I'm an alcoholic. It's really hard to stay sober because alcohol is socially acceptable and when you have a bunch of friends who drink and party, you either have to stop partying with them for good or give into the temptation again.
Absolutely and this really is a plague. I don't have this problem personally but I have people close to me having such problems and I can see how they struggle each and every day.
What kills me is that even if you get out of it, you will always be fragile towards the product ...
In, it's hell for everyone, addicts and families (if they don't abandon you and are willing to look the "thing" in the eye) out, you're sick for life anyways ...
I'm fortunate in that I've got my problem under control. I have one or two beers every once in a while without going any further than that. I feel like I have more control and power over it if I allow a tiny bit instead of total avoidance. I say I'm "lucky" because there used to be a time where if I got just one beer in me, I'd be moving up the ladder to binging on hard liquor in no time.

@LadyFriend710 reading what he has to say in a book wouldn't be nearly as intense because you would miss out on the way he says things, the way he speaks is so integral to the overall message. The only way I think it would work is if he had an audio book that he did the narration for himself. I've watched that show many times. I don't find my self entertained but amazed and educated! Amazed at how some people can sink so low in their lives and educated by seeing what could quite possibley happen to me if I were hooked! I don't think you're entertained so much as you are shocked at what can happen to a broken person! Think of it that way.

I would have never thought Rex was the biggest drinker in the band. I thought Dime had that honor.
Rex can never drink again. Not a drop. When he is an 80 year old man he wont be able to sip whiskey while he watches tv or play cards. Cant even have a beer at a social event, such as a wedding.
Folks, the lesson here in part 5 is to space out your drinking over a period of time. Dont do it all at once. Kill your liver over a period of time.

I've watched that show many times. I don't find my self entertained but amazed and educated! Amazed at how some people can sink so low in their lives and educated by seeing what could quite possibley happen to me if I were hooked! I don't think you're entertained so much as you are shocked at what can happen to a broken person! Think of it that way.

brkdwnxx: I can't agree more!!! Seeing all these different celebrities fuck up their lives because of drugs is proof enough for me. Luckily, Phil is getting better and is trying to educate people about how bad drugs are. What I don't get is why so many people think that doing drugs is cool... but then again I'm not a "cool" person so I wouldn't understand anyways.

What should Phil be forgiven for? If it's true what he said, he was mis quoted in an interview about 'killing those boys'. And he sure as hell was not responsible for Dimebags death.
That was some freakshow who blamed Dimebage for Pantera's break up.
Phil was a victim of his addiction, he served his time, and I respect this man for cleaning up.

Even with a changed Phil, I will always say that Vinnie should contact Phil when Vinnie wants. Trust me I'd die from a heart attack if they squashed the beef completely, but it's like getting clean. It only works when its for you. When Vinnie wants Phil around for him he will. So no, I disagree. Vinnie SHOULD NOT watch this, unless it's what he wants. We all miss Pantera, Dime, Phil, Rex, and Big Vin, but until Vinnie wants it lets just remember them in the glory days.

Thank you so much for posting all the parts to this interview. I was unable to meet Down on this current tour but finally saw them, and was purely amazed by finally seeing Phil in the flesh. This interview has continued to make my respect grow for him. I really hope to meet him someday.
