  • im eating natto now

  • i suggest you don't even let your chopsticks touch this stuff because the smell does not go away easily.

  • Thank you <3

  • Sa-Chan!! Lol

  • @sam17simba thats why I'm here now ^o^"

  • Natto wo tabenai!!!!!! XD Don't wanna eat Natto!!!! XD

  • that looks appetizing.

  • i loooove natto and i'm not japanese!!! : P

  • @maybelatta I'm not Japanese either but I love natto. I'm craving for it.

  • I appreciate this How To Eat video more after watching the Western voice explaining How to Make- but I would not make it but buy instead. This is a very beneficial food. Again, ty for sharing.

  • TY for the informative video.

  • Natto contains more Vitamin K2 than any other source and particularly since other sources are meat, this is a great way for vegans to "eat right". K2 is what Dr. Weston Price called "activator X", the (then) mysterious ingredient responsible for great health in the traditional cultures he studied.

  • When I first ate natto I almost threw up. Several years later, I tried to eat it again and it was very good! It's now one of my most favorite Japanese food :)

  • idk why some people don't like this. when i was little at first i didnt like it to be honest. now i love it xD

  • I want to eat Natto. but my location did not sell.

  • Natto is so good!

  • I hate natto soooooo much :|...

  • I'm trying to know about Natto because this is KAMIJO's (of Versailles) favorite food.

  • i LOVE NATTO! well for me, i don't really eat it with raw egg, but with friend egg and natto =9 yummy

  • I eat it with beer.

  • I love it. I don't notice the smell though. The first time I ate it I hated just because the was so strange.

  • Comment removed

  • high in vitamin K2

  • I don't get disturbed by the smell, only the taste. =//=

  • jesus christ that is slow...

  • natto tastes like bin juice.

  • Tonight we dine on Lutefisk and Haggis Natto, yum yum

  • I heard there are a lot of different types of natto. are they really that different? what differences them? taste, texture, size..? what is the usual type of natto you can find in europe?

  • Nice.

  • am I the only one who thinks it looks delicious??... I want to eat natto !!!

  • @BillyViBritannia In my opinion the smell isn't that bad. I actually think that it smells, somewhat, like coffee and even tastes like it too. Then again I eat chinese fermented soybeans all the time XD

  • ( Continued) If you guys don't have anything nice to say then please don't say it. In fact why are you watching this video if you think it's disgusting? Just move on with your life and live the way you want to live. Not commenting on a video doesn't mean you'll die the next day.

  • ._. why the hell are you guys so rude to a different culture's food? Sure giving your opinion is good at times but saying things like it looks like shit or that it tastes like shit is rude. Natto is said to give a lot of protein and even the japanese themselves say it's a taste u get used to and begin to love the more you eat it. If someone else said that the food you eat is disgusting or looks like shit wouldn't you be offended in some way?

  • why would you want to eat that? looks like fox shit in snort

  • im getting some natto tommorow im scared ;( it doesnt taste like its smell btw y'all

  • @TheJunoo You Koreans don't have to watch Japan-related videos if you don't like Japan. You're dissing Japan all over the Youtube. It's disgusting.

  • it feels like im watching a aperture science presentation brain washing u into eating natto, it works.

  • I just bought some natto, and was wanting to re-familiarize myself with how to eat it. With rice seems the most basic way, and I can try just rice and natto, rice and natto with soy sauce, and even rice and natto with cheese.

I can also try ramen and natto. This Saturday, perhaps, I will try that.

I might end up hating natto, but then again I might like it. It was only about three, not quite four dollars to get a little bit. Worth the risk.

  • ...continued

this morning, I opened a Japanese cookbook to a random page, and the recipe was for miso soup with natto. The author claimed this was a good way to get used to natto, as it's mild and non-sticky.

I had all the ingredients on hand, so I made it - rinsing the natto in a strainer to remove the stickiness.

It's good. Prepared this way, natto is mild, and has a savoury flavour; I finished two bowls of soup (containing an entire packet of natto). I will make this again.

  • mmmm rotten soybeans TASTY!!

so goo for me health and deliciously

  • enjoy natto!! XD

  • yeah sasuke uchiha says he doesn't like natto or sweet things

  • looooooooooooooooooool

  • 英語でがんばりましたね!

  • lol. Natto - fermented soy beans. Soy Sauce - fermented soy beans. Awesome.

  • @cbtiff Also, miso paste = fermemted soy beans. I guess if you combined all three you'd have a fermented fiasco, lol.

  • fermented is euphemism for rotten

  • @lbarna66 - No it isn't. Rotten has been partially metabolized by bacteria which have turned it unfit for human consumption. The bacteria themselves are most often parasitic to humans. Fermented has been done the same but by bacteria which have altered it fit for human consumption...often even conducive to human consumption. The bacteria are often symbiotic with human digestion, or die during the fermentation process. Yummy wine, beer, yeast dough and cheeses all have fermentation going on.

  • looks good i want some

  • MMMMM, MMMMM BITCH!

  • Thank you. I have hear a lot about the benefis of natto and now you have helped me to learn the many ways to eat it.

  • Thank you. I have heard a lot about Natto and it's health benefits. Now I know many ways to eat it!!

  • I just ate it at first. I wanted to vomit the whole time I was forcing it down.. didn't want to waste food x..x IT WAS SO NASTY

  • please mix well it taste good I laughed so fucking hard

  • No, ma'am, the smell and flavor are fine by me; I've had Limburger cheese and liked it. It's the TEXTURE of nattou that messes with my palate and brain.

  • it taste good.

    more than you think.

  • "The flavour becomes smiled." I chuckled.

  • problem is this stuff is so pricey >_<.... im still hungery after a bowl of natto+rice

    -from canada

  • @Commandos12 you're lucky you can find it at all, i swear its unheard of over here! Dx

  • @sapphire2005 I think she meant mild...

  • easy to eat

  • I always think of beans covered in melted marshmallows when I see Natto, but the taste is the opposite lol. But I really recommend people to mix it with a some other dish before you eat it.

  • step one: put in mouth. step two: chew until you can swallow. step three: swallow

  • @Didgedy Ever had this stuff? It starts off feeling like cold snot and only gets worse if you chew it up -- it becomes -warm- snot and gets even more slick and gooey. The more you agitate it, the nastier its texture gets. Best bet: take it with a big wad of rice and mustard, and swallow it right down. For Pete's sake, DO NOT disturb it much before putting it in your mouth, or you will likely regret it!

  • I'm sorry, but this video was made 2 years ago and I've moved to a different school. The students who made that video have graduated and I don't know where they are! I'm glad that this video is still popular after so many years!

  • Thanks for the information! I enjoy Natto, but it is somewhat difficult to eat with good manners. Could you make a video related to how we should eat Natto politely?

  • @11889music

u need to add alitte more moisture to ur natto and then u need to stir them really well

if u do stir well the slime will not be so streatchy, then u can pick the beans up using a chopsticks

  • A raw egg- cause rotten soybeans just aren't gross enough on their own!

  • @Phendraana lol they aren't rotten, they are fermented. there is a big difference. And Eggs produced in Japan are not like Eggs in America. American Chickens are fed all kinds of additives and hormones, while most chickens in Japan are fed natural chicken feed

  • @Phendraana they put raw egg on almost everything over there >.>

  • @Phendraana They aren't rotten; they're fermented. :D

  • @Phendraana

There's a difference between "fermented" and "rotten".

  • @Phendraana , mushrooms are " rotten" as well, so is alcohol...

  • @ORSINOart Mushrooms aren't "rotten". Fungi are detritovores. They break down organic molecules.

  • @Phendraana If that's how you put it, so's cheese. It's rotten and curdles milk.

  • @Phendraana Fermented = rotten? so cheese is rotten milk and wine is rotten grapes? They didn't seem so disgusting before.. :P

  • @candygms I see your point, but this stuff just looks like snot on beans. I don't see how anyone can actually put this in their mouth without gagging.

Now that I think about it, I'm not that crazy about cheese & wine either :X

  • @Phendraana haha.. well, it really depends on how one thinks about it I guess... cooked lady's fingers are pretty slimy too.. some people don't like it because of that, while others like it precisely because of its texture. :)

  • @Phendraana Bread is leavened with the farts of millions of wee little beasties :D Delicious, aromatic farts. ^^

  • lol it tastes...good

  • not so much the smell, the texture doesn´´t exist in western foods. i mean this slimy sensation in your mouth. けどたべられます

  • so polite lol "please mix well"

  • @bluesteel0308 She sounds sweet. At least she has manners ;)

  • @bluesteel0308 It's because of the grammar in Japanese language. "Kudasai" at the end of the sentence is somewhat similar to "please" in English.

  • @ylfriends awesome:)

  • Woah that natto toast looked amazing, so did the curry and rice, and the miso soup idea too! WOW YOU CAN DO A LOT WITH NATTO!!! When I have my first experience with natto, I'll definitely try all of those! And the idea with mayonnaise... sounds strangely... appetizing... well I'm asian, so I think I MIGHT have ate natto as a kid... but I don't know...oh well who cares! :D

  • I do not really think it looks strange - - - it is more the other way around, it looks delicious! Especially the video shows the different uses of Natto, it makes it more interesting!

Every country has got "different" foods with diffent smells, and this video says "Hey! Please try this, too! This is good!"

The voice for this video sounds very nice and enthusiastic. I like this video very much! Thank you so much for uploading!!!!

  • 納豆はどう食ってもうまいよ。ポテトチップスに乗せれば、パクパクいけるぜ。

  • I just tried Natto for the first time in the styrofoam container. Just mixed it up with the soy sauce and mustard it came with. IT WAS GREAT. Although, I can see it being an aquired taste for Westerners. Thanks for the vid. It gave me a lot of great ideas.

  • Is there such a thing as organic natto ?

I wouldn't wish to try it if its heavily sprayed with pesticides and genetically modified.

  • wow you sound enthusiastic xD

  • ewwwwwww lol :)

  • i love natto

  • natto is really good ;) i love it so much. if white ppl actually werent so picky about their stupid hamburgers they would enjoy this much more

  • im eating it right now! i just got the sushi from a japanese grocery chain.. interesting!

  • do you cook the egg?

  • @megamanxdeath

for some japanese dishes like udon soup or natto on rice, you use raw egg. the egg is only slightly cooked by the heat from the food.

sometimes you dip food in raw egg before you eat it.

So you have to make sure the egg is very fresh and the chicken lives under clean condition.

Also cleaning the egg with soap water, dippin it in vinegar shortly and then drying it will clean the shell, so when you crack it you will not get germs from the shell on your fingers or in the dish

  • Thanks for the video! I didn't realize the importance of mixing the natto thoroughly. I usually just mix it a few times. I like natto mixed with kimchi on toast. I also like it with avocado on toast. Next I'll try it in miso soup and also I'll try it with mayo.

  • @mrceebees14:

I doubt many people will take you seriously when you write in such a rude and condescending manner. This video is for people who like natto. If you don't like it then don't post here. People like you want to have somewhere where they can stand with a microphone and bleat out their alarmist ideas. Maybe soy isn't a health food, but in acceptable quantities, it is far from unhealthy. Soy hate and meat worship is the current health food FAD. It will be something else tomorrow. =)

  • It looks jummy! I love people with little eyes!:D Love their language! Theire culture!!

  • Soy is crap, most sprayed food ever and it's blocks other proteins from being absorbed.

  • @mrceebees14 Soy is good.... Tofu is made from soy beans and it is said that tofu is good for you and Soy has a lot of proteins

  • @artz900 Soy is cheap crap, it's the most sprayed food in the world, ESPECIALLY by the Japanese.

It also is a selfish protein because it blocks other proteins from being absorbed properly. The only way to unblock that is by eating red meat, the enzymes in red meat will break it.

  • @mrceebees14 But soybeans is proved by scientist its good for you and soy beans is not crap its good natto is good as well.... you probably just never tried it

  • @artz900 Proved by scientists where? Everyone knows Soy is crap, why do you think Japan eats so much of it, it's cheap to grow, but it is heavily attacked by bugs so they spray the hell out of it.

Soy is garbage, better off eating meat.

  • @mrceebees14 It is proved by scientist it is good for your health... you just can't think right... why go hate soybeans? soybeans are used to make a lot of products and used in many ways

  • @artz900 Your English is brutal.

If you like putting a shit load of pesticides and herbicides into you body, then be my guest.

  • @mrceebees14 It is proved by scientist that soy beans are good for you. Studies of Soybeans suggest that populations eating diets high in soy-based foods have a lower incidence of breast cancer, prostate cancer and menopausal problems.

  • @mrceebees14 There is a difference between organic, non organic, fermented, and non fermented soy.

  • @InferiorThanYou

Mostly all of it is sprayed, it's the most commercial sprayed food you can buy. Since Japan has such little land, they have to make sure that that crop is very protected.

Soy is crap for that reason, but crap for the other I mentioned, it's a selfish protien no matter how it's raised.

  • @mrceebees14 Dr. Mercola recommends it. That should say something.

  • @mrceebees14

sorry, you just show that you do have no knowledge about farming, different crops and other things which are the matter here.

First, everything is sprayed, only 10% of the soy is used as human food. 90% of it is used as fodder for farm animals.

second. soy which is grown as farm animal food is more massively sprayed than soy for human consumption.

it contains roughly 20 times more residues.

japanese soy is not more sprayed than american soy

  • @Morrigayne The hell it is, what cave do you live in? I am in the nutrition feild and have been over there and seen it being sprayed like crazy.

It's called the "most commercial food" for a reason, they spray the hell out of it.

  • mmm kimchi natto

  • おいしそう

  • yum dirrhea paste.

  • Looks as tasty as the badly cut guitar loop underneath.

  • Has anyone ever tried it with the raw egg? Im interested to try it.

  • it's the only way I eat it.

  • Raw egg and green onions! Mmmm

  • ok. natto, the smell isnt what makes it gross. its the texture. its like... snot. aaargz. id have to have it super hidden in something else to get natto down.

  • I just like my natto with a bit of miso and maybe some sesame oil which usually comes in the package. I just discard the mustard, I find I don't enjoy the flavour of the mustard.

I am Canadian and have no desire to be Japanese. I tried the natto because somebody challenged me to do it, and then I found that I quite liked it. Natto is a regular part of my diet now because it is very healthy and delicious.:)

  • この食べ方、邪道だろう~

  • I'm half japanese and i can tell you, it TRULY annoys me how many japanese wannabes there are out there. NO they don't usually mix it with fuckin wasabi...only if it is in sushi. every method listed in this is not usually how they eat this authentically. they usually just add sweetened soy sauce, spicy JAPANESE mustard...NOT regular mustard...and green onions. and btw...american japanese accents are really bad. and to the kimchi dude, it originated in korea but japanese kimchi is better

  • Lol, a japanese wannabe. azn pride hee hee.

  • @G04i77A2 I'm not quite sure if you meant that Japanese kimchi taste better compared to Korean's or Japanese Kimchi taste better with natto compared to Korean's but either way, that doesn't give you the right to make that statement because everyone has their own preference (let's not try to create a fight with Koreans). However, I do agree...that this video is quite weird...and NATTO'S AWESOME.

  • i meant in general, but i understand what you mean. If you've never tried japanese kimchi....please try it...preference is oh so real, but so is good food...there is always a majority when it comes to good food or we'd all be eating shit. Japanese kimchi is a little less spicy and a bit more salty and tasteful.

  • Tochigi-Ken, Utsunomiya-Shi ni Natto Miso Ramen tabeta, tottemo oishii

  • EW man...natto miso ramen? that sounds gross...the mixture of the three sounds way too salty and way weird.

  • i run out of mustard so i use wasabi instead and mix with the soy sauce provided. the natto rice taste better than that with soy sauce alone but is it usual in japan to mix with wasabi?

  • OMG !! I totally have to try kimchee with natto! (I'll just have to try it when nobody else is home or they'll be opening the windows!)

  • i want to me eat your natto lol

  • Asian acsent

  • this video is awesome i want to try curry natto

  • dude man, you can't just take different asian foods and slap them together expecting them to be good....that would be like me slapping together steak and whip cream...curry is meant to be eaten separate.

  • cute voice.

  • not everyone has the same accent when speaking different languages, how I sound when I speak japanese and how you sound may be different...

Aside from that, Great Video Thanks!!

I had natto once in japan and couldnt eat it, recently tried again when I got back home and liked it!

  • YEA KIMCHI

kimchi korean remember that peoples, so if you want kimchi youll prob have to go to korean store not japanese, if it is at japanese its prob not as good as korean (obviously because it korean) and to japs, dont copy kimchi from us korean, it basicly symbolyses of (or the food atleast) thats like us taking sushi from u guys

  • Thank you for showing the way to eat Natto, as I was really struggling to eat it for the first time. I will try to eat it with the few ways that you've shown to us. I think with miso sounds great to me :)

  • man, this thing wil make you freakin puke if you smell it!

  • yo i just bought this stuff today and tried it... didn't like it.. the vinegar in it burned my tongue lol. i'll give it a another chance with miso tommorrow. (i went to mitsuwa in NJ btw to get it).

  • i eat miso. It tastes great.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Natto should be eaten the way it should: with rice!!

  • ma dio cane solo sti stronzi cn gli okki a manmdorla mang sta roba

  • Some nice ideas there :)

  • でも本当さあ

    なっとは美味しいよね!毎日ように食べるみたいよ。体にいいし、ずいぶん美味しいし、めちゃ安いからね。三つは99円で買えるよ。

    すごく便利じゃない?!?

  • 1) I live in Japan

    2) I speak Japanese

    3) I live in an international house with many Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Mexicans, etc.

I know what people sound like. Especially when speaking English...

    so....I really don't think so

  • .. maybe that´s true but check her site and then tell me she´s not japanese

  • Hey, whats the name of the international house?

  • i am very sorry for you !!! really,

  • it´s obvious is a japanese person. look at the credits and listen to her accent

  • She is definitely Japanese. If you listen to her vowels sound like Japanese vowels. Ahh, Eee, Uuu, Ehhh, Ohhh.

So the word "after" will be pronounced

"Ahhftaa", "first" will be "fahhst" in accordance with Japanese pronunciation.

There are many examples of this throughout.

Last but not least. She said "Mahhyohhnehhzu"

where we would usually say "May as in the 5th month to make "mayonnaise".

  • I love natto! Thanks for the ideas. I put it on my oatmeal for breakfast with a tiny bit of sugar.

  • Usually, They don't do it.

  • Is it really that bad?

  • Natto with ketchup and mustard.

Natto with cat food. They look the same.

Natto with garden grass. Some believe it tastes like sallad.

Natto in coat milk. Boil it well.

Natto with sake. For one spoon of natto drink 1 bottle of sake.

  • Natto miso soup is my favourite. I boil Natto in miso soup.

  • I've never ate it and I'm not sure I'd like it but I certainly am will to try it! I congratulate you three on making this video!

  • Natto with cheese on toast is really surprisingly good

  • That's not "the general way in Japan" to prepare natto at all. You add soysource AFTER mixing, not before. Otherwise natto won't be sticky enough. ウソを堂々と教えるんじゃないよ。

  • i love natto so much, i wish i had a car to get some right now

  • NATTO!!!

  • The Japanese girl in this video is cute with her simple English words. No insult, I just think it's cute and nice :)

  • Yeah mee tooo! I love her accent! It's quite peaceful and relaxing.

And actually, Natto doesn't look that bad. I want to try it with some beans, tortilla and carne asada. I love Japanese stuff!

  • You covered almost all the recipe except the one with green onions! Good job!! (I am from Osaka.)

  • Great!, I'm gonna homebrew natto, setup a stall and sell some natto dishes :)

  • Natto is quite hard to get used to. What bothers me is not the smell, but the taste and the goo (texture) contained in some of the natto I've tried.

I'll give these recipes a shot too (I like the one with egg and maybe some gohan), since I know it's a nutritious aliment and since I firmly believe liking natto is just a matter of getting used to it.

Thanks for the video! I'm actually hungry now.

  • It's not just foreigners, you know... lots of people in Osaka don't like Natto either.

That said, Natto is one of the last traditional Japanese foods that I have yet to get used to (whale meat I simply refuse to eat on principle), so maybe I'll give a few of these recipes a shot.

  • disgusting rofl
