This piece was not written by Bach, and does not translate to "Mother's love". It was written by Franz Schubert, then re-arranged by Charles Gounod, who took a melody from Bach and used it in the piece. Bach had very little to do with this, and never could have actually heard the piece. Also, it translates to "live Maria", as in "viva la revolution".

Bach (Prelude no.1 from "The Well Tempered Clavier" BWV 846) and 137 years later Gonoud wrote the melody on top of it - Schubert had absolutely nothing to do with it! Ave Maria doesn't mean "live maria" it means "Hail Mary" which is one of the most basic Catholic prayers dating back to the time of Christ:

I once saw 2 dogs fighting i my yard, the fight was hard , they moved from one place in the yard to another destroying vegetation, they ended up in the shed on the front porche and kept on fighting oblivioius to my screams . This is what i see here, some come in the wrong place and fight madly with each other and ruin the beautifu music

So I was told that I could never have another child or else I will die. Little do doctors know. Cause I got pregnant again and had a beautiful baby girl without any complications. I prayed constitantly. It's up not to us or to any doctor what our outcomes will be it. It's up to god.
I am a mother. I have no one to leave my child to when i m sick or to go to work. When she is sick I stay by her side. I get very little child support from my ex husband who refuses to take any more responsibility. For 10 years I endured abuse, psychological threats all in the name of love for my child. I ended up unhappy, terrorized and only a fraction of the mother of I could be. Being a mother is the hardest thing to do, but doing it alone is impossible. @ Neosyelk, reconsider.
My mother abandoned me in a different state a few years ago, it saddens me not to have a caring mother... Although both songs are great,I prefer this "Ave Maria" by Gounod over Schubert`s composition.This is a very touching rendition by this Orchestra.Wonderful performance!

Although both songs are great,I prefer this "Ave Maria" by Gounod over Schubert`s composition.This is a very touching rendition by this Orchestra.Wonderful performance!

bach did not write the violin melody and he never wrote an ave maria... he wrote the harp part for piano and someone else put the ave maria melody over it. I like both parts but its not by bach

I remember, as a little preschool, my mom would play this exact version for me on the CD/radio player, and I would always cry myself to sleep.

It addresses her as full of grace --says that the lord iw with her and that she is blessed among women... That she is God's holy mother... and like a real mother she prays for all of us always..... even...at the hour of our death. I will praye for you

This is the BWV 846 composed by J. S. Bach. The Ave Maria was written by composer Charles Gounod. He took the Bach music and added the words

Catholics believe salvation came through Mary insofar as she is the one who gave her "yes" to God when He asked her permission to become her child; to unite our human nature to His divine nature. He could only do that through a human mother. If you have trouble with God wanting a mother, then you need to discuss that with Him. It was His idea.

Actually this is not Bach or Schubert, this Ave Maria was written by Charles Gounod who only borrowed a prelude from bach to complete this beautiful song, then included Bach's name in the title. Bach was a Lutheran and was repulsed by the idea of "Ave Maria".
You insult a great man's religion by suggesting Bach wrote an Ave Maria maxim6032, please have the decency to change it to it's real name, "Bach Gounod Ave Maria".

@IntoTheMystical Why would Bach be repulsed by the idea of Ave Maria? He wrote the Mass in B minor for the King of Poland, and later on expanded that to included a Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei.

@jazz0685 Lutherans are a Christian religion, and Bach was a very devote Christian. Lutherans (and protestants today) believed that salvation came from God through Jesus, not Mary. Mary, they think, is just the mother of Jesus.
In Bach's time, Lutherans were horribly persecuted by the Catholic church because they did not believe as Catholics. Bach wrote much Christian music, but not an Ave Maria, his religion didn't believe Mary was devine.

@IntoTheMystical Neither does ours. You have many misconceptions about the Catholic Church. Bach being a devout Christian does not dismiss the fact that he wrote Masses. Martin Luther himself prayed his rosary frequently if not daily. If God wanted Mary to just be the mother of Jesus,He would have made St.Joseph His father. You cannot separate the Divinity of Christ from His humanity. That is a heresy. Mary is called "Theotokos:" Godbearer.Christ got His spotless humanity from a spotless virgin.
