@DLS95 Irish Rail couldn't care less about the Waterford area and the South East. They had threatened to close the Limerick Jn to Waterford line and closed the Waterford to Rosslare one.
@COMMUTER29000HD I know thats exactly my point they dont give a shit about anywhere else but dublin. Waterford used to have 5 lines leaving the city now we have two with one as you said being threatened. it has beeen proven that people in Waterford would use a rail service if it was given to them. but were nver going to get it now because of the modern state of the economy
Bullshit propoganda. Will result in a decade of disruption to Dublin City residents - with potential structural damage to many unique and historical buildings. Those of us living in North City where much of construction will take place will be subjected to dangerous noise, vibration and contaminated dust levels. Finally against a background of hospital closures how can 2 billion be justified on a project that will have no real benefit to anyone who lives outside of Co. Dublin.
God this idea is crap. This is gonna connect all the peopleto the unemployment offices when the second dip happens. We need local jobs not a connection between jobs 50 miles away.
@GrahamPhelan You can travel by train between Cork and Limerick. There is a Commuter service running between Limerick City and Limerick Junction connecting with the Cork/Dublin Intercity.
The line between Waterford and Cork was closed some time ago and there is an hourly bus service between Waterford and Cork. It is possible to travel between Waterford and Cork by train as there is a Commuter service running between Waterford and Limerick Junction that connects with the Cork/Dublin Intercity.
Hi All, thanks for your comments. Just some up to date news on the DART under ground for you all on irishrail.ie and on the RPA.ie website there is information regarding Integrated ticketing project.
So we will have our own Tube, like the London Underground and now the Dublin Underground (or DART Underground) Plus i hope they will invent the Dublin Travelcard that will allow us to unlimited travel on all the public transport systems in Dublin so we don't have to keep buying different tickets, I can't wait.
@charlesbrownlow They are bringing in a Smart card system in Dublin which will be exactly like the Oyster Card in London. Right now there is one card for the LUAS and another for DART and Commuter. Eventually there will be an integrated Smart Card that can be used on Bus, Luas, DART and Commuter.
Smart Cards are a pay as you go system. Just top up and every time you make a journey the cost is deducted from the credit on the card. You'll never have to buy a ticket again... just scan your card.
@derrinirl Really? That's wonderful news thank you very much for keeping
me informed. I'm sorry I took so long to answer you, I have been away for the past month and a half. But I am looking forward to this new integrated ticketing system that will be here in the future.
Just hope it gets built. Definitely will tie the existing infrastructure together. I think metro north is a waste of scarce resources though. All that is needed is a spur from the northern line near Howth junction to the airport. DART would then link the airport directly with the rail network at a fraction of the cost of the metro.
The Irish are broke, can they really pull this off?
Brianmaitland 7 months ago
@Brianmaitland Nope, Leo Varadkar (Transport Minister) cancelled it 2 weeks ago
mjakes20 6 months ago
Well kiss all that goodbye, the state can't even fix potholes in the roadway, nevermind a ongoing rail upgrade.
MrJayGibbs 10 months ago
If you don't know already the Irish Green Party KILLED this project by opting to progress a rail like to the airport!!!
Hmm, very green isn't it, lets make it even easier to fly everywhere thanks to the Green Party.
Oh, and It helps that Metro North goes through Trevor Sargent's constituency.

@ado75 I do agree they should build the line from howth junction to the airport.
We need to have some sort of train station at the airport.
Eg. Gatwick,Hetrow,Munich,Berlin,Paris. How come we dont have one and everyone else does?
DeutschBahn 1 year ago
IrishRail should rebuild the Cork to Waterford line. Currently monopolised by Bus Éireann.
