@bobworthinton - the on camera guitarist is wayne 'twenty fingers' tomlinson (of the barbeque juiceheads), finger syncing perfectly to ernie 'sexray' lancaster's brilliant haunting solo. both are still around and playing.
I remember Root Boy Slim...an icon with a fantastic who's who of musicans and artist surrounding. Good old days. Thanks for posting. I remember when I did my own Root Boy Slim t-shirt before any were available..
@Garzog what root is doing with this video is very good a republican comitteman named ralph degenaro said homeless people are all mentaly ill leave them there then he stole my towel from the locker room stole a womans hair dryer that he seduced when she was married with 2 kids and ruined her marriage If i was him id be liveing in antartica with a bullet proof vest around my face her husband might be looking for him real low class italian trash .
Wow! Had no idea he had died .I knew he was around a couple years back. Back at the end of the 70's my friends and I were laughing our asses off to this guy. Dare To Be Fat was a fave and who coild forget Boogie Till You Puke. Hope he shakes hands with Screamin Jay Hawkins in the afterworld
One day he took a lot of LSD and went to the White House and climbed the fence. (He later explained that he "was looking for the center of the universe.") He was apprehended by the Secret Service as he ran up the lawn toward the White House. He was the first intruder since the War of 1812 to get completely over the fence.
I am not neither a Bush supporter nor other presidential candidates in the office today. I think all parties are way too extremes. It's all about power and greed anyway. I think PINK and JAVELYN songs "Mr. President" both have great messages. Even though both parties are not in sink with each other. The good thing about America is freedom of speech!
this ass "arnoldg" spammed a lot of youtube message boards with ads for "javelyn" who is nothing but a SHILL for the neo-cons who wrecked this country, hopefully not irreparably.
Great video by Dick Bangham, Artist, Director, AND a Rootette, to boot! BTW...you're hearing my guitar on the track, but seeing Wayne Tomlinson in the video. He's a hellacious guitarist and he did a great job of 'fingersyncin''on here!
Root, many good times Back Room, Pier7, Garfields, and Charlies West Side. Root always had props Blow-up Doll,or around the holidays he`d be wraped in Christmas lights and lit. I went upstairs with him after his last set at Charlies one night and smoked blonde hash for a while he bout coughed his fucking brains out. He songs were about his life he did go to jail in Jacksonville, piss on the Pentagon climb the White House fence etc etc. Glad I lived through it. Later
love ya root, the stardust, paragon and everywhere else. I have my lp's and yes i still have my root glasses.someone suould put the tapes on cd.i'll continue to keep my mud flap on. check out ron halloways cd schorcher kick ass
actually someone seems to have pushed too many of your ON buttons. Root Boy (before he died, alias Otis Miami) played the White House twice and was in the same college at the same time with George Bush. The Bush family is quite familiar with Otis' music.
Rattlesnake Rattles was my uncle (married to my dad's sister). I never saw him live, but I saw him play with Root Boy on "Mr. Mike's Mondo Video". It looked like him playing bass in this video, too, but I'm not sure.
I've been looking EVERYWHERE for Root's World War III. I would LOVE to find the song but even the lyrics are not around it seems. If ANYONE can help PLEASE DO....
You're in luck my friend! We're working on a World War III music video (with footage of Slim in the studio when he recorded it way back in '78) to coincide with a special collector's edition CD release of ZOOM which has been remastered from the original master and sounds fantastic! Details will be posted on the rootboyslim website soon and if you sign up on the root loop email list you'll be the first to hear when it will be available. db
I was kinda high, when the bust when down, dozing and drilling and shuffling around.....In Jail, In Jacksonville..... Root Boy was ONE OF A KIND! I remember seeing him on his home turf at the Psyche Deli in Bethesda, MD, a fan hands him a big joint out of the crowd which he takes a long toke and replies, "Only at the Psyche Deli." I also remember going to his 40th birthday party show at the Wax Museum.
I've been doing gigs the past 3 years with Root's guitar player and music arranger/writer; Ernie Lancaster. He's got a cool web site, and some other orignal tunes to listen to. He does all the guitar parts, in those tunes and on the root Boy records. He's not well known, but he should be! Great Player.
Glad to see Bangham finally crack the vault on this footage even if it took twenty years. I didn't know Root boy personally but always admired his sense of humor, talent, gusto and singing style. Muddy Zombie will be putting up a version WWIII by Slim here shortly. Special thanks to Andrew Singer and Joe Lee for supporting my efforts when others did every thing they could to run me away. Might be a root movie one day and it looks like I'll be the one making it.
well I'd like to make a movie of Root but you know how things are. Someone should make a movie with old footage if not his life story staring Johnny Depp. :)
Thanks Dick, it's great to see Root Boy again. Sure do miss him, but he's a timeless soul. Too bad we can't hear what he would have to say today! He always had a way of making us laugh, instead of crying... Keep em coming. Will S.
But at one time it sucked less. For example, the federal government paid my college tuition because I was poor, and now I pay more taxes every year than the government paid out 40 years ago for my college. Reagan and Bush I dismantled that program. So now it really REALLY sucks to be a poor kid with no way to get ahead...
Spent a few 4th of July Smoke Ins in DC with Root back in the day. Sure miss him. Lucky to survive some of his concerts. Had a lot of great times with the Root. Will always miss him. Need more of his shows here.
I filmed this in '92 when George the 1st was running against Clinton. Slim is spinning in his grave now that George the worst is running the country into the ground. Yes, there's more... stay tuned!
Who's the guitar player? Still around playing and recording?

Thanks Dick for putting this up - I never knew there
was any Root Boy video out there but my buddy Jerry
sent me the link to this and I was amazed. Slim was
looking great in this one. Amazing how his political
message was never more true - he was years ahead of
his time.
