then you may know, or even see that you and the way are one, that there is no road to be walked and that you are already there... but still the next thought comes, so once again you urge yourself to practise on, to keep trying, only to discover that the more you try, the more you fail. So you give up, only to discover that this is as much an action as trying... there is no place to run and it is impossible to stop running, this is our life and no one can deny it.
Be mindful, it makes thigns real. Then when you get better at it; try to mindful all the time. When you do not succeed and you feel guilty, be mindful of the guilt, if you may fail to do this, be mindful of your guilt, until you explode with guilt and stop attempting to be mindful, when you stop being mindful and stop trying there will be no more guilt, but mindless desire will take its place... there is no way out, you are cornered on all sides.
Although I enjoy mindfulness and am ever grateful to people like Thich Nhat Hanh who have helped me discover and explore it, there are times in my life when I DO want to rush my food because I am working on an exciting project. It's all about balance for me. Exciting projects are great too. There is a time and a place for mindfulness and a time and place for enjoying the thrill of exciting projects.
Like a clear blue mountain lake the stillness surrounds me like the water against the shore. From the mirrored stillness of the surface to the depths below peace is complete. No birds, fish or insects disrupt this lake. No wind casts ripples upon its surface.
Blue sky, mountains, the land and rocks stand as sentinels to peace, witnesses to peace.
Still lake, quiet lake, serene lake, still mind, still heart.
