  • SCIENCE RULES!!!!

  • I jerked off listening to this in the background.

    Was awesome.

  • Omg pancakes. So stoned.

  • 0:32:39 He is so right on people running from problems rather than trying to face them. I know a song just about running. Might just motivate some to stop. *EDAN* - Why you Runnin'?

  • 1:11:00

    3 Dead people

    1. Surfer

    2. Weatherman

    3. Religious nut (thinks 2nd coming of Christ)

  • SCIENCE RULES!!!!

  • I'd so like to meet Neil. Also, i'd sooo like to meet the gorgeous woman in the beginning. She's so beautiful :))

  • Hey people with problems on Earth. When it comes to that dreaded day, in which the world ends, and we didn't fund NASA or other space programs, and we don't have any planet to escape to, then you will have much larger problems than the ones you have now.

  • Compare and contrast this with a black preacher in the church.

    So proud of Tyson

  • @nsugathadasa: Not a fair comparison. Tyson would be godly.

  • @chinopisces Correct :)

  • amazing!! I wonder how they can ask him questions? when he rendered them speechless...

  • 2:30

  • @adraim69 THAAAANK YOUUU!!

  • Neil Degrasse Tyson is in the same league as Richard Feynman and Carl Sagan. He's so much like Feynman. That's what we need today, a preacher of Science!

  • FUCK, WHENEVER SOMEONE SAYS "UM", I KEEP GETTING DISTRACTED.

  • I feel sorry for the first girl.

  • @drummerboysareawesom lol me too

  • hes like a stand up comedian mixed with an astro physicist.

epic combination. jus tmakes learning funner some how lol.

  • He's like a black smart version of Seth Rogan :D

  • I have to let this off my chest...

Woah, we got a badass over here

  • For some reason I started crying when he was talking about becoming the Director and signing those certificates. Such passion and such love is inspiring to me. Thank you!

  • lol hate mail from 3rd graders! Neil is hilarious! XD

  • If i had this guy as my science teacher I would have straight A's.

  • @stoxy10 I have straight A's, you don't. I'm a winner, and you? Well, I'll let you guess what you are.

  • @WHIREAS no you don't have straight A's, you my friend are a troll.

  • Oh my god this is awesome

  • 2:25 tyson

  • I want to marry Dr. Tyson :P

  • wow thats all i can say, this is the stuff we should be interested in.

  • His presence is amazing.. A great speaker and would have given anything to have him as a professer

  • Science cafes are great! (We are organizing science cafes in Mexico City since October, 2011)

  • OMG is it Raj at 59:19 ?

  • I've got such brainer right now <3

  • @Regnberg hahaha.. classic

  • I'm from a Muslim background, now a skeptic. The story of the Islamic age of enlightenment did have a theological component but it coincided with an economic downturn as well. A deadly concoction. But I seriously doubt that anything like that will happen in America. In every society there are forces that threaten progress, but the Al-Ghazalis in America are not winning, skepticism is increasing and the internet is far too ingrained to allow any segment to dominate.

  • @superhamzah85

Take Bill O'Reilly for example - he isn't championed, he is far more satirized than respected. America will not collapse into a dark ages of oblivion, it will most likely just whither and stabilize into a 'great' power rather than a 'super' power. With the rise of other nation's science institutions and the continued status of Europe, I am quite optimistic that overall - the direction is onwards and upwards without relent.

  • Whoa, look at the proportion of likes to dislikes!

I think that tells you something about Dr. Tyson!

  • Interesting how the man who "needs no introduction" gets an introduction. -_-

  • That's my best friend Hal at 23:32 with the blue shirt and big hair. :D

  • I hope the physcopath elite arent watching this, because if they did, they are probably going to be up all night trying to discover technology to alter asteroids trajectories so they can nudge that sucker JUST enough to score a touchdown through that "keyhole" giving them 7 years after to build their space ships with telescopes to watch the impact from orbit.

Yes, they are probably having wild fantasies about it right now.

  • @rustyscrapper In fact, I think ill take my chances with the 1 in a million lottery, because I know how our supposed "leaders" operate. If you hear politicians fear mongering the need to have asteroid deflection technology out of no where, you KNOW it is because their masters want a guarenteed hit from this thing. Otherwise politicians would be silent on the issue unless they are paid to not be.

  • Comment removed

  • wtf, an asteroid has a pretty good chance of hitting us in 2036? Help!

  • @tyotypic the chances are several in a million, those arnt very good odds. He just mentioned that they are better odds than winning the lottery.

  • @MrGorillarook Several in a million is pretty good, considering what they are normally.

  • Lol, that first girl took ten minutes to say 5 words!

  • i love my nigga tyson,, he is the man, he is one of the coolest smart people everrrrrrrrrrrrrr. i mean i think all smart people are cool but he is the best of west, so west side brother.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson's lectures are like chocolate cake for the brain. It may not be the healthiest food, but it will surely fill you up and make you happy. :D

  • 1:08:15 :O

  • Where are the KIDS??

  • mcdonsan, joules it is and all the peer-reviewed journals (Science, Nature, NEJM, etc.) show it. took me a while to adjust my mind--years ago.

  • I understand nutrition information gives the measure of various nutrients in grams, but the energy content is still kcals. If NI was completely metric it would be in joules, right? Much love and respect to NDT, just sayin.

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson has really devoted his life to Astrophysics. He refused to be distracted by that hot Asian in front of his audience. :D

  • @dHotdogStand at 1:05:00 ?

  • The chinese chick behind him is driving me crazy! Man, I wish I was there so I could talk to her!

  • @superagnitio heck yea

  • @superagnitio So you see an Asian and immediately think "Chinese"? You racist bastard.

  • @iz2sicc Believe it or not, not all asian people look the same... maybe he can distinguish chinese from japanese... and so on.

  • @jakec916 That's mostly myth. Yes, some you can distinguish, but even then it's a best guess scenario. I'm Korean myself and it's a 50/50 guess for me when trying to discern the different Asians.

  • @superagnitio controll ur stupid emotions big dick.

  • @superagnitio Sciense chicks are hot ;)

  • Neil is awesome!

  • something to do with our mind being able to think and wonder

to do with us seeing with our eyes and them being spherical which distorts the universe..

    telescope lenses...

and what if our universe only expanded until there were enough black holes created to suck it all up back together. have another big bang and start it all over again.

a black hole might be able to think just as we are able to think.

we have not figured out what makes us wonder. have we?

    My name is Kyle White.

  • NEIL IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! im goin to bed now its 2 am. i wont lose sleep though cause this stuffs always on my mind.

  • Sir Isaac Newton was a genius, no question. But apparently, he was also a fucking asshole! Pardon my french.

  • that asian chick is a cutie

  • @tr1tan agreed; i kept looking at her instead of tyson when she was on camera haha

  • Dr Tyson should have gone into more definition with regards to Infrared light. Us human can detect Infrared light, whenever you feel the heat from a lightbulb beaming on your skin. A majority of that heat is carried the infrared light from that bulb.

  • @Dantheon interesting ,i never knew that.

  • Go back to the moon! Bring a high def camera :D

  • 0:41:45 - 0:45:55 this is the reason why we must fight against religion and by fighting against i don't mean by beating religious people but by drowning them in logic :)

  • @TheUntrueFantasy It's just a shame that they've already been drowned in childhood indoctrination beforehand and are now resistant to logic.

  • Him and Steve Wozniack could create a machine so you could ultimately "1010101001" the universe... hard...

  • race car ...niiiiiiiaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu hahaha Epic man :D i like him

  • NDGT!!!!! yeeeeee

  • Very cool Neil. You rock!

  • 1:05:34 "live youtube" on youtube. It's youtube all the way down.

  • The first question check is pretty ummm... damn ummm... cute!

  • That red shirt guy were really desperate to be answered...

  • A hour and a half well spent

  • follow this man on twitter, he's hilarious.

  • i could listen to mr. Neil forever

  • Just watch, Neil will be the first person to time travel and he will visit Newton. Finding him to be a mediocre scientist, Neil will give him all of his knowledge. I've always loved the idea that certain breakthroughs are a result of a circular paradox.

  • He is ONE of my favorite scientists but my absolute favorite is Michio Kaku.

  • Always be ready to have someone else touch the alien. Got it.

  • nnyyeeeooowww

  • He make it rain on her!

  • Tyson makes the science so sexy so romantic...He is such an inspiring person!

  • What is the answer to Life the Universe and Everything? 42

  • i just love this guy

  • Hot asian lady in pink! Awesome video, I love NDT

  • 2 aliens hated this

  • thumbs if you watched it all

  • his point to the (semi) valid question at 37mins 45seconds about the NASA budget against the US tax funding by showing a $1 bill (in his jovial but straight up style) is absolutely brilliant - he is the perfect physicists and laymens devil advocate and all round good guy.... thoroughly respectful, enlightening and funny... great video!

  • He was the keynote speaker at TAM9 this year and brought down the house.

    What a guy!

  • Colliding with that galaxy with in a few billion years, but on that later XD I know he didn't meant it like that but that was funny XD

  • "...inching its way towards the metric system..."

There is some irony in that statement.

  • @AlanCFA all hail to centimeters :P

  • @toverkleet will the language change so that instead of saying that we are inching our way towards something, we will say we are "centimetering" our way? I don't think so. But other than that and trying to get my head around Fahrenheit vs. Celsius, the metric system is clearly preferable.

  • I think the girl who asked the first question is cute and she seems to be smart. I'd ask her out if I knew who she was. She seemed nervous but who wouldn't be? You're having a conversation with Neil deGrasse Tyson about Newton. I would be moved as well.

  • @itdavi i think she had a hard time phrasing her question because Neil humiliated her by telling her not to say "uhm" and then she spent the rest to the time focusing on not saying it, so she couldn't concentrate on asking her question correctly. but yeh i agree she was cute.

  • good lord, that first girl failed so hard. it was awkwardly painful to watch her struggle through her "question".

  • "Plutos best Frienemy" ROFL

  • This guy is the Human form of Cool...I love him..cool=the smartest guy on earth

  • @maniaco200 Indeed!

  • @maniaco200 Him...and Dr. Michio Kaku.

  • "Ummm" that nerdy girl is SOOO out of this world......

  • @freedomland11 Which Girl?

  • I think people turn to religion because its easier to understand for the average man than science.

  • @gandj19 you're right, try asking a priest what the cosine of 55 degrees is, and then ask him how its useful in real life. lol at the answer

  • so if you fill out the survey you get a chance to get a chance to win drinks?

  • Lady Gaga's videos over 300,000,000 views, Science like this barely 33,000 People are stupid

  • @DanielMC75..Not stupid, just misinformed :)...

  • Sad how a little more than 33, 000 people saw this..

  • @26Jaiden Most people can only comprehend what is before their eyes. Anything telse hat requires imagination seems like Calculus for chimpanzees.

  • Um....there's a question I'm not quite sure about. When Anti-Matter mixes with Matter, does it revert into raw energy, pure light??

  • "Where's my Earth woman?"

    LoL

  • NGT is brilliant, but he's very wrong at 33:50 as he discusses the genesis of Climate Change. A consensus of Global Warming was formed in 1959 as a part of International Geophysical Year. Remember when Donald Fagen sung about it?

  • thanks for posting this, great lecture

  • Neil @ 2:36

  • I love this man.

  • @TheEthug Ditto :), his inspirerade alot of people to become astrophysicsists, inclouding myself from being , intressted to really wanna make it as a career. :D

  • Who's that fat bitch at 1:21:35 that is texting instead of listening to NGT???

  • Comment removed

  • This man is absolutely fascinating to listen to.

  • 1 think i think he is wrong with . Is not that some verry advanced aliens dont want to talk with us .....if they know about us.Maybe the reason is our society , and they know they would make more harm than good for the moment . You dont talk with a worm becouse he is incapable to have the basic knowledge . We do have the basic knowledge , even tho that alien life would be WAY to advanced for us , they would still want to share words and toughts.Becouse we do have the basics of understanding.

  • @Molhedim Your comment is exactly why I completely AGREE with Neil on this one topic; Humans are by far too arrogant of themselves to ever believe that there is a more advance species of life forms, such that they think of humans so insignificantly, that they would never bother communicating with us.

  • I had high hopes for some new Neil Tyson stories when I found this 1.5 hour lecture. Instead the audience asked him to recite his stories about Isaac Newton and his first time in the planetarium once more. Come on, most of the questions he gets here are already covered in other lectures of his. If astrophysicists are one in a million, prepare your questions and don't ask for the tenth time when Neil first got in touch with the universe.

    WE NEED MORE NEIL.

  • As much as people like Neil I truly do not think people can grasp his brilliance.

  • I enjoy listing to Tyson, but he leaves his expertise and looks foolish doing so on the BP question. No Neil, it wouldn't be easier to just collect the oil, instead of plugging the hole (oil well). The hydrocarbons, a mixture of both liquids and gas dissolved in solution, are at much higher temp and pressure than the cold ocean waters. So you've got both boiling and freezing issues to solve. Plus, the stuff begins immediately to degrade and get eaten. Astrophysics can't answer everything.

  • it's like really smart standup

  • cute Asian girl @ 1:05:00

  • @johnnameworks that asian is too hot. gonna watch some asian porn now :D

  • this video is up 9 month and has only ~30'000 views

there's so much more people that need to see this.

and those 2 people that accidentally hit the dislike button

really need to fix their mouse interface device

  • wish he was my science teacher.

  • I wonder what the worm is thinking? This is not a thought you have.

I disagree, I had that thought not long ago when I was walking in the rain baked on weed. Hello worm, what are you thinking?

It did not reply. I was sad

  • @Keffo1 If weed makes you attempt conversations with worms, you aught to stop smoking the stuff.

  • The women that asked the question "should we spend more money on NASA or experiments here on earth" got torn apart XD haha

  • 0.23.17 Should have asked if he 2 is a virgin -just 4 the fun of it! ;)

But great clip -more please... :)

  • Human species diss at the end lolol.

  • epic last word lol

  • deGrasse from deBronx is deMan.

  • great filming thanks

  • that asian chick is hawt :O

  • His final comment reminds me of the Monty Python galaxy song.

"Just pray that theres intellegent life somwhere up above.

Cos there's bugger all down here on earth."

  • I despise people who introduce someone as "the man who needs no introduction", and follow it or precede it with an introduction.

  • way to call someone out for having a speech impediment. "LOLOLOL SHE HAS A HARD TIME ASKING A QUESTION IN FRONT OF SMART PEOPLE! LET'S LAUGH AT HER BECAUSE OF ONE OF HER WORDS IS JUST FILLER BECAUSE SHE CAN'T THINK AS FAST AS US! LOLOLOLOLOLOL"

  • @OpakeArawra2 To start Sentences with "um"s is not a Speech impediment. And Most People might find it funny, because they recognise they themselves use more "um"s than advisable.

  • ...the worm is the spice. The spice is the worm...

    gg!

  • all world views aside, it would be very interesting to see this guy debate Kent Hovind!

  • @hurricaneivan117

wow I couldn't disagree more. It would be a complete waste of time for any actual scientist to debate Hovind, and would only serve to validate him. ("I once had a debate with Neil DeGrasse Tyson! That's how big of a threat I am to the establishment!" ) It would be absolutely beneath Tyson to do that-- he is an educator, not an entertainer.

  • The lawyer probably told that joke to pretend he was in the 2%.

  • @goliathlup1 thank you captain obvious

  • @kainniak1 Thats my name alright!

  • That alien/worm/human analogy was hilarious.

  • @petion2010 it is a little ironic that while he is thinking about what a worm thinks he ask "who would think about what a worm thinks"

  • If you read his book, you read it in his voice... Lolz

  • Chances are there are more than 22,746 potential viewers on this planet. This planet is too large for just having that amount of viewers. We, viewers, should send signals toward the horizon of our environment, find those other life forms and make them all watch this. I suspect there are tons of them in the Bible Belt, for starters.

  • @Krauz85 Well, was joking for effect with the titles. But really, it's 1 in 250,000 chance if it makes it into a gravitational pathway, which we'll have to wait & see (or do something about it) by 2029, to where it'll impact on 2036. And it wouldn't be an Earth destroyer, per se. Although, the ramifications post-impact could just have a slow-burn type of effect on the planet, starting with the devastation to the marine life, followed by the ecosystem, followed by the entire Earth's environment.

  • That first girl with the "umm" question is sooo freaking cute...I love nerdy girls, they are very kinky in bed!!!

  • @freedomland11 Me too. They are the best.
