years, for the record, if you need me hit me
YES IN DEED!!! We just don't church like that anymore. I'm originally from Detroit and I currently reside in ATlanta. The Only Time I get Church Close to the old days is if I got to New Beginning FGBC unde Bishop James H. Morton(Brother of Bishop Paul S. Morton) I remember the old days of Churches like Neopolitan Spiritual Church, and St. James MBC in Detroit even the early days of Sweet Holy Spirit in Chicago. REAL CHURCHY!!!
Hey ChiOne, you've done it again! Another one of Chicago's finest radio choirs! My God, I rember the line-up of Chicago churches on WLUP back in the day. I do remember Rev. Clarence Cobb. And now, after all these years, I finally get to put a face on Pastor Otto Houston. His chior is excellent. The soprano section is totally awesome. How is it that the baddest soprano sections in the world are out of Chicago? Thanks again ChiOne, for another unforgetable experience.
I grew up here in the great radio circuit era starting at 5p with Cosmo, on the Monument, on to Maceo, on to Fellowship . end the night with First Church. Miss those days.
Unfortunately, I don't. There are rarely on TV. I just happent to catch this one Christian Tabernacles broadcast. I have alot of audio broadcast selections.
Tajmere1: You can call the Tabernacle Of Prayer offices at (718)657-4210. They can send you a catalog of the crusade choir tapes as well as the messages by Apostle Washington. Shout out to TOP members past and present! I will try to upload audio clips of the choir.
The First Church of Deliverance choir is great. As a member of the church I look forward to the Songs of Inspiration and Deliverance. In a time when it is hard to get the word, you can always get inspired from the songs.
Oh yes, this sounds like the late, great Apostle Johnny Washington--165-11 Merrick Blvd. Jamaica, Queens, New York!!! I remember and love Tabernacle back in those days!
What happened to this video? It doesn't come up when I log on to hear it? I would love to hear and see the video. I listen to the First Church of Deliverance on Gospel Radio 1390 AM out of Chicago. I enjoy hearing the Choirs sing.
Hey this is my grandmas church choir performing. It is the First Church Of Deliverance on 43rd and Wabash in Chicago, and that is Otto T. Houston Pastor.
Correction they been singing this way since 1929 under the direction or rev clarence h cobbs( preacher) and also under Julia Mae Kennedy and Ralph GoodPastuer (uncle ralph)
Let me correct myself: they did record an album with Nat King Cole and it was released on the Capitol label so they could not control distribution of it and it was sold in record stores.
They've been singing this way since the 1940's and made their first LP album in 1949 and have been broadcasting at 12 midnight every Sunday from Chicago since the 1940's and this is their theme song. They are part of the Metropolitan Assoc of Spiritual Churches and are visiting another church in Chicago in this video. They don't allow their records to be sold in stores, only through the church.
This sounds like and remind me of the late Apostle Johnnie Washington of Tabernacle of Prayer out of New York's combine choirs. They use to sing this. Sounds like old Pentecostal all the way. lol
Sorry, I sure don't. I can try to get you the address that I have from one of the broadcasts that I have on video. from my understanding the chrch is still in existance.
ok thanks. I am currently trying to set up a concert there.
