I don't believe there is a call to ban Islam that alone would be a major issue in an open society. Bad things happen in all religion (or anything human) but that does not make these structures immune from criticism. Just as we condemn the Catholic Church's handling of child abuse and hold them accountable we have to condemn much (since it is not monolithic) of Islam's view of women. It is unlikely that most of female abuse comes from Islam but it is a serious internal problem.

What it means is that a man’s duty in life is to protect and provide for a woman. Now if someone wants to interpret it as superiority go ahead. Men have been given this "status" because they're obliged to support both families - his mother/father and his wife/kids. We are not allowed to throw our parents into "old folks homes".
@nibsvkh Furthermore, Islam clearly teaches that a woman is a full-person under the law, and is the spiritual equal of a male (they just assume different roles). Women have the right to own property, operate a business and receive equal pay for equal work. Women are allowed total control of their wealth and cannot be married against their will and are allowed to keep their own name when married. Additionally, they have the right to divorce in the case of neglect or mistreatment!

3) Canada needs to rethink it's immigration policy and choose those who can FIT IN. Those who cannot fit in, should not be allowed in. I don't find that racist at all - to those who do find it racist, nobody is forcing you to come to Canada. Don't like the way things are done here, find another country to live in. The UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain etc are all Muslim countries with very HIGH HDI rankings, even ahead of Canada. You can live there too.
2) Something seriously needs to be done about Canada's immigration policy. I'm an 1st generation Canadian Muslim, my family came to Canada in the late 1970s, because of the CREDENTIALS they had not because they were SPONSORED like today. The immigrants coming today barely speak ENGLISH and know NOTHING ABOUT CANADA. I'm so sick of these retards coming here and making a mockery of the rest of us who have worked hard to make an honest living.

It's estimated 7% of women between 15-24 have experienced, or are in, an abusive relationship. It's highly unlikely the majority of women abuse comes from Islamic people.
I condemn anyone who is abusive, or has misogynistic/hateful views, towards women. But I condemn individuals, not religions.

I don't believe there is a call to ban Islam that alone would be a major issue in an open society. Bad things happen in all religion (or anything human) but that does not make these structures immune from criticism. Just as we condemn the Catholic Church's handling of child abuse and hold them accountable we have to condemn much (since it is not monolithic) of Islam's view of women. It is unlikely that most of female abuse comes from Islam but it is a serious internal problem.

I am a muslim and I know and never heard of honor killing being part of True Islam. Women are allowed total control of their wealth and cannot be married against their will and are allowed to keep their own name when married. Additionally, they have the right to divorce in the case of neglect or mistreatment!

@nibsvkh Also, Islam does not consider woman an "evil temptress", and thus does not blame woman for the "original sin". Women in Islam participate in all forms of worship that men participate in. Actually, the rights that Islam gave to women over 1400 years ago were almost unheard of in the West until the 1900s. Less than fifty years ago in England and America, a woman could not buy a house or car without the co-signature of her father or husband!

@nibsvkh Additionally, Islam gives great respect to women and their role in society --- it gives them the right to own property, marry who they want and many other rights. Also, it should be mentioned that the Prophet Muhammad's mission stopped many of the horrible practices in regards to women that were present in the society of his time. For example, the Qur'an put an end to the pagan Arab practice of killing their baby daughters when they were born.

@nibsvkh Additionally, Islam put restrictions on the unrestricted polygamy of the Arabs of the time, and put many laws in place to protect the well-being of women. Today, most of the so-called reforms in the status of women came about after the West abandoned religion for secularism. Even those in the West who claim to follow the so-called "Judaeo-Christian tradition" really follow the values of Western liberalism --- but just to a lesser degree than their more liberal countrymen.

If women in the Muslim World today don't have their rights, it is not because Islam did not give them to them. The problem is that in many places alien traditions have come to overshadow the teachings of Islam, either through ignorance or the impact of Colonization. If you have a problem with Iran and Saudi Arabia, then say SAUDI ARABIAN CULTURE or IRANIAN CULTURE!

3) Canada needs to rethink it's immigration policy and choose those who can FIT IN. Those who cannot fit in, should not be allowed in. I don't find that racist at all - to those who do find it racist, nobody is forcing you to come to Canada. Don't like the way things are done here, find another country to live in. The UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain etc are all Muslim countries with very HIGH HDI rankings, even ahead of Canada. You can live there too.

2) Something seriously needs to be done about Canada's immigration policy. I'm an 1st generation Canadian Muslim, my family came to Canada in the late 1970s, because of the CREDENTIALS they had not because they were SPONSORED like today. The immigrants coming today barely speak ENGLISH and know NOTHING ABOUT CANADA. I'm so sick of these retards coming here and making a mockery of the rest of us who have worked hard to make an honest living.

There are 2 parts to my rants. 1) How the hell is it that if one MUSLIM does something wrong, all 1 billion Muslims are painted in the same picture? This is one psychopath who killed his daughters and ex-wife - he's hiding behind "honour killing" so he can get the support of the Muslim community and somehow get away with murder. I'm so sick of people who fall for this shit and then go around bashing Islam. Over 500,000 Muslims live in Canada, how are they all to blame?

Oh no! I know that not all Muslims are like this. And this may or may not (I have not read the Quran to verify this) be part of Islam, but why do these people do these killings in the name of Islam? Why did the man say "she betrayed Islam. She had to die"? Maybe he interpreted Islam wrong? And if his interpretation of Islam was wrong, that means ANYONE is free to interpret Islam the way they want to, and do anything they want by justifying their actions because of their interpretations of Islam.

Killing is killing no matter what faith, religion or culture you follow. It is an outrage that Shafia is using his religion to justify such a heinous crime! I may not be a Muslim follower, but I know that there is nothing in the Koran that states one should kill another to honor or show respect to the religion. Just that many before him, they interpret what they want to justify their ignorance. I hope these beautiful women receive justice.
