Seems I found alot more last year with my ace 250...I learned from your video that maybe I should dig alot more of what I passed off as foil...seems to ring the same as gold and silver...thanks again for the video....if you ever make it to germany look me up for some detecting :-)
Hi I also have an E-trac and I live in germany. I have lots of old coins from the 1600's and one from the year 987. I liked you video but was wondering if you know an easy way to make your own pattern? I hunt mostly for gold and silver coins but sometimes I get clad. What I did was borrowed the minelab settings for coins and then edited it to find mine as well. What I found was the Minelab setting was garbage and I was missing coins. do you know another way to make a pattern? thanks
I own an etrac and thank you for the vid. To the skeptics that think that the discrimination is no better throw some iron all around on that plywood and watch the signals come through the null. Even below iron sometimes. It is possible to cherry pick silver with this detector but it comes down to the most important part of detecting, location. Don't dig zinc in curb strips and dig fe 9 to 17 anything at old homesites. If the location is super old I'll switch to 2 tone ferrous and open the patt
@etrac007 Yeah, pretty much anywhere from 12-01 to 12-39, lol. There's probably not that many huge gold rings out there, so maybe dig below zinc and lower. Still alot to dig. HH
@VAND4LL Yeah, I would say the etrac is an excellent detector for silver coins, but not for gold. If I would have been a gold digger only, I would have bought a different machine. Thanks for commenting and HH!
Well....hmmm.....I've spent the last few weeks explaining to my wife why I NEED and E-trac....and now I'm not so sure myself. I guess for added depth but if I'll be digging the same amount of trash anyway I might as well keep the Ace for a while. Great informative vid TD...thanks for posting. Oh, and the walker is my 2nd fav coin...how do I enter?
@pulltabpirate You won't dig the same amount of trash with the etrac. If you're strickly a coin hunter it's easy to use. 12-44 = copper penny or clad dime, 12-45 or 12-46 silver dime (sometimes clad dime), 12-46 to 12-47 = quarter (silver or clad), 12-47 to 12-48 = half (silver or clad), 12-36 to 12-37=zinc penny or indian. For an Indian just take a look at the depth and if it's deep and you're in the right location, it could be an Indian. The etrac blows the ace 250 out of the water.
Nice Video....However I have a buddy who hunts with me, we do mostly old cellar holes here in new england. He uses a ace 250 with the 6x9 coil and has found more fugio cents, bust large cents and colonial coins then most guys I know. all with a detector that cost around $200...Why ? Well we have good hunt spots and most of these coins are within the first 8" of soil. I use mostly tesoro's and a T2 and he does just as good as me. It comes down to how well you know your machine
Yes the etrac is a fine machine, I do not own one and trust me I would like to have one. But sometimes I feel if you have good hunting spots and know your machines capabilities you can dig some great stuff. I dug a gold pendant in a park with a tesoro cibola at 8" with a smooth strong signal.....Someday I will snag an etrac as they love finding large cents in the trashy cellar holes. Great Video thanks for sharing
@pulltabpirate I ran out of room to keep commenting, lol. Make sure you're addicted like me before you spend the money on one. I think after finding the seated and barber you probably are. What I meant about digging everything for silver and gold at the end was for jewelry. The coins are alot easier. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks... I like watching informative videos... I just got to dig more twist caps... I usually dig twist caps when I go detecting but after a half dozen or so I ignore them... Makes me wonder how many were rings... Great stuff... Keep it up and good luck with your hunts.
@realredrebel You know what though? How many 20 gram gold rings are out there? Probably not enough to waste time digging all those caps, but I do it sometimes anyways. The gold ring I dug a while ago was 12-31 and it weighed 11.7 grams of 14k. I bet if you dug 12-34 and lower you would probably be ok. Do you remember what signal you had for that big class ring you found?
Great info! I was just telling someone today.Be prepared to dig.If you could cherry pick what you wanted,we could retire from our day jobs.Don't think we will have to worry about a perfect detector any time soon? Those gum wrappers are a pain in the butt too!
@garbageguru1 Yeah, there aint no detector that tells you there's a gold ring there. You're right too! If there was I'd have a full time job. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression, the etrac is awesome! It's mainly a silver coin magnet though. Thanks Larry!
Thanks, that answers a lot of my questions. did you say you were giving away a gold ring....LOL I will be watching for the contest. Looks like a great coin.

Oh yea, if you have time please show the setup that you were using....
@tmanly25 No, lol, not a gold ring. I'll tell you what, you help me get a 1,000,000 subs and I'll give a gold ring away, lol. Ok, on the set up. I'll send you a pm in the next day or so. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@AmericanCoinHunting Thanks Dave. One thing I messed up on at the end was explaining you need to dig everything for gold and silver. I meant for the smaller silver pieces, but you already new that. The coins are the easy part!
Great video to have as a valuable resource! I love my e-trac, but getting to know it is like trying to figure out a red haired woman like my lovely wife! LOL!
@GrizzlyGroundswell You probably haven't been able to use it like me. I don't have ice for half of the year, lol. Glad you enjoyed it. You been out with your detector lately?
@TejasDigger Nope, just clutching it in the fetal position after the last winter storm hit us a few days ago! Hell, I started metal detecting my attic with my probe!
I must say, this surprised me. I figured the e-trac would show more discrimination. So, my question is this: do you find yourself digging as much trash as your did with your previous metal detectors?
@Ardenwolfe Only when digging for gold or jewelry. It's an awesome machine for coins though. It depends on what kind of mood I'm in to dig the junk, but sometimes you can hit a home run like I did on the gold ring.
It's what they been saying for years, "don't spend a lot on your equipment and dig every hit". Thanks for posting.

@109ejg Yeah, I agree for gold anyways. For deep silver coins that's a different story. Thanks for watching!

@109ejg Of course thats true for people who cant afford a better machine!
