  • nice work

  • While the operating was very competent, there's something that's just no right. I think it's the infinite focus. It's also very contrasty. I also think an often overlooked quality of film is the high dynamic range. There's a vast range between the lights and darks in film. It's mostly the tiny chips in these cameras. The canon HV series has done the best job with dynamic range yet because of the comparatively gigantic chip in it.

  • Are canon hv20s in stores?

  • im gettin this camcorder. is it good as a semi pro camcorder. i just need a large shoulder cam.

  • Thanks for replying Anthony, Ive been waiting for a response for a long time. =)

    You answered my questions, thanks!

By the way, what camera did you order?

  • i love this, is someone moving the camera for you, or did you just do that in the event pan crop in your software?

  • songname ?? :)

  • Whatever the people may say or criticize, the price doesn't matter at all whether it is a panavision cam or a cheap handheld cam. Nothing beats when it comes to creativity and passion. This clip is really good!!

  • film look? panavision :)

  • very nice!

  • much better than the 1st attempt

  • upload load this on Vimeo to get better stream capture.

  • Awesome!

Whats the name of the song?

  • eh...i think a lot of people just say "nice job" because it's widescreen and makes it look like real movie that way. is your skin really gray? haha

  • ur just trying to sound like a smart ass. stupid nerd fuck

  • Honestly, i don't think using motion picture lenses makes something look like film, Its still video, video with a depth of feild, and I don't think that video should try and look like film, this guy has made an awsom look with color corrected video, but it isn't film, and shouldn't try to look like film, but accept that it is what it is, cool video.

  • Still!!! NOBODY is answering my question! Why is "Redrock" in the tags?! It's my opinion that shallow depth of field is equally important for getting a 'film look' as 24p and color correction.. As soon as I got my Letus people started saying "damn it really looks like the movies now!" so I know that may have been the biggest thing I've done to make my video look like "the movies" . I think trying to look like film is fine, it's like in the audio world everyone tries to sound "analog"

  • Did you use any lenses or such fir this clip or is it all in camera settings?

  • well...eat your heart out Hollywood with some color correction and HD camera. Otherwise, you did a perfect job man.

    Nice.

  • what is eat your heart out?

  • someone jealous or filled with regret over someone else achievement for example, would be looked at and told to eat their heart out by a taunting victor or fan. Hollywood would be all "damn, some kids on youtube can make cine-looking films as good as we do, with simple cameras, tricks and we spend millions to get this look.

  • eat your heart out hollywood!

  • Wow that music really sets the mood... great clip! Check mine out I responded to one of your videos with it.

  • This is Panasonic NV-MD10000

    reply me please

  • omg this is so good!!!!!!!!!!! good job! too bad it's so short.

  • Great bleach bypass look and wonderful music, wheres it from sounds like james horner almost?

  • Whats the name of the song?

  • this is some brilliant look you have achieved! i really like the music for it also! could you please tell me the name of the music?

  • Making Digital footage look like film is kind of like a film-making holy grail.

Film stock is THE look to have to a movie. It is the most authentic.

It can distinguish one movie from thousands of other 'Amateur looking' movies.

  • I thought the holy grail was actually making a good film.

  • If you have a 35mm camera and possibility to edit, it can make such a big difference compared to digital video.

I much prefer the look of film, but also the ease of use with digital.

  • this one is very good...love it !

  • fantastic! :) i wish i knew how to do that.

  • Dope effects dude

  • nice piece of video ;)

I like the music to it.

Can you elaborate on your effects please

thank you n keep it up

  • what kind of color correction did yo uuse in after effects? colorista, magic bullet?

  • redrock?

  • Is that a joke? All a depth of field adapter does is allow you to use MF lenses to achieve the depth you want.

All you're seeing here is some de-saturation, cranked blacks, and a 2.55 mask. The entire thing looks the same depth, so I highly doubt an adapter was used.

  • whats a 3.55 mask? is that what gives it that film feel(speed)

  • I meant 2.35. It's the aspect ratio you get using Super 35mm or Anamorphic lenses. It's very wide and gives a classic cinema feel associated with cinemascope and such. You can fake this by throwing a mask (black bars) on top of your video. It's far batter if you shoot with this ratio in mind though.

It has nothing to do with speed. If you want to mimic that you have to find a camera that does 24p

  • Great job explaining but was it really necisary? Haha, ya aviloud WTF!!! I was draining in the DOF because it was deep! lol I crack myself up. :D

  • If it helped one kid realize he doesn't have to go broke buying a 35mm adapter to get a 'film like image' then yes.

  • TUTORIAL PLEASE!

  • again, good effort fella

  • the actor in the video is he the one who posted the video? if so, who is behind the camera doing the pan of the video, nice film look, i got to test my vegas too thanks for posting this :)

  • the camera is still, he only pans inside the software

  • ok THAT was the best film attempt of all of them... good work bro.

  • that was probably the best film look attempt in the world :D... great work dude :D

  • I have question. Is there a CAMCODER for under $500 that would have a cinematic look? (like a filter built in or a built-in effect of the 24p?

  • the canon hv20 does a great job. This was shot with a lousy panasonic md10000 camcorder. The editing gave it that look. The original shot was like any other cams

  • what software do u use

  • Hey,

what song was in this video? Thank you!

  • hey guys sorry for not replying for a long time. been pretty busy !!! no adapter was used for any of my videos though i've just purchased one which is on its way. btw i just used vegas to do everything ! just an amazing software. Btw thanks sooo dang much for your comments !

  • I would like to know. What filter/ how did you do this film look? I have Vegas Pro 8 too. Please respond A.S.A.P.

  • aside from shooting in 24p with shallow DOF you need to pay attention to lighting. DV camcorders suffer from limited tonal range (highlights mostly). You need to try to soften the contrast by using the light just after sunset, or window light, softboxes, etc. Overcast is ok, but still no good. Also, Greens and Reds with DV are usually too saturated, you will need to adjust these slightly to get the look you want.

  • I hate when people post their work and then don't bother to include the specifics like what camera they used, lenses, post production, etc. What's the point?

  • i hate when people complain and dont know when to shut the f**k up, hes going for a film look, he did plenty of testing, why should he speed feed your backside because your too lazy, go do your own tests til you get it right if your passionate about it, if not, shut up! :)

  • Ok, this guy seems to be keeping his thoughts to himself. So here is what I think he has done. Shot it with a HV20, in 24p or 60p( using pulldown to get it back to 24p).The vignette is DEFINATELY post. A 35mm lens adaptor causes a much messier vignette. Its been cropped to give it the "cinema" feel, and the grade has lots of saturation. With the right camera, all of you can achieve this look. Oh yes, dont forget most things look great with natural lighting, and 24p. Lets see some tests indoor ;)

  • thanks.....i don't know why he is keeping his thoughts to himself. why put something on youtube when you know people are going to ask about when you don't want to answer.

    thats for tips!

  • Best of 3 attempts!

  • very good, impressed

  • what camera?

  • Was this shot with a HV20?

  • Hey, just wondering what exactly you did to this? Looks great! :o)

  • looks good

    make more

  • wait... you can simulate 24p in vegas? i thought you needed magic bullet or some other plugin to do that.

  • You can record in 24p with the HV20

  • was this shot with 24 fps? shutter of 48?

  • whatis the music ???

    plz tell

  • please tell me - from where is this music? it's awsome sad music! please answer me! :)

  • why do the colors look so dull?

  • tesekkurler dostum elıne saglık

    turkey

  • you got the look down

  • what software was this?

  • very cool.

a shallow DOF would improve this greatly!

theres a vid floating about on how to make your own 35mm lens adaptor. try that out =]

  • thanks , could you pm me the link to the video ? :)

  • this shit is tiiiiight!!!

  • hahaha thanks to you and everyone else !

  • God damit give me some colours, then its gona be Hollywod.

  • Looks good, keep it up

  • Test is a success!

  • Thanks lots pal :)

  • No problem.Keep up the good work. What camera was this shot with?

  • i second the motion. what camera did you use? i am planning to buy the CANON XL2, would you recommend that. but i guess it wouldn't matter, as long as you edit this in some software, right? correct me if i'm wrong.

  • hello, i guess its based on ur budget, if you have the money go for the xl2, however i believe with vegas a consumer camcorder would give you nice results :)

  • yeah i would agree. one can do this with a consumer cam but something like a CANON XL2 has settings to make it look more film-like, such as 16:9 and 24p.

  • you can simulate those in vegas which is thing is going to save you your buck !! haha but anyway i think the xl2 is a supa cam !

  • oh, i didn't know that. but i guess that's a cool benefit with Vegas then. still, Canon XL2 has alot more features and settings. consumer cams don't have the "smooth shots" though. :-)

  • yea if i have the money i'd go for the xl2 :)

  • cool.

can you keep us up to date with some more sample clips if you have the time?

  • yea will be doing somemore soon :) glad you like to see my work !

  • thanks my friend!

  • hi thanks pal, it was shot on a panasonic md 10000en which is not too bad.
