  • Good video, I always do wrap between my pink and ring. From now on I won't ^^ Thanks for the info.....what song in the background btw?

  • @x103387x Since making this video, I've actually found a few wrapping methods that work pretty well with canvas wraps between all of the fingers, as well as some taping methods I like a lot more than the one shown here. Unified rules have also changed in terms of wrapping hands as well. I'm actually making an updated video about this. The song is called "Get away you nasty thing" I recorded it with my band back in college.

  • LOL 6:21 favorite part! "Here is my pet ferret." i love ferrets!

  • I apologize, I saw this at the store and I knew how to apply them, but what is the purpose of wrapping/taping hands? Is it to reduce damage? I wouldn't know because I shadowbox more than I actually strike something.

  • good advice ive leanrt from this, i used to wrap between my little finger and ring finger, but thanks to the video ive seen what can possibly happen good one!!

  • big question, i use my two smaller knuckles to punch, and ive already gotten to the point where ive killed all my nerves and i can break a cement cinder block (ive never sprained my wrist or anything). would it be wise to just just go on? or start again with the two big knuckles. btw, i found out what other people feel when they punch a wall now, i didnt kill my nerves on the big two knuckles @.@

  • hey , thats my pet ferret. xD good video. thanx

  • you didnt show how to secure the pad to your knuckles while taping, isnt that required for most boxing matches?

  • In karate we don't use any wraps but then again we don't go punching boards like everyone thinks, we do a lot of knuckle pushups though is it possible to build up the muscles in our hands and wrists? Cause we punch makiwari boards and bags and I've been doing it all my life with no injurys...

  • 4:52 That's not true in all countries. In Holland you can and everybody does :)

  • are you a boxer, mma fighter, or martial artist?

  • Very nice video!!!! Very professional, thanks!! P.S. The ferret's awesome!!

  • in regards to u saying that u cant tape the knuckles and stuff, ive seen a couple mixed martial artists tape their knuckles, they put some osrt of foam thing over them and then do the single peices of tape between each finger, is this a new rule or something or was i seeing things lool?

  • Why is it illegal to wrap over the nucles!!!????

  • @fahim163 because some commisions believe it to form some type of "cast" around the knuckles thus improving punching power.

  • I've been practicing martial arts since I was young, and I find you video VERY essential! Thanks a lot!

However, I have never before heard that warpping the 3rd and 4rd fingers is wrong. Based on what do you say it?

P.S, I injured my pincky knuckle in a street fight while in was a kid. I still have that injury, which reminds me to strike right :)

P.P.S , I am not well versed in English - is that a putorios? Very cute! :)

    P.s.s

  • balletman, how's your wrist holding up? I say this out of genuine concern. I'm not trying to be a wise-ass. I'd really miss your videos.

  • i have to say this video was by far a vary good one...i liked the way you put things and well done

  • I really enjoyed your video, but I noticed something while watching. I've read through the first few pages of comments and no one seemed to mention this; your diagrams of the hand's structure are incorrect. Well, the diagram of the bones are fine, but you're actually pointing to and highlighting the wrist bones, not the knuckles. The knuckles are where the phalanges meet the metacarpals, yet you've highlighted where the metacarpals meet the carpals aka the wrist. Otherwise great video!

  • Yep. It's already been mentioned.

  • I couldn't disagree with you more. Look at an anatomy chart of the human hand. The 4th and 5th metacarpals are NOT the "straightest line connection from your knuckles", in fact, it's the opposite. Those bones project from the wrist at a 20-30 degree angle- not straight.

The most common injury in boxing is broken 4th and 5th metacarpals due to connecting with the small knuckles.

If anyone tells you otherwise, they haven't done their homework.

  • @balletman

You're right about the 4th and 5th, man. I've dislocated my pinky once and broken my fifth metacarpal twice in fights. I had to retrain myself to fight with the first two knuckles. Best part is, it was a doctor who told me this proper procedure to punch people.

  • @oldchimpdotcom Wow, you are the first one ever who said this 0.o

  • @oldchimpdotcom you are joking right?

  • quick question about the taping i will be taping a few of my training partners hands a week on Saturday as the person who normally does this is away and the person that normally does this cuts away the middle part to expose the palm of the as all the fighter where open palm mma gloves would u advise this?

  • yeah thats what i did, i used the wrong two knuckles. and yep. i broke my pinky and cut 30% of my artey on the other.... lol =/

  • I have a three meter long bandage and I can't wrap my hand with it. Is it too short?

  • DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT BIG ASS RAT LOL

  • Comment removed

  • i think this is a really good video you make some good points....i have found the palm strike to be a useful wepon i mean in lacks diversity but makes up for it in power lol

  • Right on.

  • just be careful with that pinkey knuckle. iv'e got a plate and four screws in mine. the more points on your hand that connect the better and lowers the chance of a break. but throwing at that angle if you miss a little and catch just ur pinkey on a cheekbone or a jaw at the wrong angle it will break easier than the big two because the little two are curved. the big two are str8. but they all break, I need a new hand.

  • The only problem is that my punching power doesn't increase when punching ''softly'' onto a hard surface... So boxing seems good for increasing my power.

Thank you for responding so quickly! I will send you a message when my teacher gives his explanation.

  • Hey many thanks for this video! I will use your tips for practicing on my own.

I have one question though; i have been practicing kung fu for over 4 years now and my sifu (teacher) always taught me to strike with the smallest knuckles! This because the surface is smaller and ''the smaller the surface of impact, the more damage is will do''... So why is this different? And more importantly: how come i've never broke my hand ????

  • "the smaller the surface of impact, the more damage is will do" This should read as follows "sharper the point of impact = more potential for penetration" The problem with that is the sharpest points on the human hand are also the weakest. For example, striking with the fingertips would be a good weapon IF your finger joints were solidly bolted together with steel. The smaller knuckles on the fist are no sharper than the bigger ones, just weaker, less reinforced striking points.

  • Also, you mentioned that you haven't broken your hand punching like that. What have you been punching?

  • Ha, yes! i see... "sharper the point of impact = more potential for penetration" yes that was what i meant, sorry for the english :-). Thank you for explaining, i will tell my teacher about this..as for your question; I've mostly been punching barefist on 3 pieces of cardboard attached to a wall... Offcourse, not with full strength but, i have been told that after a while, the fist will adjust and you will be able to punch at full force on a thin newspaper(!!!) attached to the wall...

  • Im not saying this way is wrong. But i was always taught the JKD way. Try it yourself. Get up to wall, hold your fist vertically and lean into the wall with your first two knuckles and notice how your wrist is bennding and a wierd 'unnatural looking 'angle.

Now do it with the last three knuckles and notice that theres a straight line from the pinky and ring knuckles all the way to your shoulder.

Meh, its up to you which you use, but to me, the second one seems more structually sound

  • We must be built very differently. My knuckles don't do that.

  • Like i said, im not saying my ways any better, ill try and find a decent picture for what i mean, cause my explanation kinda sucked lol

  • Fair enough.

  • I do my bagwork bare knuckle and every so often I end up taking skin off of my knuckles. Do you ever have problems with that, or is there something I can do about that? You said in the video about conditioning being the process of laying down scar tissue, but if done well conditioning need not lay down any scar tissue. It can actually increase bone density, and strengthen tendons and ligaments. I've been using iron palm to tighten up a few ligament insecurities that I got from sprains.

  • "I do my bagwork bare knuckle and every so often I end up taking skin off of my knuckles."

I have the same problem I guess taping up the knuckles would solve it...im guna go try lol

  • yaaaa, barehanded hurts if you are hitting hard. i wear just plain gloves made for speed bags (less padding) and the skin on my fingers that make contact look like they have a rash or brushburn on them so i ordered some handwraps lol

  • promotion for everlast? LOL

  • actually the only thing that is not allowed on your knuckles is tape..you can make a nice and solid knuckle pad as long as the tape is a fingers distance down from your knuckles..without the knuckle pad those strips through your fingers are pointless..plus for comfort when you go between the fingers you should fold the tape in half or twist to make sure there is no irritation*no adhesive contact on the skin is made this way*...I'll have to make a video of my method and see how you like it.

  • Makes sense.

But to complicate things, MMA unified rules are changing in the near future to allow tape over the knuckles as well. I don't think boxing and kickboxing will adopt that rule change, however.

  • yeah I don't know about the rules from your state..but this is how I understand it's still done in california..they're always changing things..everytime you go to a show thiers alwasy something different.

  • great video. i learns a couple of new things today lol

  • nice ferret or weasel

  • "dont ever hit your hand with a hammer like this" duh!

  • well there are ppl that does it so its an ok warning

  • cool vid. really informative.

    lol

when I was watching tho that ferret scared the crap outa me! lol

i thot it was gonna bite you on the crotch!

    lol nice touch tho

  • LOL!!! i thought it was a rat the that he was going to freak out like wtf its a rat LOL!!!

  • doesnt tape loosen up when you are starting to sweat? i dont think that is a good handwrap

  • Tape loosens up when you start moving.

Which handwrap did you not like and why? Suggestions for a better one are more than welcome.

  • Balletman how useful is it really to wrap your hands with ropes and cords like some muay thai fighters do?? isn't that going to hurt you more than it actually protects you??

  • I don't know. I've never wrapped my hands with ropes like Muay Boran (traditional Muay Thai) fighters did. I imagine it would have a similar effect as using canvas or tape, except that it would result in a more abrasive punch.

  • Does these taping techniques work well for tennis?

  • I'm not sure, but it couldn't hurt to reinforce your wrist, or even your elbow in a similar way, since tennis injuries tend to happen there.

  • ya, thanks

  • Hey, good video - I have the exact same red wrap as the ones on the video! But I have a cat instead of a weasel! I wanted a weasel, but apparently, weasel's eat cats. I'm not sure if that is true. I think my Dad lied since he doesn't want anymore pets :(

  • Good video but I noticed a huge issue!!

At 6:22, I know you are in your basement but you seem to have one hell of a rat problem!

    :)

  • Thanks for the info balletman. Here's my dilema- i like to use the heavy bag to work out but i do not care about conditioning my knuckles to be tough & i really cant have torn up hands for a week or more at a time (i'm suburban anti-soccer mom not a pro fighter) i use gloves, but i still tear up my knuckles, how can i tape my hands to prevent this?

  • First of all, what kind of gloves are you using? Are they open fingered? Padded boxing gloves? Unpadded bag gloves? If you are wearing gloves and you still tear up your knuckles, they may be too loose, or you may just need some extra padding. There are several good options available. Do you usually wrap or tape your hands before you do bag work?

  • I find my muscle underneath the thumb gets very sore when i wrap my thumb up. even tho its not tight it still hurts alot and feels very very tired. should i bother between the fingers or just leave it?

  • There are several no-thumb wrap variations. If any one method of wrapping is uncomfortable, try a different one. There are several very effective methods.

  • Also, Brad Daddis has a pretty good video on a no-thumb Thai Boxing wrap variation that works pretty well. He wraps between the pinky and ring finger, but without the connection to the thumb, it doesn't matter so much. It's also a good variation to add more padding to the knuckles if you need it.

  • How long should the hand wrap be ? Especially the red canvas wrap in the video. How long is it ?

  • Canvas wraps generally come in 108" and 180" sizes. The red wrap in the video is 108". The tan wrap is 180".

  • whats the name of the song ?btw great vid

  • The song is called "Get Away You Nasty Thing", written by DJ Meisigner, performed and recorded by yours-truly.

  • thank you :)

  • Very cool music! nd wats up with the awesome animal?

  • Thanks for the comment on the music. It's a song I recorded with my band back in the day.

  • Were do you buy canvas wrap and under wrap? Thank you in advance. This will help when I start Boxing.

  • Canvas wraps, under wrap and athletic tape are available in most sporting goods stores.

  • Alright thanks.

  • Sorry, I accidentally deleted a comment that asked "What's the proper way to wrap the foot/ankle?"

As a rule of thumb, I wrap the ankle in a figure-8, then reinforce the metatarsals of the instep, then figure-8 around the ankle, then finish at the bottom of the shin. The key is to wrap firmly, but not too tight. If it's too tight, it can cut off circulation and restrict mobility.

  • whats the point of wrapping if you cant do the knuckles?

  • Wrapping isn't about padding the knuckles. Conditioning and gloves do that for you. More than anything else, wrapping is about reinforcing the connection of the metacarpals to the wrist.

  • Have you considered becoming a pro wrestler?

  • where can I get a canvas wrap?

  • LoL Clear and easy to follow steps.

P.S. I enjoyed the Ragtime quality!

  • What is the best way to connect with the bag when throwing a hook to the head and or liver? I get many answers.

  • Throw your hooks with bad intentions.

That's the best advice I ever got about striking. It's not technical at all, but throw with bad intentions and you will see results.

  • Well, I know that but what part of my knuckle should I hit with, and should I keep my shoulder tight or loose. I mean I know people that do it both ways, and I havent figured out what is more effecient. Thnaks again.

  • Thanks for clarifying. When throwing a hook, you should strike with the knuckles of the index finger and the middle finger, the same as any other punch.

Vertical fist for lead & straight hooks, horizontal for overhand/high shovel hooks, 45 degree inverse for low shovel hooks.

As far as what to do with your shoulder- what I do is this: loose on a lead hook, tight and connected to the body on a straight hook. Tight on all shovel hooks.

  • Great video man, really great...only thing is, in wing chun, they taught us to make contact with only our bottom 2 knuckles to avoid damaging the hand or wrist...so...I guess I'll just have to do more re-search (I've been told otherwise by my boxing coach though, so who knows?)

  • That's new to me. I'd be interested to hear from more wing chun practitioners about that. I've practiced with a couple wing chun guys and never heard or seen anything like that before.

I have to say though, from a simple anatomical perspective, the metacarpals of the pinky and ring finger are not aligned straight with the wrist, and thus make a straight impact with these bones dangerous.

  • I know Muay Thai guys actually DO wrap between all fingers and put a LOT of tape on the knuckles but I guess the rules are different in MT.

  • Loved this video, very professional, very informative. The ferret's pretty cute too =)

  • Thanks balletman. This video is very comprehensive and the use of graphics helps in the processing of info.

  • Right on. Do you still secure your thumb when you are fighting in MMA? I only wrap my thumbs when boxing/muay thai...in MMA, I don't for the fact of grappling. That's great about the Trivial Pursuit....my record is quite the opposite. Have a Happy New Year!

  • Yep, I usually do one wrap around the thumb for MMA as well, although I have skipped that step before. One wrap is usually enough to reinforce the thumb without limiting mobility too much. While wrapping for MMA, I always check the mobility of my hands with the Gable grip & S-grip as well as making a fist.

  • I was wondering what is your experience level? Any certifications? I have worked with many state sanctioned cornermen and your wrapping is quite different, especially for MMA. Your style of punching looks like you have Kung-fu or JKD training.

  • My experience level? Amateur MMA record: 2-2-0, Pro Muay Thai record: 1-3-0, WTF TKD record: lost count after 100, Trivial Pursuit record: undefeated.

Certifications? Yes. Several. I am licensed under the Utah State Athletic Commission among other things.

Never trained in kung fu or JKD, but I have read a few books about them.

The tape job I showed is the one I prefer for MMA. For Muay Thai & kickboxing, I use a lot more tape, especially around the wrists.

  • holy shiet... i´ve being doing it wrong the whole time LOL (wrapped between the pinky and ring finger... oops good thing nothing happened) well thx!

  • you think it's ok to hit a hitting bag without these wraps? Are there other benefits besides protecting the hand and wrists from injuring, when using wraps during training on a bag. I'm hitting the bag bare knuckle and without wraps and especially my left hand/wrist is very weak i feel. actually my question is this. What is the best/FASTEST way to strenghten your hands? without wraps and not hitting as hard or with wraps and able to hit harder?

  • i'm using a self made bag btw.Its made of 70% lycra and filled with sand & small stones,it absorbs the hits well. Its about as big as 1 & 1/2 head and weighs about 10-15 kgs.I use it to condition my skin, muscles, tendons and bones.Usually it is just my skin hurting, but when i use my left hand,i feel the muscles and tendons being very weak.A full power hook i can't do with either of the hands (even with boxing gloves).could it be that my bag is to heavy,or should i do extra power training,or both?

  • Yes, you can hit a bag without wraps. Wraps and tape are simply to reinforce the wrist/hand connection.

I'd say it's important to learn how that connection works barehanded before using wraps- however, go easy at first. Conditioning is a very gradual process. There's no fast, safe way to condition your hands. It's going to take some time. I've been conditioning my hands for years, and I did it without wraps.

  • A heavy solidly packed heavy bag is one of the best conditioning tools. If you've got sand and rocks in your bag, that may be too hard to start with. Take your sand bag down every once in a while and roll it around on the floor so it doesn't solidify.

Another conditioning technique I have used is to get a solid piece of wood or a taped-up old phone book and to tap or hit it repeatedly every other day.

Knuckle push ups are one of the best exercises for conditioning your fists and wrists.

  • thanks a lot! fast reply

  • sry balletman i wathced this vid again and err u know the knuckle push up part rite u put pressure on ur 2 big knuckles or the 3 lower knuckles? and how many is recommended to do everyday? thx

  • Try to do pushups on your first 2 knuckles (index and ring finger)

How many you do a day is entirely dependent on how tough you want to be. I'd say, do as many as you can in a row at least once a day, and the next day, try to do at least one more.

  • hhahaha k thx for the good tips again i iwll begin my training now. THx a million

  • wait after the last part part (taping and wraping) you use the canvas on that? or is an alternative way? (just use the gloves on them)

  • The last part is athletic tape over under-wrap (or gauze if you want). No canvas wraps are involved.

  • i love your new videos, they look much more professional now!!

unfortunately you made a little mistake pointing out the knuckles of that skeleton hand you show twice. the two bones you point out in red belong to the carpus, which are located inside the palm of the hand. the joints you actually meant are about 2-3 inches towards the tip of the finger. just count the joints: the 3rd joints are the ones to hit with, the 4th (which you point out) are already close to the wrist

  • You're right! I can't believe I missed that! Wow. I need to double check my charts before I post them. Thanks for pointing that out.

  • i love your new videos, they look much more professional now!!

  • thanks , very useful , I have a question though , I've managed to cut my knuckles on my punching bag ....and ever time I try to train the cut opens up again ...do you know any quick ways to get the cut healed?? ...(other than stoping training for a week ), thanks

  • If it's a broken callous, you can super-glue it back together. I have extremely calloused knuckles and I do that from time to time.

Also, get a good pair of bag gloves to lessen the abrasion the bag causes on your hands.

Wraps, tape and even foam pads under gloves can help a lot if you are working around a minor injury.

In short, if you are working bare-knuckle with a heavy bag, the cut won't heal because it's being aggravated every time you punch.

  • ok thanks , I do have gloves but they're crappy cloth tae kwon do sparring forarm and hand pads ..put together, My knuckles got cut when I was using them lol(they do even cover my knuckles unless I bent my rist in a very strange way) , so I'm hoping to get some good quality mma gloves for christmas and mabye some wraps ..

  • k thx man. Sorry to ask u 1 more question u know ur vidoe called: set-ups and speed for combat sport" right? the part u showed about kicking to develop the hips thing rite? how many times msut it be done to develop speed?

I do about 30 times for 3 sets it is good? thx i would hope u can give me tips ! ty

  • Feel free to ask all the questions you want, whenever you want.

As far as developing fast twitch muscles around the hip-flexors for butterfly kicks, consistency is probably the most important thing. 3 sets of 30 sounds great. Make sure to practice on a regular basis. Then when that becomes easy, try adding more repetitions and/or sets. Also, since you are working for speed, try timing yourself on each set and working to beat your previous time.

  • waaw i dint think of that thx man ur th best ! So ahh to develop round house kicks rite is it the same training method to develop speed? thx . Ur the best !

  • It will help. But to practice doing solidly grounded roundhouse kicks quickly, you must practice the actual kick you intend to use. Try alternating between butterfly drills and normal roundhouse kicks. For example, see how many round kicks you can throw in a minute, etc...

  • balletman u hv been very useful and imformative towards me i would like to thank u very very much.I will be going to train somemore on my round house kick again but i hv 1 more question =( i do the round house kick with firstly right leg then left for 20 reps of 4-5 sets as fast as possibel so it is good? thx

  • thx for the previous reply it was quick and very good advice there but i hv 1 more question. Err i not sure wheter to do knuckle pushu ups u see i heard that it could deform ur hand u see so my question is aged ranging from 12-16 is it a qualified age to do kunckle push ups? thx

  • If you're between ages 12-16, then your bones are still developing and growing. For this reason, heavy weight lifting is usually discouraged at this age. With pushups, since you are only working with your own body weight, that's not an issue. However, just to be safe, do knuckle pushups on softer surface like a mat, carpet, towel, or while wearing gloves (especially if you are just starting) out)

  • k thx u very much . 1 more how about punching the wall? is it ok and another thing is dat how hard to punch the wall is it full or half power? since i dont hv a heavy bag . thx again

  • hi balletman its a long tiem since we talked hahaha. I hv a question after watching ur videos. U say always hit the leg with the shin rite? Like which part of the shin must u hit and how near the opponent is in order to kick his leg? thx

  • hi balletman its been a long itme since we talked. I hv already type this before but i think u hv not read it so i will retype my question. I saw ur other videos u say we must kick with the shin to the leg rite? But 1 thing which part of the hin the lower or the upper and how near u must be to the opponet if u want to kick his leg? thx i iwll appreciate any kind of tips u would give me . Thx again

  • I just got back from out of state, hence the delay.

A shin kick should ideally be delivered with the lower half of the shin- the area above the foot, about 6-12 inches depending on how long your legs are. You should aim for the middle of the thigh.

Also, If you are close enough to connect with a jab, you're close enough to land a leg kick.

  • thx you very very much at last i know how to connect a leg kick cause u see i always hv problems hitting with the shin and the thing. So 2 more questions can i hit with the upper half of the shin and can i hit the lower part of the thigh? thx ur very helpful ^_^

  • thats dangerous... since its close to the knee you can injure yourself

  • thx Daeron15 for telling me cause i always hit with my upper shin u see so thax now i hv a wider knowledge . bro peace out

  • hey mechphantom long time no see you cant hit the upper shin to the tigh because it will break your leg so it is dangeruos

  • That's a good point. Also, even if you don't injure yourself kicking with the upper part of the shin, you will be working with a much shorter lever and wouldn't be able to generate enough force to do serious damage to your opponent. basically, it would hurt you more than him.

  • yup.Umm ballet i have a question i saw many ufc fighter punching their opponent solarplexus. The question is where is the slor plexes located and how to locate when fighting? thx buddy

  • The solar plexus is actually a complex bundle of nerves inside the abdomen. A strike to the abdomen is often referred to as a strike to the solar plexus. In a fight, you usually don't have time to get technical about exact locations, so if you want to damage the solar plexus, aim for the abdomen roughly around the navel.

  • k thx balletman.I have i very very important question.I haven mastered this thing for so many years. And the question is how to be not scared when gangster bully me.I usually scared and i wont fight back if the gangster bully me cause im scarred so pls can you tell me how to clam down when poeple bully me thx balletman=]

  • A lot of people have been asking me similar questions lately. I'll make a video about it. It's all about using adrenaline to your advantage. There's a lot to that.

  • ahha thx balletman and sry for replying late thx.

  • haah thx also UFcfighter for telling dat out. No wonder they call u ufc profighter haha

  • Also, yes, in an outside leg kick, you can kick the lower part of your opponent's thigh. However, I recommend aiming for the mid thigh because that's the center of the thoracic band, which controls stability for standing.

If you kick lower, aim for the side of the knee, but watch out for a shin check.

  • haha thx for telling me this tips now i hv a better understanding to do a leg kcik so thx ur the best

  • hi balletman haha sry for replying u too soon . I hv a question , when u do a leg kick right must u keep ur leg bent when u hit the leg or straight even if u connects it? thx

  • With a round kick, your leg should be bent while swinging, and straighten after following through the target. Since you are trying to kick through a solid target, your leg will probably be a little bent upon impact. For a good overhead visual of this concept, look at the Thai kick video from mbenson001 type "Thai Kick" in the search bar. It's the first video.

  • k thx balletman thoguht i hv 1 more quesytion T_T. U know i saw many karate videos most of them kick the inner thighs.I know its good to kick the outer thight but can i kick the inner thighs and which part again is the best to hit? is it the same as the outer the middel? thx and sry

  • No need to apologize. The inner thigh is a good target. It won't have quite the same effect as the outer thigh, but it can cause a lot of pain, and if your opponent is unbalanced, it can knock him down. An inner thigh kick with the lead leg is also good to set up an attack with the right hand. (See my video "Switch Kick" for more details)

  • haha try wrapping them... what i do is put a lil bandage and wrap it on it works for me...

  • hey balletman vcan i ask u something? u know knuckle push up right? can u do it on soft surfaces like carpets ? thx

  • Absolutely.

In fact, when you start out, you should do knuckle push-ups on a softer surface like a mat or a carpet.

  • haha k thx ur the best. and 1 more thing i alos hv the same problem like wat ufc211 said everytime i cut my hand i hv to wait long time in order to train. But if i cut my bare knuckle rite will it leave a scar? thx

  • A cut could leave a scar if it's deep enough. If you look closely at my left ear, for example, you'll see the scar from when they reattached it after my first kickboxing match.

The good news about scars is they make you look tough, and they usually have cool stories to go with them.

Again, if cuts and abrasions on your hands are a problem, wear gloves when you use a heavy bag. Thanks again for watching.
